SENATOR PETE DOMENICI ENDORSES JOHN MCCAIN FOR PRESIDENT
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | January 14, 2008 | Michael Coleman, ABQ Journal/McCain press release

Posted on 01/14/2008 5:10:13 PM PST by CedarDave

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici has endorsed the candidacy of John McCain for the Republican nomination for president. Senators Domenici and McCain spoke by phone today, and Sen. Domenici issued the following statement:

"Today I am very pleased to endorse my colleague, Sen. John McCain, for the Republican nomination for president.

"My many years working with John McCain persuade me that he is the best candidate on the issues upon which I have spent most of my career -- deficit reduction, federal spending reform, a strong military, and the increased use of nuclear power for electricity generation in this time of global climate change. John McCain's leadership in the fight for the balanced budget we produced in the late 1990s was critical. His strong voice was key to producing such a balanced budget for the first time in four decades. John McCain's work on crucial water issues in the West and Southwest shows that he understands all regions of our nation and the challenges they face.

Pete's term is up next year. I've supported him over the years, but this endorsement shows its time for him to go.

its time for him to go.

And fortunately he is retiring. He has an illness, which I surely don't take any pleasure in, but, yes, it is time for him to be out of the Senate.

Who cares what the old fool thinks. These two men have been out of the mainstream for too long and the idea of McCain winning is scary. Almost as bad as Satan.
It should concern you when the media is pushing McCain so hard.

Oh, Gee, thanks “Little Pete!” I remember the moving story of your illegal nanny being hauled away, with Lil Pete crying in the distance. Why do all Republicans drift left as they age, but no democrats drift right?

Oh it does, believe me. They have decided that they will choose the candidates and determine the outcome. Pretty amazing.

Sorry to see this. Dominici was on GHWB’s short list for VP, and would have been a far better choice than Quayle. But that was two decades ago, and Pete drifted to the left as he aged.

You beat me to it. Goldwater became something of a media darling in his later years, as he started spouting liberal nonsense.

No, but I'm convinced his DC staff persuaded him to take this action, especially given the contentious relationship McCain and Domenici have had over the years.

“Maybe they’ll start up that lettuce farm that Johnny has always dreamed of, but McLoon certainly won’t be President!”

If FDT does poorly in SC, drops (at some point), and throws his support behind McCain, do you think that the Fredheads will follow in hopes of a Thompson vice presidency? I’m not sure how many have said they hate McCain and/or how much it would take them to flip flop on a McCain presidency.

I’ve already seen many on this site who have already openly stated they would support McLoon. If either of them were the nominee, you can bet that they will bring along their fellow CFR pal for the ride.
