Favorite book in 2007: “There Is a God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind”, by Anthony Flew Comments: The extraordinary story of how a distinguished philosopher and atheist came to believe in the intelligent design of the universe and the existence of God. Once I started reading, I could not put it down.

Fear no Evil by Allison Brennan

In cyberspace, no one can hear you scream. Instead of preparing for her high school graduation, Lucy Kincaid is facing a vicious execution. Lured by an online predator, she' s destined to die horribly- live on the Internet- while hundreds of heartless viewers watch and vote on the method of her slaughter.

Her family' s only hope rests with Kate Donovan, an FBI agent who took on the same sadistic killer once before . . . and lost. Blamed for another girl' s gruesome murder, Kate' s been fighting to clear her name. But she agrees to join the hunt for Lucy- and reluctantly steps back into her worst nightmare. With time running out before the bloody webcast airs, Kate teams up with forensic psychiatrist Dillon Kincaid to get inside the head of her twisted quarry, zero in on his chamber of horrors, and reach Lucy before grim history repeats itself and another innocent' s brutal death goes hideously live. Face the fear. Speak its name. See its face.

“The Hidden Face of God: Science Reveals The Ultimate Truth” by Gerald L Schroeder. Good book but a little too complex for me. Try “There Is a God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind”, by Anthony Flew. A much easier read.

Non-Fiction: Education of a Felon by Edward Bunker. An interesting read by a career criminal. It kept my attention all the way through and answered some questions I had about the criminal mind. Bunker is an unusal character - he had a bit part in the movie Resevoir Dogs where he played Mr Blue.

Science Fiction: Earth Abides by George R. Steward was a great read as was Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series which I’m just now finishing up.

Fiction: I finally got around to reading Stephen King’s The Stand and loved it. I also have to say that I read a few of Stephen Hunter’s Earl Swagger/Bob Lee Swagger novels ie, Hot Springs, Pale Horse Coming, Havana, and The 47th Samurai. All great reads.

Repeat of a post I mad to a similar thread on 12/24/07 ...

The Reagan Diaries (Reagan) - Awesome view into the man and a behind the scenes look at the history of the 80s. You'll see firsthand how small and petty the "amiable dunce" appellation of the left is; and as you turn the pages you'll come back to events that you once considered important but have since been displaced from your thoughts.

Because They Hate (Gabriel) - Gripping first hand account of the Civil War in Lebanon from the perspective of a young Christian girl who grew up during that war. As she grew up she learned that she had only learned lies about Israel (You won't forget the ambulance story!), and now she warns the West about the Islamic menace.

The Camp of the Saints (Raspail) - Amazingly politically incorrect French novel in English translation about the impending takeover of France by refugees from India. The French debate and discuss what should be done as millions of unwashed drift toward their shores. As is the case with Rand's Atlas Shrugged, the intellectual villains on the left are very real.

Fiction “Protect and Defend” by Vince Flynn

Non Fiction “The Reagan Diaries”

I am reading “Shadow Warriors” by Ken Timmerman right now. I am only about a third of the way through though. It is absolutely fascinating and really affirms alot of the “how the hell could our govt be shooting the president in the back?” thoughts that I have had since 2003. I never had any idea what a convoluted mess of egos, stupidity and absolute anti American partisanship that are wrapped up in the foreign service and some arms of the intelligence services in our great country. Absolutely sickening is the lack of honor and duty that the folks described in this book display.

On the guilty pleasures list, I read exactly one TV/movie tie-in novel. I still had a Buffy novel ("Deep Water") that I picked up at a library sale. I had stopped with those because most of them (upwards of 90%) are garbage. However, this one was co-written by Josepha Sherman, whom I've met at science fiction conventions. She's an amusing lady and a heck of a storyteller.

It didn't suck. Didn't hate it. Nothing overly fantastic about it, though.

Non-Fiction-Nemesis,Ari provided the world with an unprecedented glimpse of the Greek shipping magnate’s orbit of dizzying wealth, twisted intrigues, and questionable mores. Not long after the book appeared, however, Onassis’s daughter Christina and his longtime business partner Yannis Georgakis hinted to Evans that he had missed the “real story”
I liked it.Had to reread it and also research parts of it.I’m still not done.
The Secret Of The Rosary. This was a reread for me.
Mother of Christ Crusade-reread.
Lives of the Saints-always reading
I do not like fiction:)

I reread the book of Galatians. A friend of mine and I completed a teaching Biblical survey Sunday school class that we had started in 2006.

My parents had purchased a collection of records covering most of the Bible recorded by conservative Biblical scholars. The speakers included C.I. Schofield, Harold Lindsell, and Donald Gray Barnhouse.

The problem was that the records were from 1954 and they were recorded at 16 2/3 RPM. Record players with that speed have not been available for some time. I bought a USB turntable from Costco, played in the Barnhouse lectures at 33 1/3 RPM, then cut the speed by half using Audacity studio software.

I would have liked to hear Barnhouse on Romans, the records were on Galations. He sure did have an interesting voice.

Shadow Warriors: The Untold Story of Traitors, Saboteurs and The Party of Surrender by Ken Timmerman. I thought so much of the book I gave it to others as Christmas gifts. From the Amazon.com website:

“Some have called it the CIA’s greatest covert operation of all time.

It is an intelligence war conducted behind the scenes, aimed at confusing, misleading, and ultimately defeating the enemy. The goal is nothing less than toppling the regime in power. A network of agents has been planted at key crossroads of power, stealing secrets, planting disinformation, and cooking intelligence. The plan involves sophisticated political sabotage operations that bring in opposition forces who can challenge the regime openly, in a way the CIA cannot. The scope is breathtaking.

Who is the target of this vast, sophisticated CIA operation? Not the mullahs in Tehran or North Korea’s power-mad Kim Jong Il; the target is America’s president, George W. Bush.

Drawing on exclusive information from senior government officials, intelligence operatives, and many others, investigative reporter Kenneth Timmerman provides the full, untold story of the sabotage that occurs behind the scenes at key government agencies like the CIA and State Department–and the profound effect it has on America’s ability to confront its most dangerous enemies. In Shadow Warriors, Timmerman brings to light the vast underground working to undercut our nation’s efforts to win the war on terror–revealing the when, where, how, and who for the first time. He also exposes the Democratic politicians who have sold out America’s national security for political gain.

In Shadow Warriors you’ll learn:

•How the CIA and State Department sabotaged the administration’s Iraq war plans from the start–sparking the insurgency in the process •How a high-level State Department official gathered aides after Bush’s reelection to insist they owed no allegiance to the president or his policies •How pre-war intelligence on Iraq was cooked–not by the Bush administration, but by its opponents •How and why the shadow warriors have leaked details of virtually every covert U.S. intelligence tool used in the war on terror •How the leaks have devastated our efforts to fight terrorism–such as when a key U.S. ally rebuffed the CIA director’s request for assistance by saying, “You Americans can’t keep secrets” •Why U.S. intelligence refused to examine important documents detailing the secret Iraqi networks that became the heart of the insurgency •How newly discovered Iraqi government documents reveal the extent of Saddam Hussein’s ties to international terrorists and the truth about his WMD arsenal

Shadow Warriors shows that George W. Bush never got the first rule of Washington: People are policy. He allowed his political enemies to run roughshod over his administration. This insider’s look at secret White House meetings, political backstabbing, and war-room summits is an eye-opening account of the mind-set that is crippling our effectiveness in Iraq and around the world.

About the Author KENNETH R. TIMMERMAN is the New York Times bestselling author of Countdown to Crisis, The French Betrayal of America, Preachers of Hate: Islam and the War on America, and Death Lobby: How the West Armed Iraq. In 2006 he was nominated of the Nobel Peace Prize for his groundbreaking reporting on Iran’s nuclear weapons program. He lives near Washington, D.C., with his family.”

Mine was one I received late in the year as my birthday present from dad - Lynne Cheney’s Blue Skies which is sort of autobiography of her growing up years in Wyoming and a biography of Dick’s life in Nebraska before coming to Wyoming and then later his life there.

It finishes basically when they go both go off to college but does mention a few things from later in their lives.

It gives me the impression that it leaves plenty of room for at least 2 further editions of their later lives.

Sci-Fi: The 4 “Halo” books by various authors, the 3 “Lost Fleet” books by an author whose last name is Campbell.

General Fiction: Absurdistan

Non-Fiction: “Radical eye for the Infidel Guy”, “The Victory of Reason”, “If Democrats had brains they would be Republicans”.
These standout the most in my mind as I sit here. (Ann Coulter is on becasue I like her humor, some people dont get her.)
