Al Qaeda seen planning attack on U.S.

Senior al Qaeda leaders have diverted operatives from Iraq across the globe and are increasing preparations to strike the United States, senior intelligence officials told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence yesterday. They said the terrorists had plans to attack the White House as recently as 2006.

"Al Qaeda is improving the last key aspect of its ability to attack the U.S. — the identification, training and positioning of operatives for an attack in the homeland," said Michael McConnell, director of national intelligence, which oversees all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies.

"While increased security measures at home and abroad have caused al Qaeda to view the West, especially the U.S., as a harder target, we have seen an influx of new Western recruits into the tribal areas since mid-2006, " Mr. McConnell said.

Mr. McConnell revealed that al Qaeda had plans to specifically target the White House.

While I find it a ‘no brainer’ that Al Qaeda wants to attack the White House...it is still chilling to see confirmation that they did intend to do it.

Yawn. They are always planning attacks. What’s the context here, McConnell asking for more money so he heightens sense of crisis?

Might as well get it now, Bush is going to collapse the dollar again having given up any non-ridiculous claim we are going to “grow out of the deficit”

1st thought:
Remember how the pathetic left was attempting to state that Bush let 9/11 happen because of some memo that stated “Al Qaeda determined to attack the United States”?

2nd thought:
What level of attack, number of deaths, will it take for the left to have to shut their frickin’ mouths and let us fight these bastards?

Given how long the Bush administration dragged their feet (and still are dragging their feet) on a secure border), the terrorists have another 20 or 30 years of open borders.

Right now, we have a President who pays attention to such mundane matters as this. In a year, we may not. If so, we will pay with American lives, and possibly an American city. This is the reality that too many Americans won’t face because there is no answer that leaves them warm and fuzzy, and we will all pay the price.

There will be no terrorist attack on the United States as long as clinton and Obamarama have a chance to get into the White House. The terrorists know they can bribe hilary to quit the WOT for the right price. They also know that Obamarama will just quit for free. So why bother with an attack when your enemy is about to cave?

To quote Napoleon: Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

They’ve got some history now of launching attacks just a while before elections. Like Spain. The aim being to oust the incumbent party.

If there was a new attack, I don’t know if we’d all rally around the flag again or not. Likely as anything we’d all just start eating our own.

"Given how long the Bush administration dragged their feet (and still are dragging their feet) on a secure border), the terrorists have another 20 or 30 years of open borders."

Bush's border security plans draw praise, complaints

Feb 4, 2007

WASHINGTON — President Bush proposed Monday to increase spending on border security by 19 percent next year, a move hailed by one conservative critic as a step in the right direction but assailed by congressional Democrats as insufficient to shore up serious security lapses.

The president's budget proposal included nearly $500 million to hire 2,200 new Border Patrol agents and $2 billion over two years for fencing and high-tech surveillance along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The proposal also calls for beefed-up detention facilities near the border and for an expansion of a federal program to assist, train and coordinate with state and local law enforcement on immigration cases.

Bush also suggested expanding several programs that deal with immigrants far from the border.

He proposed spending $100 million to expand and fix glitches in the "E-Verify" system that allows employers to check electronically if potential employees are legally in the U.S.

True... a democratic government is most vulnerable following a transition of power. The closer to inauguration the greater the confusion... the greater the impact. Would almost be willing to bet the farm that the other shoe will drop during the summer of 2009.

“Yeah but Hillary is a major biatch who will want to prove that she’s man enough for the job.”

If Hillary is president when there’s another attack on American soil, her answer will be to blame the military and intelligence services, because of Bush’s policies. To her, shifting the blame IS the solution and the only solution; that’s what is so scary about another Clinton administration.

What's new is that Al Queda is shifting focus...the President focussed them on Iraq the last few years instead of here and weakened them.

They now know Iraq is lost and again are shifting their sights back on the US.

Even though their forces are diminished, all it takes is 4-5 smart ones to succeed in some kind of devastation here.

Seriously?

I would like Obama and Clinton to sit down with Aaron Klein for an hour or two. Klein wrote the excellent “Schmoozing with Terrorists” and is very, very clear that all the terrorists mean it when they say they want the Islamization of the US and the world. They mean it when they say they want to subjugate and/or kill the infidels. (THat would be us.)

He also said that the guilty parties are those in government and media who make apologies for the Islamicists, and cover up their statements and intentions.

Exactly. We need to understand that it is *inevitable* that there will be more attacks here in the U.S. Yes, we've improved our security measures, in some places by a great measure. We were a much softer target on 9/10. We are more vigilant than we were and we have no doubt intercepted some new schemes before they could go forward. But there's no way we can ever expect to stop them all.

Sometimes the other team scores points. It will happen. We then have to resist those that will want to line up our own defensive team and shoot them. We're still going to need them.
