As the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack approaches, a test of the Tribute in Light Memorial illuminates a passing cloud above lower Manhattan. The twin towers of light, made-up of 44 searchlights near Ground Zero, are meant to represent the fallen twin towers of the World Trade Center. I think they should play the 911 attacks on tv 24/7 as a constant reminder of what we face. America has forgotten.
Personally, I like the lights and think they should be a permanent part of any memorial.
Even more maddening and embarrassing and shameful is that the place remained a hole in the ground for almost five years after the attack. As soon as the debris was cleared they should have started rebuilding there bigger and better than what was there before. But we piddled and moped around for almost five years before finally deciding on what to build there.
What did anyone expect when everyone claimed Ground Zero as their own turf and a war ensued with special interests trying to create theaters, left-wing museums, graveyards and the like...
