A bipartisan call to draft Newt Gingrich (Do You Feel a Draft?)
WND ^ | 31 Jan 2008 | Perry Atkinson and Bob Just

Posted on 01/31/2008 9:33:57 AM PST by SkyPilot

If the primary season reveals no decisive front-runner, and if conservative delegates head toward the GOP convention with the nagging feeling that our best candidate wasn't in the race, we urge them to consider acting on what so many Republicans and Reagan Democrats are thinking. Drafting Newt Gingrich is a real solution to the current leadership problem. Even as a vice presidential choice, Gingrich would solidify the ranks and reinforce the GOP's position as the party of bold ideas, but as a presidential choice he could bring about a truly needed Second Reagan Revolution.

Right, no way. Vote Romney. OR draft Hunter or Thompson. Newt is not the answer either.

Personal life choices screwed up Newt, nice guy, smart -
a waste of time talking about him running for President.

Is it too late for Dick Cheney to get in ?

Given the other choices ... I’m on board!

Newt has electability problems, and a few other minor issues — but compared to Romney or McCain, he’s Reagan reincarnated.

I like Gingrich a lot. He is our itinerant philosopher, I like watching him in action as he takes his opponents apart and makes them like it. There isn’t anyone doing what he does, he goes on the road with his philosophical opposites, compliments whatever book they’re promoting, quotes from it approvingly, and dismantles them simultaneously, all with a smile on his face.

I love it.

But no one is going to draft anyone, its McCain or Romney. If its McCain, its a train wreck, there is no happy outcome. If its Romney, its 4 years of struggle to keep him from giving away the farm. Thats the plain truth of it.

Newt has great ideas, like English the official language, etc etc but he would never get elected against the dems.

why not ask if Mc Cain thinks English should be the official language along with many other questions the media are afraid to ask or won’t ask especially Fox?

Gingrich is the perfect choice because the Democrats and press will give him fair, honest treatment which will allow him to present his ideas to the American people unfiltered or distorted.

They will allow his past, personal history to remain in the past and will portray his life story with the evenhandedness and perspective provided all candidates.

The Left understands that it's really about what's best for the country, not which side wins.

No Newt! He is a great historian and speaker, but unstable--yes that is right--unstable. Left his first wife for his second, played around with a worker on his staff, left wife 2 for #3 and last I heard was having trouble with her.

And that is the least of it. He got dazzled by the Clintons--Bill, anyway. I can't remember how many times he spoke about Bill in amazement at his charisma, and said he (newt) just couldn't help himself in the face of the Clinton charm. Given Newt's propensity for straying, maybe he just envied Bill his coterie of admiring and willing women. Kneepads, anyone?

Not only no...but HELL no.

Last year I thought it would be good to have Newt run. But after conteplating the polarization of the electorate, and not in our favor, Newt would be the worst candidate to be the front-runner.

Her Thighness would win in a laugher just on the sympathy vote.

I think he'll have to. He'll need a solid conservative to shore up the base. He should also be relatively young, but that's flexible. Someone with no baggage (rules out Newt); you want a VP to bring you votes, not cost them.

“you want a VP to bring you votes, not cost them.”

Newt as the VP will bring the conservative vote. Mcshamnesty doesn’t have that and we’re not just going to vote for him because he has an R after his name. We have to stand for something.

Some people have said put Condi Rice on as the VP. I’m just wondering if they are saying that because they are countering the Obama(black) Hillary(woman) thing. If so, it’s a ridiculous idea. We do not have to become democrats to defeat them. We defeat them with better ideas.

I would not be opposed to Condi on the ticket. However, I would have to hear what she actually believes first. I know that she is good on foreign policy. I need to hear what she believes in regards to social issues and fiscal policy.

I know I like what I hear about her views on gun control. She is totally against it and tells of the story of her father and others in Alabama patrolling the community as citizen militia with their shot guns. They could not get the police to contain or investigate crimes by the clan. She says that if they didn’t have gun rights, they could not be protected by the clan and had no help from the Jim Crow controlled sherrifs local politicians.
