About the drop in the price of gold today: Could this be a 'beat down' to let big players in on the cheap before something goes hot?? We're scanning for more "telecom breaks" which might be a precursor to things getting ugly. That could be very bad for the equities markets as well...
Worries in Israel
There's a small chance - but worth mentioning - that all hell is about to break loose in the Middle East wars. A snip from an email to me from inside Israel this morning notes that "in any case such a fast and prayer day as we are having today has not been called for since immediately before the second intifada."

I’m reading on other (lesser) sites that the cable cuts are not at 9. Very interesting.
My guess is that it’s for something that could happen but not something that’s going to happen. We’ll probably react after Iran detonates nukes in a western country. ...don’t want to hurt the imports/economy with any oil shortages before then.

It is interesting when you think of the various world entities with the ability to find, target and damage submarine cables.
My guess is that it’s not a war getting set up — there is some blackmail going on here.
Pay us $100 million or we’re going to cut some more of your undersea cables — that sort of thing. If that was what was going on, we wouldn’t hear about it.

There’s always ongoing safety preparations.
Jews are hated as much as Christians in the M.E.
Before Christmas I was reading an article of the preparations
and information safety bulletins which would become
available and/or mailed out to residents after the
New Year.
Anyone who follows the M.E. knows the rockets
keep on coming from Gaza and usually into the Sderot (sp?)
area.
Everyone should be prepared for emergencies, just like we
should be here in the USA.
