I arrived at CPAC this morning around 10:30, the first thing I noticed was several buses from out of town with young McCain supporters taking talking points from old persons.
As I milled around for nearly 2 hours, even did a segement with G.Gordon Liddy. McCain's supports roved the floor after Vice President Cheney's Speech, trying to sale McCain as "A true Conservative and a vote against McCain means a lost of appointments to the federal bench and a chance to work with open minded Democrats!" several operatives tried a number of times to sale me on this point and that McCain is the candidate that can bring all of us together, right!!!
I also noticed that several RLC and Republican groups also had tables at CPAC and were also trying to sale McCain as well.
With all this being said, I can assure you that when the media is trying to sale you on MCCain getting a warm welcome at CPAC, that the room will be filled with his 1,000-2,000 supporters he had bussed or driven in and why do you think he waited to 3pm to give his so-called speech?
Lady Astor: (to Sir Winston) If YOU were my husband, I’d poison you tea!
Sir Winston: If YOU were my wife, I’d DRINK IT!................
I’m not drinking that brand of kool-aid. Not gonna do it.
Ron Paul is supposed to speak at 4:30 - will you be there? I’d love a first hand report even if you are not a fan.
Let them go win their election without us icky right wingers. I got better things to do with my time and money then campaign for Democrat Lite.
Is he bussing in an audience to applaud him?
Curious. Don't attendees have to pay fees to get in and be registered? Or is the speech open to the public? Will people who are registered be unable to find a spot because of the shills? If so, we may be seeing CPAC allowing itself to be turned into a campaign event for a liberal. Oh well. This just proves that even organizations, explicitly conservative, can become liberal over time.
McLame at CPAC, it’s kinda uncomfortable, like having a burgler enter your home and handle all your personal stuff, kinda creepy.
Thanks for the update TBM. What was it like during the Romney speech? Didn’t get to hear it.
Heard something on FOX a minute ago. I guess Pat Robertson’s group was going to interview McCain. McCain was extremely nasty to one of Robertson’s guys but was all smiles 2 seconds later when the cameras turned on. Waiting for a print news report about it.
"*SNARL* *GRUMBLE* YOU'LL DRINK IT AND YOU'LL LIKE IT, FILTHY CONSERVATIVE!!"
That the whole problem Senator McCain. You do not work with open minded Democrats, your record is that you habitually surrender to the close minded ones.
And, he gets to bring his gang along who will cheer him on.
Never mind my last question...DUH, I got the answer. I’m a little slow today.
I hope you have a trash bag full of rotten lettuce to throw at him.
Last year McCain hated CPAC. I guess he has changed.
I will only donate money directly to the candidates, and I will send a photocopy of my check to the RNC with a note explaining why I will not donate to the RNC ever again.
From the Right, Both Acceptance and Distrust of McCain
And a FR thread from 2005:
Then have the entire audience march out as he arrives on stage!
Also, wish Smitty and the gang would have arranged to have the caged POW they use on Memorial Day to be carried in as the "speech" begins.
Thanks for the firsthand account TBM. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are nothing but McCainiacs in the crowd by the time he speeks. I suppose nobody will know the difference.
