Hi Strat,

Do you have a “human readable” explanation for why you can’t do a polar orbit from Cape Canaveral? What does longitude have to do with it, as all longitude lines are great circle lines? Does it have something to do with the debris zone in the event of an aborted launch, ie Cocoa Beach?

Not at $9/hr.

If the US raised a fuss about China shooting down a satellite, it’s a bit hypocritical for them to decide to do it to one their own. Also very bad planning to begin with if it only just occured to them that even bits of the satellite could be sensitive material.

Was just letting all the parties know the facts, mam... Just the facts, mam.

Let it go, Joe... They don't want to know the facts, they just want me to ask one more question!

That's it, Cornelius... Set them both up for experimental brain surgery first thing in the morning!

hydrozine is a hypergolic substance, that means it creats it’s own o2 while in a “burning” state

Not exactly true. It doesn't generate it's own oxygen and still requires an oxidizer. We used NO4 (nitrogen tetroxide) with MMH (mono-methyl hydrazine). Earlier system used fuming red nitric acid (HNO3) as the oxidizer.

I don’t think there’s hydrazine in airbags.

Airbags use sodium azide.

How does one shoot down a satellite?

One blows it up to shoot it down...

Maybe we should let the Chinese take a shot at it. That makes everybody happy.

It’s the danger zone from a failed launch. You’d either have to fire it straight up north towards the US, or directly south over Cuba and Venezuela. At Vandenberg you can launch to the South.

Thank you, I now stand corrected. I really like more information on this kind of stuff.
