Romney Appoints Hazleton Defender Kris Kobach To Advisor On Immigration
Digger's Realm ^ | February 1, 2008 | Digger

Posted on 02/01/2008 2:36:38 PM PST by 3AngelaD

After wondering for months about how serious Romney was on tackling illegal immigration and the strange endorsement of Tom Tancredo after dropping out of the race, Romney has issues the coup de grace. Mitt Romney has appointed Immigration Warrior Kris Kobach to his advisory staff. Who is Kris Kobach? Well you may remember Kris as the lead attorney in defending Hazleton, Pennsylvania's Illegal Immigration Relief Act. Kris has been a leader in the fight against illegal immigration in this country and his addition to the Romney team shows that he is deadly serious about ending illegal immigration....

After this appointment, I see no way that I cannot at least support Romney's immigration stance now. Before it was all words. As for Romney's other positions, well that's up to you to judge.

This in from The Carden Chronicles

For those that are not familiar with Professor Kobach, he is a noted Immigration expert, Professor Of Law And Head Of The Kansas Republican Party.

In 1996, Professor Kobach joined the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law (UMKC) faculty. In 2001, he was awarded a White House Fellowship serving in the office of U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. There he would serve as the Attorney General's chief adviser on immigration law and border security. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Kobach was charged with the Department of Justice's (DOJ) efforts to tighten border security and implement the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System.

Before leaving DOJ in 2003, he led the reform of the immigration court system. Professor Kobach has litigated a number of high-profile immigration lawsuits including representing the city of Hazleton, Pennsylvania. He is a Senior Counsel at the Immigration Reform Law Institute. At the Law School, he teaches Constitutional law and immigration law.

Absolutely stunned. Contrast this with McCain's disgusting appointment of Juan Hernandez as his Hispanic Outreach Director discovered a few days ago....

I have never been a huge Romney fan, but this is definitely a huge point in his favor. Kris Kobach is rock solid.

Oh but Romney is a flip flopper, RINO, satan believer, abortionist, liberal who’s more the left of Obama....blah blah blah.

Face it. People really want to see Hillary in the WH. Hunter and Thompson went no where, Romney is dying due to the constant ripping and McCain is rising.

Per McCain at the last debate, he said he likes to be known by the company he keeps (not his record). Should we apply the same to Romney?

Funny, I don’t remember Ashcroft being a staunch critique of illegal immigration. And this guy served as the Attorney General’s chief adviser on immigration law and border security? After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Kobach was charged with the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) efforts to tighten border security and implement the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System?

This is 2008. Is our border secure? Holy cow, folks, what next?

After the Dem debate about immigration, dems will crawl over glass to vote for anything or anyone who opposed illegal immigration.

The DNC just does not understand that liberal RATS actually oppose illegal immigration.

Well, it’s time for all conservatives to get on board with Romney, otherwise we are going to get Hillary. McCain, in addition to being awful, can’t win, because he will cause too many conservatives to stay home.

Romney is soon to be hailed on the FR as the next Ronald Reagen. After he spends the money and gets the walk and talk down you will see.

I hear that Romney was putting some big bucks into TV ads in Calif. and a 5 other state. I have been watching FNC all afternoon and a Huckster ad has run 4-5 times already.

I understand the importance of targeting these Super Tuesday states but Romney needs to put some ads on national networks also. I don't watch local channels at all during the day because of the programing. So why is not Romney not running ads on FNC where he has a least a chance of reaching a conservitive or two?

FYI - Kris Kobach is widely popular in KS and was elected to head the KS GOP one year ago.

He has spearheaded KS having a Primary (Caucus 2/9/08) the first one in 20 years.

This time, it appears that KS may have some say-so in the nomination process with our 33 Delegates.

Just because John is unfit to be president, it doesn’t by process of elimination mean that everyone else is.

What can we expect this guy do to, more of what he didn’t do for Ashcroft and the administration?

When he was given positions of power, he accomplished nothing.

Oh great, now he can accomplish nothing for Romney. Excellent! /s

I can certainly back Mitt now. /s

I beleive we should be kicking Lahey over this. It doesn’t seem to support the premise of this thread, unless I missed something.

Even if we did secure our northern and southern border, the allowing of 70,000 Saudi Arabains to enter the U.S. on education visas would be extremely problematic in and of itself.

Was this part of what the guy heralded above was okay with taking place?

I’m sorry I was off topic.

My thought is we can’t even get the Senators to support entering this country with Passports.

Requiring passports would go a long way toward knowing who is coming into this country. Fences are being built and that will help.

It will take more than one man/woman to secure our borders and as long as money, money does the talking it will never be done.

Again my apologizes for not staying on topic.

Don’t know much about Kobach but I have maintained all along that Romney and the Republicans need to hit this issue (immigration) hard. It is the one thing that democrats and Republicans basically agree on.

I get e-mails from dem friends a lot bemoaning illegals. I don’t think they fully understand the big divide between the two parties on this. That is,unless we nominate McCain.
