"Judge orders one of the last fur companies to pay the legal bills of protesters who assisted in putting them out of business."
(Excerpt) Read more at blog.oregonlive.com ...
Protestors defacating on the sidewalk in front of store, urinating on the windows of the business, yelling and screaming at potential customers who want to shop at the store, etc.
No wonder George H.W. Bush called Portland, Oregon - "Little Beirut"
You know why these folks protest fur and not leather?
It’s too dangerous protesting bikers.
Federal Judicial Service:
Judge, U. S. District Court, District of Oregon
Nominated by George W. Bush on May 8, 2003, to a seat vacated by Robert E. Jones; Confirmed by the Senate on September 25, 2003, and received commission on September 26, 2003.
Sounds reasonable to me. I'm sure PETA did what the business owners claimed, but the judge decided the Schumachers had no evidence that they had done it. Even idiots like PETA have a right to due process.
True, probably better for the owners to just hire MS13 to get due process.
The Judge did what everybody who claims to be for tort reform did, he made the “losers pay.”
What the Schumachers did was institute a SLAPP lawsuit, they wanted to tie up the nutjobs in court for a few years. If the protesters were doing all that they claim, the Schumachers should have sued the city and state governments for violation of their civil rights.
On one hand the Judge says you can sue someone without evidence, on the other hand he says the protesters did them wrong.
Looks like Mr. Policeman did not do his job.
I wonder if they still can sue the city and state, or if time’s up for that—frittered away in this other lawsuit; and I wonder what sort of legal advice led them down the wrong road in this case.
God point. “Loser pays” is a lot easier to support when you agree with the winner.
Ahem. That should be, “Good point.”
God Point works better for me :)
