TEHRAN, Iran - Iran on Wednesday called video and audio released by the Pentagon showing Iranian Revolutionary Guards boats confronting U.S. warships in the Strait of Hormuz "fabricated," a state-run television station reported.
"The footage released by the U.S. Navy was compiled using file pictures and the audio has been fabricated," the English-language channel Press TV quoted an official in the Revolutionary Guards as saying.
The report did not give the name of the Revolutionary Guard figure and did not offer more details about how the official knew the footage was "fabricated."

If the video was fabricated, then surely they won’t complain if we blow the boats out of the water on our next fabricated video.
LOL -— exactly!!!
We should have ensured that proper identification is possible by providing pieces of uniforms, boats, bodies etc.
The Commander of these ships had to have known Iran would claim it’s fake so he should have opened up on their asses and bring back little pieces of boat to prove it.
Isn’t that precious. We’ll just have to put some fake bombs up those fake boats’ *ss the next time. We’ll blow their fake *sses up and then pick up the fake parts and bury them with real pig fat.
You beat me to the punch! :)
That’s along the lines of what I was thinking.
But - Had we shot, could you IMAGINE what MSNBC would be writing?!
..............and bring back little pieces of boat to prove it.
Exactly my thoughts. If this happens again we are going to need proof.
Yep, open up on those “fake” boats next time they’re within 500 yards. 200 yards is way too close.
Shades of Baghdad Bob.
Exactly my thoughts. If this happens again we are going to need proof.
I was thinking the heads of the recoverable bodies strung up on the signal halyard of the force lead ship.
How do you tell if an Arab is lying......?
How incompetent is the Iranian Navy that this is their idea of identifying passing ships in international waters. Radar shows them from shore and a radio transmission identifies who they are. Failing that, US flags are flying all over these ships and an idiot with a set of “spectacles” from a 1/2 mile away can identify who they are.
It doesn’t take 20 minutes to identify the US Navy. Even if the antiquated scrap crap equipment of the Iranian Guard was not functioning, a nincompoop could have stayed farther away and shown less aggression to identify the ships.
Consequently, the Iranian boats looked to be evading expected fire in the video. The “fake” video get a good enough shot that you can certainly identify the boats.
It also doesn’t take a brain surgeon to watch the video and understand the intent of the fast boats. These people calling them fake must have been the folks on the boats.
I don't understand why the officers in charge let this situation develop and continue without responding with defensive fire.
Don’t we do warning shots anymore?
Gotta say I miss him. A true source of comedy.
Because he didn’t want a call from President Obama in 2/09 telling him he was an evil war monger and needed to be replaced so the world liked us more.
It’s the kinder, gentler military. Firing a warning shot could cause hearing damage.
Yep. Their story about “identifying” them is pure baloney. You don’t have to do that at 600 feet. Even Iran owns a pair of binoculars.
IMHO, they wanted to see how close several boats could get to swarm a U.S. warship. After the USS Cole, two hits on one side or one each on opposite sides could sink the ship.
When they’re 600 feet out, at 60mph, if they can go that fast (they looked like they were moving pretty fast to me) they can cover 600 feet in less than 7 seconds.
...or cause our peaceful foes to soil themselves, thereby spreading disease and contributing to Man Made Global Warming.
Good point, I forgot about our Happy Happy Joy Joy Fun Loving Military image making efforts of late.
Depends upon the ROE, I’d imagine. Hopefully, those have been modified since yesterday.
Two birds are down from a midair collision. All-the-while, Iranian small boats were harassing our surface combatants. Must we believe these are two separate incidents? This leaves me puzzled and skeptical.
Persian Gulf is has innumerable potential hostiles able and perhaps willing to down F/A/E birds.
Once down, aircrew and platforms are highly desirable items. Iranians would like to capture these and go into harms way to do it.
It seems to me like the headlines are well placed, fragmented and a superficial veneer disguising some hot stuff.
Which reminds me, What IS Dan Rather doing these days? < /Ha! >
I thought the sound of the Iranian guy’s voice was strange. Seemed like it was cut and pasted in. Who talks like that anyway?
I think the video itseld was real and not faked.
It may have come in on a radio frequency and been pasted into the video.
MSNBC? Who cares? To quote TGO, “there are more people watching sonograms than there are watching MSNBC.”
lets think this out.
Why would Iran DENY they did what they did?
Who is in charge over there if their military darings have to be denied?
The iranians probably want us to fire so that they can fire some Silkworms from the relatively nearby iranian shore batteries. They would say that we opened fire first on simple patrol boats.
I like the way you think! And they won’t mind us sending the fabricated boat crews (if they survive the fabricated blowing up) to Gitmo, either.
Exactly — especially if they were broadcasting threats to the formation as they approached and breached whatever “zone” the Navy has set up to prevent.
One would have to think that the Iranians WANTED to start something to get their people behind them instead of at their throats...
After this “provocation”, I would hope that an official notification is being made to ALL the Islamic Republics in the area that the ROE for events of this nature in the future will be “revised”...
I doubt this was the Iranian Navy -— I would bet these boats were manned by the religious zealots who “work” for the lunatic clerics....
Could there have been a “mid-air” collision between our aircraft and Iranian UAVs? Subsequent scramble/flail on at sea to retrieve the parts and pilots?
