The Arizona senator is 13 points ahead of his closest rival in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Monday: Thirty-nine percent of likely California Republican primary voters back McCain, while 26 percent support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
For McCain, that's a 19-point jump in the polls since the last CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey conducted in the state two weeks ago.

He's risking snapping a hip if he keeps that up.
The dude looks OLD.
“He’s risking snapping a hip if he keeps that up.
The dude looks OLD.”
He doesn’t just LOOK old, he is OLD.
I suspect CNN anything...esp their polls since they are in the tank for McAmnesty
nobody seems to have learned from the dole experience
You hit it on the head—McCain is Dole II—or Dole A.D.
Exactly! Don’t believe any CNN poll...Romney is easily within striking distance in CA...Of course, Hillary (if she’s the nominee) will very likely win CA over McCain OR Romney. But if the Obamanation is the nominee, a lot of folks will opt for Romney, IMHO.
Ah, the once great, conservative state of California loves McCain. The two M’s love McCain. (Moderates and Mexicans).
I will not vote for McCain under any circumstance. Fear not for those who hate
Hillary more than McCain, as the vote McCain loses from me will be more than countered by Rino’s, Moderates, Independents and Mexicans both legal and illegal.
If McCain is to be sent to the White House, let the above mentioned rainbow voters listed above carry him across the finish line. As for me, I won’t be apart of that bunch.
I do not believe McCain leads any longer in California.
ILLEGALS are a huge problem in CA...and people do not want a guy who is for amnesty.
He is pretty long of tooth...and he is mean spirited...
He also lies like a rug.
“CA...and people do not want a guy who is for amnesty”
Ca is swamped with legals and illegals and that, unfortunately will work in McCains favor. I wish it were not true, but it is a fact.
ok...
But illegals cannot (supposedly) vote
dole at least tried to be a conservative
Like Dole, McCain doesn't get me at all interested in voting for him.
Is our crop of candidates really that bad that people are flocking to MCCAIN? This is just depressing.
And you’re right...McCain is Bob Dole with half the charisma.
Dead people can’t vote either, but their names pop up on voter rolls a lot as well. The fact is Ca has been overrun by moderates, independents and lots of hispanics. And that is McCains voter base. Conservatives are are a big minority, like new York.
Mike Huckabee is the only conservative left.
It could be a travesty not to support him.
I don't see why you think a large hispanic population will help him. Either they will vote Democrat to protect their social programs, they are successful tax payers who don't support illegals and won't vote for him, or they are illegal and can't vote. Contrary to our reputation, there are a lot of very conservative people here, and independents can't vote in our Republican primary.
McCain, if you want to be sold out for a day on TV.
Frankly, your characterization is unfair to Dole. :)
"Obamanation" sounds like some kind of a bowel movement!
I guess McCain’s amnesty bill has made him a hit out there.
You gotta love the press. USA Today is crowing that “Florida’s primary has skated into irrelevance” - most likely due to the fact that McCain is likely to lose this one (not that you would know that by the poll that USA is touting showing McCain with the advantage.” ) Sadly, USA Today’s numbers won’t slide as badly as NY Times simply due to the fact that, if you stay in a motel/hotel, USA Today is the free paper given and people are stuck with it. Personally, I think we should be offered the NY Post or another paper but that will never happen.
California Polster: Hello, are you a likely Republican primary voter?
Si
Whom are you going to vote for?
Si
OK, let me put it this way, are you going to vote for John McCain?
Si
Thank you. Goodbye.
Is California an open or closed primary?
no surprising from such a socialist state.....
LLS
“The land of fruits and nuts”
Fertile ground for McCain.
CNN/Opinion Research Corp = “We keep asking until your answer is what we want”
Must be because the FR founder likes him so much. (s) HEHE!
I can’t stand McCain.
Apologies to any who feel I am spamming this message on campaign threads, but it is an important message on a key vote which needs to get out.
Dole also had a sense of humor and was only mean when it was funny .
“Si se puede.”
Do you think a polling company ever scratches their collective head and wonders what’s wrong with their methodology when they see people supposedly completely change their opinions in a 2-week period like this? 19 points?
CNN’s “campaign contribution” to McCain in Florida, hoping to keep up the “McCain can beat Hillary” meme for a few more hours.
ROFL! How true!
Looks like you nailed it with the hispanic vote. Fox News just said exit polls indicate 50% of hispanics voted for McCain, though they didn’t say the % of hispanics within the electorate. They also said the majority of evangelicals and conservatives are voting for Romney, so that’s an interesting development, since the media has been saying we never would. I still think if McCain takes California it won’t be by much. He just doesn’t fit us somehow. I was afraid we’d go to Rudy, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue now.
Thanks for your post to me. A couple of posters did not seem to like my opinion.
I am not for McPain and would vote for Fred in Tennessee. But he is no longer in the race.
It appears the Rockefeller wing has taken over this once Grand Old Party.
NY Post endorsed McCain (and Hussein).
