'Islamic Jesus' hits Iranian movie screens

I don't think I can post an excerpt here, but go to the link and read the story. Obviously, the movie's director doesn't have a clue who the Christian Jesus Christ is! And he's trying to portray Him as someone that Christianity and Islam have in common??

I don't think so.

Jesus is a prophet in the Quran and Muslims respect his as such. They don’t consider him the Savior, nor is he considered as important as Muhammad who was their final prophet.

It’s the same article, but at Breitbart it said absolutely NO reproduction, etc. of the story. Don’t want to cause JimRob any copyright problems! ;-)

“A director who shares the ideas of Iran’s hardline president has produced what he says is the first film giving an Islamic view of Jesus Christ, in a bid to show the “common ground” between Muslims and Christians.

'Islamic Jesus' hits Iranian movie screens

TEHRAN, Jan 13, 2008 (AFP) - A director who shares the ideas of Iran's hardline president has produced what he says is the first film giving an Islamic view of Jesus Christ, in a bid to show the 'common ground' between Muslims and Christians.

Nader Talebzadeh sees his movie, 'Jesus, the Spirit of God,' as an Islamic answer to Western productions like Mel Gibson's 2004 blockbuster 'The Passion of the Christ,' which he praised as admirable but quite simply 'wrong'.

'Gibson's film is a very good film. I mean that it is a well-crafted movie but the story is wrong -- it was not like that,' he said, referring to two key differences: Islam sees Jesus as a prophet, not the son of God, and does not believe he was crucified.

Talebzadeh said he even went to Gibson's mansion in Malibu, California, to show him his film. 'But it was Sunday and the security at the gate received the film and the brochure and promised to deliver it,' though the Iranian never heard back.

Even in Iran, 'Jesus, The Spirit of God' had a low-key reception, playing to moderate audiences in five Tehran cinemas during the holy month of Ramadan, in October.

The film, funded by state broadcasting, faded off the billboards but is far from dead, about to be recycled in a major 20 episode spin-off to be broadcast over state-run national television this year.

Talebzadeh insists it aims to bridge differences between Christianity and Islam, despite the stark divergence from Christian doctrine about Christ's final hours on earth.

'It is fascinating for Christians to know that Islam gives such devotion to and has so much knowledge about Jesus,' Talebzadeh told AFP.

'By making this film I wanted to make a bridge between Christianity and Islam, to open the door for dialogue since there is much common ground between Islam and Christianity,' he said.

The director is also keen to emphasise the links between Jesus and one of the most important figures in Shiite Islam, the Imam Mahdi, said to have disappeared 12 centuries ago but whose 'return' to earth has been a key tenet of the Ahmadinejad presidency.

Talebzadeh made his name making documentaries about Iran's 1980-1988 war against Iraq, an important genre in the country's post-revolutionary cinema.

But such weighty themes, and his latest film on Jesus, compete with domestic gangster thrillers and sugary boy-meets-girl love stories, the movies that continue to draw the biggest audiences in the Islamic Republic.

The bulk of 'Jesus, the Spirit of God', which won an award at the 2007 Religion Today Film Festival in Italy, faithfully follows the traditional tale of Jesus as recounted in the New Testament Gospels, a narrative reproduced in the Koran and accepted by Muslims.

But in Talebzadeh's movie, God saves Jesus, depicted as a fair-complexioned man with long hair and a beard, from crucifixion and takes him straight to heaven.

'It is frankly said in the Koran that the person who was crucified was not Jesus' but Judas, one of the 12 Apostles and the one the Bible holds betrayed Jesus to the Romans, he said. In his film, it is Judas who is crucified.

Islam sees Jesus as one of five great prophets -- others being Noah, Moses and Abraham -- sent to earth to announce the coming of Mohammed, the final prophet who spread the religion of Islam. It respects Jesus' followers as 'people of the book'.

Iran has tens of thousands of its own Christians who are guaranteed religious freedoms under the constitution -- mainly Armenians, though their numbers have fallen sharply since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Every Christmas, Ahmadinejad and other officials lose no time in sending greetings to Christian leaders including the pope on what they describe as the 'auspicious birthday of Jesus Christ, Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH).'

In this year's message, Ahmadinejad said that 'peace, friendship and justice will be attained wherever the guidelines of Jesus Christ (PBUH) are realised in the world.'

Shiite Muslims, the majority in Iran, believe Jesus will accompany the Imam Mahdi when he reappears in a future apocalypse to save the world.

And Talebzadeh said the TV version of his film will further explore the links between Jesus and the Mahdi -- whose return Ahmadinejad has said his government, which came to power in 2005, is working to hasten.

Shiites believe the Mahdi's reappearance will usher in a new era of peace and harmony.

'We Muslims pray for the 'Return' (of Imam Mahdi) and Jesus is part of the return and the end of time,' Talebzadeh said.

'Should we, as artists, stand idle until that time? Don't we have to make an effort?'

They can't logically revere him as a prophet. He stated that He was the Messiah (Matthew 15:16-17, for instance). He was either a blasphemer or He is who He says He is.

Dr. Ergun Caner, who is now the president of the Liberty Theological Seminary (started by Jerry Falwell), converted from islam primarily on the strength of that argument.

Let’s compare Christianity to Islam -

Christianity

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” (John 8:1-11)

Islam

There came to him (the Holy Prophet) a woman from Gamid and said: ‘Allah’s Messenger, I have committed adultery, so purify me.’ He (the Holy Prophet) turned her away. On the following day she said: ‘Allah’s messenger, why do you turn me away? ... By Allah I have become pregnant.’ He said ‘Well, if you insist upon it, then go away until you give birth.’

When she was delivered she came with the child (wrapped) in a rag, and said ‘Here is the child whom I have given birth to.’ He said ‘Go away and suckle him until you wean him.’

When she had weaned him, she came to him (the Holy Prophet) with the child who was holding a piece of bread in his hand. She said ‘Allah’s Apostle, here is he as I have weaned him and he eats food.’

He (the Holy Prophet) entrusted the child to one of the Muslims and then pronounced punishment. And she was put in a ditch up to her chest and he commanded people and they stoned her. (Sahih Muslim 4206)

Jesus

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions. (Mark 12:28-34)

Mohammed

Allah’s Apostle was asked, “What is the best deed?” He replied, “To believe in Allah and His Apostle (Muhammad). The questioner then asked, “What is the next in goodness? He replied, “To participate in Jihad in Allah’s Cause.” The questioner again asked, “What is the next (in goodness)?” He replied, “To perform Hajj Mubrur.”

“Believers! - wage war against such of the infidels as are your neighbors, and let them find you rigorous; and know that God is with those who fear him.” (Koran 9:124)

What is Islam based on?

Mohammed went into “trances” and fits (like epileptic fits) when he was given the “word of God” and would shout out what he was told. These would be written down by his followers. This is the makeup of the Koran.
When Mohammed was just walking and talking and acting like “normal”, his words and deeds were written down by his followers and this went into the Hadith. Now, acting “normal” for Mohammed was taking 12+ wives (including a 6 year old when he was 51), taking slaves (including sex slaves), executing infidels, conducting raids for treasure, etc.

Now, this is where it gets complicated.

A large part of the words he spoke in trances were “taken back” by Mohammed. He determined them to be the work of the devil (thus they are called the “Satanic Verses” and these are the same verses that Mr. Salman Rushdie got in trouble for writing about).

Now, how Mohammed determined which verses were from God and which were from Satan I do not know.

Also, there were literally dozens of widely different versions of the Hadith floating around right after Mohammends death and there are large amounts of Hadith that are disputed. Now, even Mohammed could not remember what he was told by God and forgot it (those are his words as written in the Hadith) so I do not know how the powers in charge decided which was the correct version.

Also according to the Hadith, Mohammed turned people into monkeys, you can determine a child’s sex depending on whether the male or female has an orgasm first (that advice came directly from the Angel Gabriel), dogs are evil and should be killed, that the devil lives in your nose at night (and how to get rid of him in the morning), chess is forbidden, muslims have one intestine while infidels have seven, don’t pray looking up or your eyes will be snatched away, that one wing of a fly is poison but the other is the cure, that drinking camel urine is good for you and I could go on.

And that Mohammed himself didn’t even know if he was going to heaven. If even Mohammed doesn’t know, what chance does the average muslim have?

And for some non-PC info, Mohammed was described as a white man.

Now, if you can bear it, to compare to the Gospels of New Testament.

Jesus was someone who lived a very humble life and was killed for basically saying he was a King and Son of God (blasphemy) by the powers in charge (Roman and Jewish).

The government wanted Jesus destroyed and wanted his growing movement destroyed (as it threatened their power). If, after 3 days, the followers of Jesus proclaimed he has risen from the dead, (just as he predicted), and is truly our Savior, the High Officials would have wanted to destroy such a “myth.” They could have easily done this by producing the dead body of Jesus and saying “Your Messiah is still dead and so is your movement” or producing many eye witnesses of the dead Jesus. But they couldn’t.

The letters that make up the core of the New Testament were written by the eye witnesses of the events of Jesus or by their associates. They were written in just one generation when many other eye witnesses were still alive. They were written without collusion from other Apostles.

Even if any of the Apostles wanted to “add” to the “myth” of Jesus, they would have done so in a very disjointed and easily detectable fashion. Yet, the main Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) that describe the life of Jesus are amazingly in harmony with one another and the small differences are consistent with what we would see today if four people witnessed a major event and wrote about the event apart from each other.

The Gospels can be traced back to their sources and are basically unchanged from their originals.

The Bible (especially the New Testament) is the most investigated historical document in the history of the world. It has been investigated by scientists, philosophers and archeologists using technology undreamed of when the Bible was written. It is been desperately tried to be “disproved” for over 2000 years, yet, the Bible still stands as the truth.

The stories of Jesus still make sense to us today. It may be because they are true, it may be because they are based in love or it may be because they were written to tell the people of the Word of God.

They aren't quoting the Bible. They are quoting the Quran. They aren't claiming the essential part of Christianity is also a part of Islam. They are instead claiming that Jesus is only an Islamic prophet.

the Christian Jesus Chris

The slippery slope has claimed another victim. There is no Christian Jesus, only the historical figure who was and still is the son of God. End of story. We don't need to apologize for the truth about Jesus to those who are either too confused or too ignorant to understand

And for some non-PC info, Mohammed was described as a white man.

Now, if you can bear it, to compare to the Gospels of New Testament.

Jesus was born into a poor Jewish family in an area of the world under the occupation of the Roman Empire. He would grow up to be a carpenter for the majority of his life, living quietly and humbly in Nazareth. However, for the last three years of his life he would travel throughout Palestine teaching, healing, and challenging the conventional Jewish order. Jesus was killed for basically saying he was a King and Son of God (blasphemy) by the powers in charge (Roman and Jewish).

So fundamentally, without education, without an army, and without money, this Jesus of Nazareth would forever change the course of human history.

The letters that make up the core of the New Testament were written by the eye witnesses of the events of Jesus or by their associates. They were written in just one generation when many other eye witnesses were still alive. They were written without collusion from other Apostles. PS - There are many topics that could be compared - The stories of a adulterous woman is found in both the Bible and Koran. They seem to sum up each religion.

That’s how you show the "common ground" - by insisting on irreconcilable differences and knocking off the very foundation of Christianity!

Was Jesus the Messiah?
Jews: No.
Christians: Yes.
Muslims: Yes.

Is the New Testament holy?
Jews: No.
Christians: Yes.
Muslims: Yes.

Muslims view the Qur'an as a way for God to settle differences between Judaism and Christianity, which exist because the texts/interpretations of texts for those two religions are imperfect. So, for example, Jesus is the Messiah (finding in favor of Christians), but not the Son of God because God is too grand and infinite to be put into a mortal vessel, as a child or whatever (finding in favor of Jews).

"...you can determine a child’s sex depending on whether the male or female has an orgasm first (that advice came directly from the Angel Gabriel), ... that the devil lives in your nose at night (and how to get rid of him in the morning)

That's OK, we have Boccacio's Decameron (sort of a bawdy Italian answer to the Canterbury Tales).

Calandrino believes he has gotten pregnant via sex in the female superior position (IX, 3):

Calandrino ran on in the same plaintive strain: "Alas! woe's me! What shall I do? How shall I be delivered of this child? What passage can it find? Ah! I see only too plainly that the lasciviousness of this wife of mine has been the death of me: God make her as wretched as I would fain be happy! Were I as well as I am not, I would get me up and thrash her, till I left not a whole bone in her body, albeit it does but serve me right for letting her get the upper place; but if I do win through this, she shall never have it again; verily she might pine to death for it, but she should not have it."

And there are instructions on how to "put the devil back into hell" (III, 10):

Alibech becomes a recluse, and after being taught by the monk, Rustico, to put the devil back in Hell, she is eventually taken away to become the wife of Neerbal.

The difference, of course, is that even at the time, Boccacio was taken as humorous.

Cheers! Cheers!

He stated that He was the Messiah (Matthew 15:16-17, for instance). He was either a blasphemer or He is who He says He is.

I suspect that the Islamic response is that Matthew lied and Jesus never really said that.

The difference, of course, is that even at the time, Boccacio was taken as humorous.

And reasoning Christians are not seeking the Word of God in Boccacio’s writings.

The koran, itself, says to obey the Gospel.

lol, must’ve been some conspiracy, since Luke and John have the same tet-a-tet in their respective texts.

Then totally disagrees with the Gospel’s foundation viewpoints! >:-( No, thank you. I’ll stick with Jesus Christ being the Only Begotten Son of God, not Moohammed’s best bud.

The Jesus Christ worshiped by Christians is an historical figure. Saying ‘worshiped by christians’ as an identifier makes no sense. What other kind of Jesus is there?

Is the New Testament holy? Jews: No. Christians: Yes. Muslims: Yes.

Where did this come from and how can you take it seriously since the resurrection of Christ is part and parcel of the 'holy' new testament...

Since christ wasn't the son of god and was never crucified according to the muzzies, how can they say the new testament is holy? This is part of their lie and deceive campaign sanctioned and exonerated by their Koran.

.the Islamic Jesus

There is no Islamic Jesus even though they claim so. Why use their lexicon to defend their fallacies?

Makes it awful hard to fight against an enemy if you pretend the enemy isn’t there, don’t you think? Hard to compare the two if you only have one to compare—

Absolutely. A false Jesus, like “Tashlan” in the last book of the Narnia series, C.S. Lewis’ “The Final Battle.”

Or: like in Revelation.

Scary, actually.

However, there are quite a few Muslims who have dreamed about ‘Isa’:

There is hope yet for many Muslims.

The texts can be holy, but be imperfect, because they were written by men. That’s why the Koran was provided to the world, according to Muslims— to resolve the imperfections.

The Muslim claims about the Old and New Testaments are similar to Christian claims about the Old Testament (Christians don’t abide by it and take the views in the NT when in conflict with the NT).

I think it’s all crap, but that’s how they see it.

Great link, GAB-1955. Looks like a great link for seeking Muslims to find and relate to.

And listen up, any Freepers who instinctively regard Muslims with disdain: God is indeed using amazing ways - including dreams and visions - to draw Muslims to himself. I have a number of friends involved in long-term ministry in such countries who have been seeing this for a LONG time now. It won’t show up on the MSM, and it involves great risk to those who come to put their faith in Isa al Masih (Jesus the Messiah).

The Q’ran does have fundamentally divergent teachings about Jesus (A bit of history: the only “Christian testimony” in Mohammed’s neck of the woods at that time were basically exiled heretics who believed the Trinity consisted of The Father, the Son...and Mary. So don’t be too suprised that M got things wrong...) .. BUT there are some themes that serve as a starting point on the road to faith for many, for instance where it tells Muslims to read and believe the Injil (the Gospels).

And that is just the most important reason why Muslims and Christians can have nothing in common, religiously.

'It is fascinating for Christians to know that Islam gives such devotion to and has so much knowledge about Jesus,' Talebzadeh told AFP.

I would submit Satan knows Jesus better than most Christians, and definitely better than any Muslims.

I hope that was sarcasm.
Q1.Kill you for naming a teddy bear Mohamed?
1.Christians No
2.Jews No
3Muslims Yes.
Q2.Kill you for thinking Jesus is the son of God?
1.Christians No
2.Jews No
3.Muslims Yes
Q3.Kill women for getting raped?
1.Christians No
2.Jews No
3.Muslims Yes
Q4.Reaching limit and capable of biblical destruction to enemies?

3.Muslims No

You obviously forgot that 1.the first Christians were converted Jews. 2.The Kortrash says its the duty of all Muslims to destroy or subjugate (enslave) all non believers.
3.Mohamed didn’t have enough material so he borrowed the same God of Abraham of the Jews.

There isn’t much common ground between Islam and Christianity. Although the Koran recognizes Jesus as a prophet, it repeatedly denies that he was crucified or that he is the Son of God. What is worse, though, is that the Koran repeatedly demonizes Christians as “liars” and “evildoers” because they believe in the divinity of Christ. It repeatedly states that the “people of the Book,” Christians and Jews, are “unbelievers” because they “changed” the word of God and reject Islam. It states many times that all “unbelievers” are going to Hell and that Muslims should not be friends with them. Indeed, Muslims have a duty to convert or kill them.

The Koran is so full of hatred for Christians, I don’t see how any reconciliation between Muslims and Christians is possible if Muslims want to remain faithful to their religion.

You are right, and it goes directly to the core. God resurrected Jesus from death to demonstrate God’s power to give life after death. Paul wrote that if Jesus was not resurrected, people have no hope for life beyond death.

To deny Jesus being Messiah, to invalidate Trinity and resurrection is to deny Christianity as a faith. Not much of a common ground seeking, if you ask me.

"Obviously, the movie's director doesn't have a clue who the Christian Jesus Christ is!"

Sadly, the same can be said of many who claim to be Christians.
