Can a Muslim be a card carrying member of the Republican party still?
Posted on 02/12/2008 8:50:54 PM PST by MadIsh32
Just wondering. 26 year old guy in VA, your typical small government conservative who fights for low taxes, privatized SS, cutting spending at all levels, secure borders, and for the GWOT, and sees the value of both the Afghan War and the Iraq War.
But I am Muslim.

Freedom of and from religion is enshrined in our constitution. There’s not a word about political parties in there, as far as I know.
To: MadIsh32
No. Sharia law is incompatible with freedom.

Absolutely. But if you are really for :
small government conservative who fights for low taxes, privatized SS, cutting spending at all levels, secure borders,
you might be getting angry at the Republican party. I agree with you on all of these, and I have certainly been getting upset lately.

Happened at CPAC last week. Just made me pause and think

If you had it within your power would you require all Women to be covered?
Do you believe that people who leave Islam should be executed?

Probably because he’s read the comments of Freepers making broad generalizations about Muslims.

Yes, but the Republican party may have left you behind, as it has left the rest of us Conservatives.

Well certainly the Republican party has failed to fulfill the mandate it had in 2004
The 2004 mandate was for everything I listed and was blown on useless things like Terry Schiavo
I am just curious to see the opinions of those if Muslims can have an impact on our party

No, no and no
And 90 percent of Muslims don’t
Just look at how few Muslim nations actually practice Sharia
I just came back from a trip to Pakistan in December. I was actually quite near to Bhutto’s assasination in Rawlpindi
What I saw was amazing. More women in blue jeans then hijabs in Pakistan. Sex and City DVD’s in video stores. Just an example

Of course, and keep in mind that there is a vast difference between rank and file Republicans and the ones who inhabit the DC Swamp.
What unites us, low taxes, low regulations, low Government involvement in our day to day lives has no religious test.

Can a Muslim be a card carrying member of the Republican party still?Yes, but that says more about the Republican Party than it does about you. I suspect a devout Muslim would have to reconcile several issues to be labeled a Conservative. Do you separate your spiritual beliefs from your political beliefs? Are you cool with non-believers?
Theocratic Islam is a very destructive force for Western Nations.

See that is the key. I actually wondered if there was any attempt to nuance that
Trust me, you meet me, you’d know A) I am an American born Muslim of Pakistani parents, and B) I loathe radical mullahs just as much as I loath liberals here in America
However the problem becomes when you hear and read this from our own party, without distinguishing between people like me and the horrible mullahs, it really starts to make someone like me think twice about who I am working with

“Probably because hes read the comments of Freepers making broad generalizations about Muslims.”
It is hard to add qualifiers to everything that is typed, the vast majority of Muslims in the world do not do the things that raise the blood pressure of folks on the board.
But it is hard to add “Radicalized” to every post on the subject at hand.

To: MadIsh32
I think I can understand that... I don’t believe the vitrolic words are directed at Muslims in general but rather extremist Muslims that wish harm to you and I because of what we believe. I can’t speak for everybody, but I know I’ve probably used the word “Muslim” as a coverall word for Islamic extremist even though I know better. I personally believe the majority of Muslims do not want to harm anybody.

And 90 percent of Christians don’t entirely support the passage of the Law of Moses. As to whether or not you can be a Repub, yes, you can. However, if I were you, I’d concern yourself with being a conservative first and a party memeber second, as the republican party seems to be going downhill.

Yes, as long as you understand and accept that the foundations of this nation are based on the Judaeo Christian faiths and that many Christians will continue to help you come to see the light of the Lord Jesus.
NO Koranic regulations/formulas/prescriptions need apply here.
Hope this helps.
