'Straight Talk Express' takes scenic route to truth
World Net Daily ^ | January 24,2008 | Ann Coulter

Posted on 01/24/2008 6:14:21 AM PST by kindred

John McCain is Bob Dole minus the charm, conservatism and youth. Like McCain, pollsters assured us that Dole was the most "electable" Republican. Unlike McCain, Dole didn't lie all the time while claiming to engage in Straight Talk. Of course, I might lie constantly too, if I were seeking the Republican presidential nomination after enthusiastically promoting amnesty for illegal aliens, Social Security credit for illegal aliens, criminal trials for terrorists, stem-cell research on human embryos, crackpot global warming legislation and free speech-crushing campaign-finance laws. I might lie too, if I had opposed the Bush tax cuts, a marriage amendment to the Constitution, waterboarding terrorists and drilling in Alaska. And I might lie if I had called the ads of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth "dishonest and dishonorable." McCain angrily denounces the suggestion that his "comprehensive immigration reform" constituted "amnesty" – on the ludicrous grounds that it included a small fine. Even the guy who graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the U.S. Naval Academy didn't fall for this a few years ago. In 2003, McCain told the Tucson Citizen that "amnesty has to be an important part" of any immigration reform. He also rolled out the old chestnut about America's need for illegals, who do "jobs that American workers simply won't do."

“sad days for conservatives.”

You’ve got that right. Looks like it’s going to have to be Romney. I’m not too happy about that but will take just about anybody over McCain.

We should all write in, “Rush Limbaugh” since he is a true conservative. Maybe someone would get the hint.

A right in during the Rupublican primary would make McCain the nominee. McCain must be stopped in Florida!

She blew the call on Fred, but she is an illustration of the beauty of God's creation ... (and she's on her game with this disection of the McCainiac).

This is the best article I have read so far on McCain. My only criticism is she did not mention McCain’s role as the only Republican in the Keating 5.

I didn’t know McCain graduated from USNA fifth from the bottom of his class. I thought it was the bottom 5%. Oh man, he’s worse than I thought. The Academy is a tough school, it’s hard to get acceptance (especially in McCain’s day) so I’m assuming his family connections helped.

Anyway, McCain has a huge ego (that’s not good either), but he obviously doesn’t have what it takes to back up that ego - at all.

The closing Gitmo thing and bringing them to the US is beyond stupid.

I believe that we need a protest vote to bring the GOP back to conservatism.

President Ronald Reagan gave the
following remarks at a luncheon for
Alan Keyes in Baltimore, Maryland,
Oct. 26, 1988
Alan, I should be the one thanking
you, because you did such
extraordinary job in the first
seven years of our administration:
working with Jeane Kirkpatrick
the United Nations, serving
the U.S. Ambassador to the
United Nations Economic and
Social Council, defending our
country against the forces of anti-
Americanism.
I think particularly of your
work at a conference in Nairobi
where you and my daughter
Maureen worked to eliminate the
disgusting “Zionism is racism’’
resolution from that conference’s
final report and earned the
gratitude of all Americans.
And there was your performance
as my Assistant Secretary
of State for International Organization
Affairs, where you pursued
successful reforms of the United
Nations and opposed with every
ounce of strength in your body all
those who have served to foster
and legitimize state-sponsored
terrorism.
Alan, I should be thanking
– and I am – because every time
I asked you to do your best, you
did that and better. Every time
asked you to stand for America,
you stood tall, and you deserve
not only my thanks but the thanks
of every citizen of this great
country.
Ronald Reagan:
‘Alan, you stood tall’

My only criticism is she did not mention McCain’s role as the only Republican in the Keating 5.

These days, McCain gives swashbuckling speeches about the terrorists who "will follow us home." But he still opposes dripping water down their noses. He was a POW, you know – and also a member of the Keating 5 scandal, which you probably don't know, and won't – until he becomes the Republican nominee.
Pointing out the he was a member of the Keating 5 scandal (even if she didn't mention that he was the only GOP member) is good enough for me.

I may indeed support Keyes. You certainly know where he stands as a true conservative, but he does tend to flip out and does not have the temperament to be President, imho. Of course, it is a moot point, he won’t get the nomination, so I may vote for him just as a vote of protest. I guess it depends on how close it is between Romney and whomever is left. If Romney is close, I will probably vote for him and pray he will live up to his promises.

McCain graduated fifth from the bottom at the US Naval Academy and if not for the influence of his father he probably would have flunked out.

It was an excellent article. I hope my criticism was not too nitpicking. But McCain’s working with Democrats as the only Republican on the Keating 5 shows the pattern of working with Democrats on McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy.

An excellent summary of why the msm loves McKennedy. Why any Republican would vote for this Democrat sympathizer is a total mystery to me.
In the future, the fangless, clueless RNC should ban any open primaries. Why in the world would one let the enemy choose one’s captain in this war for the future of the USA?
