More on Obama and Babies Born Alive
Townhall ^ | January 16, 2008 | Terence Jeffrey

Posted on 02/12/2008 9:43:28 PM PST by AJFavish

Last week, I wrote that Barack Obama, as an Illinois state senator, opposed a bill to define as a "person" a fully born baby who survived an abortion. Obama opposed this bill, I wrote, even after an amendment was offered to it that mirrored language included in a virtually identical federal bill that won a 98 to zero vote in the U.S. Senate after Sen. Barbara Boxer said the language in question protected Roe v. Wade.

McCain’s schills are going to have to do better than this if they want my vote.

There has been some rumors of shenanigans with regard to missing papers when Obama was in the Illinois congress. I wonder if this is part of cleaning up the past.

It is time that we start the fight against Obama. We need to collect the stories, look through his votes, highlight his positions. He’s got a lot of “rock star” fans, so a lot of work needs to be done, and that work begins today.

I pray for the day that instead of 20 anti-McCain articles on Free Republic, there are 20 anti-Obama articles.

If you haven't already seen it, this post (<-click) attempts to explain how FDR's 10th A.-ignoring establishment of New Deal federal spending programs like Social Security have led to ongoing social unrest concerning state issues like abortion. Note that the post first references two non-abortion cases to show how renegade majority justices have essentially been ignoring the 10th A. since the days of FDR's dirty politics.

Anybody who feels inclined to comment about the above post, please do so in this thread.

I agree with you guys. I don’t get a good feeling either. And it’s not just this issue. As much as I dislike the Clintons, I think at this point I would rather have Hillary win the nomination. There’s something not quite right about Obama.

If Obama wins the nomination then this young lady could be an effective weapon against him...

Go ahead and tell her she was not a “person” when she was fighting for her life as a newborn.
Put her face and story everywhere.

“I have a real bad feeling about this guy.”

Yep.

Cult leaders tend to have that effect on the rational.

For lurking libs who want to know what FReepers think about abortion.

Abortion is not about saving women’s lives!

Studies Find Abortions Have Long-Term Effects

An Unexpected Correlation: The Legacy of Abortion

Study: Previous Abortions Linked With Pre-Term Birth and Cerebral Palsy

45,951,133

Total Abortions since 1973

------------------------------------------------------------

Why the drop after 1960? (in deaths of women from illegal abortions)

The reasons were new and better antibiotics, better surgery and the establishment of intensive care units in hospitals. This was in the face of a rising population. Between 1967 and 1970 sixteen states legalized abortion. In most it was limited, only for rape, incest and severe fetal handicap (life of mother was legal in all states). There were two big exceptions — California in 1967, and New York in 1970 allowed abortion on demand. Now look at the chart carefully.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Abortion Statistics - Decision to Have an Abortion (U.S.)

· 25.5% of women deciding to have an abortion want to postpone childbearing

· 21.3% of women cannot afford a baby

· 14.1% of women have a relationship issue or their partner does not want a child

· 12.2% of women are too young (their parents or others object to the pregnancy)

· 10.8% of women feel a child will disrupt their education or career

· 7.9% of women want no (more) children

· 3.3% of women have an abortion due to a risk to fetal health

2.8% of women have an abortion due to a risk to maternal health

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So how many women’s lives have been saved by abortion?

Only about 3% of abortions since 1972 were reported to be “due to a risk to maternal health.” A reasonable person would recognize that not all of those cases represent a lethal risk. But let’s say they did. That means that nearly 45 million fetuses were butchered to save the lives of about 1.3 million women. Or put another way; 35 babies are killed to save each woman.

Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman.

Wow, what a sorry election this has turned out to be. For the first time in my voting life, this is one I may just sit out.
