Police accused of covering for officer (MD)
The Washington Times ^ | 2-4-08

BALTIMORE (AP) — The family of a man killed in a hit-and-run accident in Harford County last week think state police have taken extraordinary steps to protect the identity of a suspect in the case because he is an Anne Arundel County police officer.

"Police are being pretty tight-lipped about their side," said attorney Rick Schmidt, speaking on behalf of the family, Mexican natives who do not speak English. "We hope they'll be forthcoming. ... At some point in time, they'll have to put their cards on the table."

The suspect's name was redacted from an accident report and removed from a daily log that contains the name of every person detained at the state police JFK Barrack in Perryville, Md., according to the Baltimore Sun.

"To protect the integrity of this case, we have redacted all of the information that could lead anybody to the naming of a possible suspect," state police spokeswoman Elena Russo said. State police say the investigation into the Jan. 28 accident is continuing and could take months to complete. At issue is who was driving the officer's vehicle, Miss Russo said.

Antonio Martinez, 28, of Baltimore, was driving northbound on I-95 when a Nissan pickup truck rear-ended his vehicle. His Ford Explorer spun out of control and flipped over a guardrail into the southbound lanes.

Two others in Mr. Martinez' car received injuries that were not life-threatening.

Witnesses told police that the Nissan's driver stopped briefly before fleeing. His truck was found at a relative's home in Cecil County.

That statement screams dirty cops. The FBI needs to be sent in.

I wonder what other illegal activities the Martinez family engaged in besides being in the country illegally.

Corrupt and self-aggrandizing cops are a terrific problem in this country. They know that as a decent law-abiding citizen you have no choice but to let them treat you as despicably as they please. If you even try to protest, you hear the inevitable, “Shut up, or I’ll hit you with a disorderly.”

Had it happen to me about three months ago. Local bully from the county sheriff’s department decided to berate me for walking my dog in a nine acre vacant park well outside of town at six in the morning without his (the dog’s — though the cop is really the one who needed it) leash. I had endured a run-in with the bum’s hysterical wife about two week’s earlier, so he decided to wave his badge and berate me for nearly 20 minutes. Accused me of things that were not even remotely true. And when I dared to protest, he reached for his club and the old “disorderly” threat.

I just took it, left, and have never been back since. Should i have reported this bully to his superiors? Sure, if I want to be pulled over every time I take my car out of the driveway.

Remember Stacy Peterson. Police mob mentality ain’t at all unusual.

The Mexican is dead, but the cop and the cops police department are in the process of making his widow a very wealthy woman.

No it was a cop, he was probably to drunk when he left the wreck to realize the tag off auto had been ripped off.

Read the article

Witnesses told police that the Nissan's driver stopped briefly before fleeing. His truck was found at a relative's home in Cecil County.

Anne Arundel County police Chief Col. James Teare confirmed that the driver was an off-duty officer. He said the 3½-year veteran was suspended from law-enforcement duties. Col. Teare, who said on the day of the accident that he was "saddened and disturbed" that an officer might have been involved, released another statement Friday saying the agency is cooperating with the investigation.

Only one person was killed and it was apparently an accident. It was illegal for the cop to leave the scene. Illegal aliens don’t particular care for immigration law or any other law for that matter. I wonder how much their arrogance and contempt for our laws contributed to the accident.

I don’t support illegal invaders, but this ONCE AGAIN is a sign of the blue wall of silence whenever one of these guys commits a crime.

So, ya think the officer knew the guy he killed was only an illegal Mexican and, maybe, thought it was OK to leave the scene?

You are wrong, 100% wrong in your assumption that we must submit to mistreatment from the man with a badge. Allow the officer to do his bit, then immediately go to the police department and ask to speak with the watch commander or the police chief. DO NOT DISCLOSE WHO YOUR ATTORNEY IS!

Fill out a fully descriptive written report, include every item where the officer mistreated you, every one of them. Of course having a witness bolsters your case. Within 24 hours your name will be known to the Mayor, the police chief and every officer on the force. You will be declared a ‘NO CONTACT’ person. This means that all contact with you must be recorded and filmed. Everyone will avoid you as if you had TB. They won’t have any desire to have their names added to the inverstigation report.

Hire an attorney who is not from the local Court District to escort you to the meeting where the police department will give you their intentions regarding your report. They may intend to give him a warning, a suspension, fire him or even arrest and charge him. Remember to keep your mouth shut. Let the attorney do the speaking, that’s what you hired him for.

I don't know what he thought, obviously. As I stated earlier, what he did was illegal, so that means I don't think leaving the scene was OK. Why is this so hard to understand?

You don’t think it’s possible that maybe Mr. Martinez violated some traffic law? Considering that they are illegal aliens and have violated numerous other laws, I would say it’s a good possibility that the illegal aliens did something to cause the officer to run into the back of their vehicle. After all, had they not violated immigration law and entered this country illegally then this accident would not of occurred.

Did the illegals cause him to run after the accident? That is, after all, the issue here.

“”To protect the integrity of this case, we have redacted all of the information that could lead anybody to the naming of a possible suspect,” state police spokeswoman Elena Russo said. State police say the investigation into the Jan. 28 accident is continuing and could take months to complete.”

In other words the suspect is a police officer whom they will quietly clear after months of phony investigation. It’s standard operating procedure whenever police commit crimes. Laws are for civilians, no laws for police.

It’s all a matter of knowing how to play the game. Follow the rules and you can make life uncomfortable for that rude officer for a long time, especially if he was on the brim of receiving a promotion.

Another fine example of why many people don’t trust, and don’t like cops. Yeah, you can count me as one of them. I’ve known some fine individual cops, but as a group...
