The London Daily Mail reports this week that one in four Britons don't believe Prime Minister Winston Churchill actually existed.
They suspect he is a mythical character, rather than a historical one.
Likewise, they think historical figures such as Florence Nightingale, Sir Walter Raleigh, Mahatma Gandhi and Cleopatra were also fictional personalities created for literature or films.

Those wacky Brits.
Breaking News, half the population has an IQ lower than 100!!
Forgive me if I get this quote wrong, but I believe that Mencken said that “Nobody ever lost money betting on the stupidity of the common person.”
Likewise, they think historical figures such as Florence Nightingale, Sir Walter Raleigh, Mahatma Gandhi and Cleopatra were also fictional personalities created for literature or films. On the other hand, they believe Sherlock Holmes was a real person.

England is lost. We fought, and DIED, for them in WWII for n-o-t-h-i-n-g.
In hindsight we should of let Adolph just have it and Europe.
Its refreshing to know that stupidy still exists, not only among the Brits but among the Muslims too.
Not to worry.
Sharia Law will do away with fiction.
This reminds me of when “Titanic” came out, a friend of mine took a young acquaintance to see it. While they were standing in line, they talked about the movie, and the young man said, “So this is a true story?” When told that it was, he asked, “So how does it turn out?”
The education system is partially at fault for people’s ignorance. The rest of the blame falls upon the ignorant themselves. You’d figure that there would be in most normal people a minimal interest in and awareness of the world so that such common knowledge as Churchill’s identity would have implanted itself in their heads full of mush. I was seven years old when Churchill died. I remember seeing his funeral on TV and I had some idea of who he was. I hadn’t learned about him in school. I had heard about him from my grandparents talking about the war and old times.
More like, equal to their shoe size.
Uncontrolled Islamic immigration...
A sanctioned and enforced PC-nanny-state mentality...
No guarantees of individual freedoms
Extraordinarily poor public health systems...
A "feel-good/do-good" ...yet unlearned worthless public education system...
Unwilling to enforce the common laws of public order & decency...
Their most revered "christian" cleric advocating the onset of barbaric religious "sharia" law...
Pass the popcorn...
Won't be long now...
IMHO...
Way to go public education system!!!
I'd be willing to bet the vast majority believe in alien abduction, too.
When did the Dims take over the public education system in the UK?
We learn about the equivalent figures in our history somewhere around 3rd grade. What the hell do they teach in British schools?
I’ll bet here are some things they don’t teach:
That their culture is something to be proud of.
That the people who helped establish and preserve it are heroes.
That good can come of defending your culture and your country with force of arms.

"Why, just fifty years ago, they thought a disease like your daughter's was caused by demonic possession or witchcraft. But nowadays we know that Isabelle is suffering from an imbalance of bodily humors, perhaps caused by a toad or a small dwarf living in her stomach." -- Theodoric of York
They teach soccer.
LOL ... I'm enjoying the responses to your comment....
And some lower ...
They probably teach them that feelings are more important than facts, that perceptions are more important than reality, and that it’s more important not to offend people than to be right.
The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
which explains why people can believe that recent climate changes are caused by humans
Calm down.
This was a poll of teenagers, and yes it is appalling, but is the result of 40 years of ‘trendy teaching’, which we are only now beginning to reject and go back to the older methods.
These loons can’t even see their country has been taken over by the Islamic cancer
I have English ancestry and there is so much that I love and cherish about English history and culture. That said, my ancestors were not stupid, and they were absolutely right in believing that the grass was greener over here on the other side of the pond.
