Bush Against Romney
TownHall.com ^ | 02/02/2008 | Robert Novak

Posted on 02/02/2008 8:42:17 AM PST by devere

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- While President George W. Bush has maintained neutrality among contenders for the Republican presidential nomination, he privately expresses to friends his exasperation with Mitt Romney's hard-line stance on immigration.

Bush is upset that Romney changed his position on the issue, compared to what it had been when he was governor of Massachusetts, at the expense of the president's immigration reform. Bush and Sen. John McCain are not close, but the president is grateful for McCain's support on Iraq and immigration.

A footnote: The president's younger brother, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, has not endorsed any presidential candidate. But he and his political allies were behind Romney's losing effort in last Tuesday's Florida primary.

Another good reason to vote for Mitt!

President Bush and his good buddy John McCain still intend to stuff an immigration amnesty down our throats.

[Bush] privately expresses to friends his exasperation with Mitt Romney's hard-line stance on immigration.

It did seem that the Bush family were favoring Romney. Many of Romney's advisers previously worked for Jeb.

Not to worry. Clinton, Obama and McCain are all open borders and amnesty for illegals.

Unbelievable. Amnesty will guarantee democRAT hegemony in the congress and the whitehouse for decades. The legal/illegals will vote democRAT even though they are the party of abortion-on-demand.

What was Bob Novak’s position on amnesty? I forget. Is he telling us this in a misguided effort to undermine Romney, or is he doing it to prop him up? Or simply because it’s true?

McCain has poked sticks in Bush’s eye repeatedly, beginning with his disgusting ploy over the Bob Jones visit in the 2000 campaign. So it says something about their fanatical dedication to illegal amnesty if the two of them are coming together now.

It may also suggest that they actually believe what Mitt is now saying about amnesty. Mitt is a businessman, and money making businessmen generally favor amnesty, because it makes them richer. But maybe Mitt really means it?

I guess the question is.. are those calling McCain McAmnesty having problems respecting the christian side of their own beliefs. I mean treating any person like garbage and like an inferior human begin is not christian.. even if they are illegal immigrants

It’s really easy for Romney and many Freepers on this board to say “Don’t come!” to Mexicans close by.. because you have had this blessing in your life perhaps many generations. It’s not an easy moral question.. there are unjust laws, just as there are unjust men.

I agree we need to enforce our borders, but don’t badmouth the 95% of illegal immigrants that are here or want to come.. they are just like you and me.

Are you freaking serious or having the effects from drinking an alcoholic beverage? Do you know that most of these illegals aren't here to work but to wreak havoc on our neighborhoods & lifestyles? MS-13 Central American gangbangers who sneak over the border? Do you think I'm going to show compassion for these people?

No country can maintain it’s national sovereignty with open borders. It is a recipe for disaster. Mexico’s immigration laws are actually much more stringent than US immigration law. And guess what? Believe it or not, Mexico actually enforces their immigration policy, unlike the US.

No, actually, I am my family obey the laws of our state and the United States.

Those favoring another immigration amnesty actually are against the rule of law in the USA. The whole issue is not about immigration, it is about the rule of law, and whether or not it will prevail. Both major parties, for differing reasons, are corrupt, and willing to destroy the rule of law to serve their own corrupt purposes.

I freely admit to speeding at times, in my country. I don't drive drunk and kill folks in someone elses country I snuck into.

You love the illegals don't you? Why no concern for Americas poor or American victims of your illegal freinds? Are you an employer?

We may be lacking sources on this, but it is credible nevertheless. I have not seen any support from the Bush clan for Romney, although perhaps Poppy is not as keen on open borders as his sons are. George W. and Jeb are rabidly pro-Mexican, pro-Latin America; the determination to grant amnesty was the most passionate part of this week’s SOTU address. GWB was set to enact amnesty in August 2001; that and globalism have been his agenda from day one.

If you want a real Republican in the pre-neocon mold and someone who can straighten up this mess, vote for Mitt Romney.

Of course it’s wrong. But it’s less evil than other things we consider legal.

It’s legal for a rich man to live in a $10 million mansion.. but why can’t the same man just have a very nice $2 million mansion and give the rest to the poor? He still has nice stuff, but he has understood the purpose of his riches are not to stuff his own mouth or his family’s mouths with pilled up riches.. it’s like “Let them eat cake”

Bush shouldn’t worry—Romney doesn’t mean it. It’s just hokum to fool primary voters into voting for him. Romney pretends he’s going to make all the illegals leave the country. There’s a better chance that the Cubs will go 162-0 this season than that that will happen.

That’s a good point, but how paid for you and your family to be where you are today? Generations of Americans did what you can’t do for yourself.. protecting the nation and making it what it is today.

So, you need to be appreciative of what you have, and be little more humble. The Illegal Immigrants situation needs a more compasionate approach, not treating them like garbage.
