After wondering for months about how serious Romney was on tackling illegal immigration and the strange endorsement of Tom Tancredo after dropping out of the race, Romney has issues the coup de grace. Mitt Romney has appointed Immigration Warrior Kris Kobach to his advisory staff. Who is Kris Kobach? Well you may remember Kris as the lead attorney in defending Hazleton, Pennsylvania's Illegal Immigration Relief Act. Kris has been a leader in the fight against illegal immigration in this country and his addition to the Romney team shows that he is deadly serious about ending illegal immigration....
After this appointment, I see no way that I cannot at least support Romney's immigration stance now. Before it was all words. As for Romney's other positions, well that's up to you to judge.
This in from The Carden Chronicles
For those that are not familiar with Professor Kobach, he is a noted Immigration expert, Professor Of Law And Head Of The Kansas Republican Party.
In 1996, Professor Kobach joined the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law (UMKC) faculty. In 2001, he was awarded a White House Fellowship serving in the office of U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. There he would serve as the Attorney General's chief adviser on immigration law and border security. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Kobach was charged with the Department of Justice's (DOJ) efforts to tighten border security and implement the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System.
Before leaving DOJ in 2003, he led the reform of the immigration court system. Professor Kobach has litigated a number of high-profile immigration lawsuits including representing the city of Hazleton, Pennsylvania. He is a Senior Counsel at the Immigration Reform Law Institute. At the Law School, he teaches Constitutional law and immigration law.
Absolutely stunned. Contrast this with McCain's disgusting appointment of Juan Hernandez as his Hispanic Outreach Director discovered a few days ago....
Take that, Juan McCain!!!!
Don’t like Romney, but like that appointment.
Why did he wait so long?
ping
Face it. People really want to see Hillary in the WH. Hunter and Thompson went no where, Romney is dying due to the constant ripping and McCain is rising.
Thanks. It’s not proof positive what Romney would do, but it’s certainly a very hopeful sign.
Per McCain at the last debate, he said he likes to be known by the company he keeps (not his record). Should we apply the same to Romney?
L
Professor Kobach will be one of many patriotic Americans declared persona non grata at Hillary/McCain’s Casa Blanca.
This is a far cry from McCain having that open borders Mexican on his team who has basically put McCain in the position of saying to all of us “who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?”
Funny, I don’t remember Ashcroft being a staunch critique of illegal immigration. And this guy served as the Attorney General’s chief adviser on immigration law and border security? After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Kobach was charged with the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) efforts to tighten border security and implement the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System?
This is 2008. Is our border secure? Holy cow, folks, what next?
The DNC just does not understand that liberal RATS actually oppose illegal immigration.
Quite a contrast from Juan McAztlan
Well, it’s time for all conservatives to get on board with Romney, otherwise we are going to get Hillary. McCain, in addition to being awful, can’t win, because he will cause too many conservatives to stay home.
Romney will make a good president.
Yea I know John McCain hangs out with Ted Kennedy, Russ Feingold, Joe Lieberban, you are who you hang out with!
Amen.
On occasion of the funeral of Agent Aguilar, we go to the source... Local 2544 Border Patrol, Tucson. Scroll down to see what our heroes on the border have to live with and their opinions.

“Romney will make a good president.”
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
I will second that.
Money....Money changes everything... Romney is a Fraud, I don't care who he employs to give him street creed.
Romney is soon to be hailed on the FR as the next Ronald Reagen. After he spends the money and gets the walk and talk down you will see.
I am Ronald Reagen! ! ! - Mitt Romney ~ Aug 2008

Let’s just hope we don’t have to go through 4 years of hell before he takes office.
Kris Kobach just sealed the deal for me. I will be voting Romney Tuesday.
Romney is our last chance. For the first time in this campaign, I’m going to send Romney some money.
All we can do at this point is hope for a miracle on Super Tuesday now...
Excellent, sheana. I can’t wait to work the phones again; this may help the undecided CA Republicans to decide...for Romney.
I understand the importance of targeting these Super Tuesday states but Romney needs to put some ads on national networks also. I don't watch local channels at all during the day because of the programing. So why is not Romney not running ads on FNC where he has a least a chance of reaching a conservitive or two?

Read Kobach’s great analysis of legislation regarding illegal immigration here at the Heritage fFundation website:

He has spearheaded KS having a Primary (Caucus 2/9/08) the first one in 20 years.
This time, it appears that KS may have some say-so in the nomination process with our 33 Delegates.
And apply it to Huck, who is friends with the Clintons.

Mind you, this doesn’t tell us what he did in his two years on the hill...
Just because John is unfit to be president, it doesn’t by process of elimination mean that everyone else is.
What can we expect this guy do to, more of what he didn’t do for Ashcroft and the administration?
When he was given positions of power, he accomplished nothing.
Oh great, now he can accomplish nothing for Romney. Excellent! /s
I can certainly back Mitt now. /s
You forgot the barf alert. I need fair warning from now on. ;)
Forgot, Kris Kobach is also a Constitutional Lawyer who has been fighting states granting in-state tuition to children of illegals or illegals themselves.
Thank you. Please moderate the message in 35 as appropriate.
I thought you were attempting to say McCain would be worse, and while I agree, that doesn’t motivate me to support someone else other than on merit, and this appointment is less than worthless IMO.
I appreciate you following up.
I never thought I would say it, but: Way to go Mitt!!!!
See you at 1600!
This is interesting, just found it...

I’m looking for video and actual legal moves accomplished in the position... will be back.
I beleive we should be kicking Lahey over this. It doesn’t seem to support the premise of this thread, unless I missed something.
Even if we did secure our northern and southern border, the allowing of 70,000 Saudi Arabains to enter the U.S. on education visas would be extremely problematic in and of itself.
Was this part of what the guy heralded above was okay with taking place?
I have seen Huckster campaign ads airing on FNC all afternoon and now just saw a McCain ad. Where the heck is Romney?
Nope. I never said that would make me want to vote for Romney. He’s a RINO. Judge candidates by their records not their promises.
You must have been reading my mind. Thats my thought on it too.
Very good appointment and very telling in contrast with McCain’s closeness with Hernandez.
I agree. Now is the time to support Romney.
I’m sorry I was off topic.
My thought is we can’t even get the Senators to support entering this country with Passports.
Requiring passports would go a long way toward knowing who is coming into this country. Fences are being built and that will help.
It will take more than one man/woman to secure our borders and as long as money, money does the talking it will never be done.
Again my apologizes for not staying on topic.
This is awesome. Thank you, Kansas, birthplace of my paternal grandfather. Not that that is relevant, just felt like saying it.
You need to change your name to Gloomy Gus.
Special ping to question at end of post #29.
Don’t know much about Kobach but I have maintained all along that Romney and the Republicans need to hit this issue (immigration) hard. It is the one thing that democrats and Republicans basically agree on.
I get e-mails from dem friends a lot bemoaning illegals. I don’t think they fully understand the big divide between the two parties on this. That is,unless we nominate McCain.
