McGovern's Murder Charge
IBD ^ | January 7, 2008

Demagoguery: At 85, George McGovern, whose far-left candidacy for president in 1972 brought in less than 38% of the popular vote, has accused President Bush of murder. Then as today, desperation brings out the ugly in liberal Democrats.

In an op-ed in Sunday's Washington Post, the former senator whose effort to replace Richard Nixon in the White House was once summed up as "the three A's — acid, amnesty and abortion," charges George W. Bush and Vice President Cheney with genocide.

"The dominant commitment of . . . the Bush-Cheney regime," McGovern writes, "has been a murderous, illegal, nonsensical war against Iraq."

Citing a figure about eight times greater than reality, he blamed the president for a conflict that has "claimed the lives of an estimated 600,000 Iraqis" and called for his impeachment.

What about the 296 congressmen, 81 of them Democrats, and the 77 senators, 29 of them Democrats, who voted to authorize the war? Are they murderers too, Senator McGovern? Should they be removed from office?

If that’s how he feels, let him run again. I can’t imagine he’d do any better than in 1972.

McGovern is a lying, leftist loser. Same as it ever was.

In 1972, the World War II generation rejected him in a landslide of historic proportions, even at the height of the allegedly “unpopular” Vietnam war. Today, ala the openly traitorous John Kerry, he would probably give any Republican presidential candidate a good race.

No, McGovern has not changed but the US electorate has lost its way.

Amazing article by one of the Democrats responsible for the deaths of a million Cambodians in the killing fields of Cambodia.

McGovern is just a blathering turd that has gone the way of ass-beads, lava lamps, shag carpeting and Hillarys last male sexual encounter. Also solidifying the fact that his grave will be pi$$ed on by a lot people who will giggle while doing it.

This was the headline news in our “Rapid City Journal” (SoDak) today. I’m ashamed we are from the same state. Daschle was an embarrassment, too. But, I’m pretty proud of Sen. John Thune.

It is not really mcgovern’s fault. he is a toddling old fool that has been wrong on every world issue in the last 50 years. He was responsible for the murder of many Vietnamese and 3 million Cambodians, so he is hardly without guilt. However, the real fault lies with the MSM that feel compelled to wake up these old (people) (cleaned up for public consumption), and quote them for lack of anyone else with their viewpoint.

Poor George is likely senile, though with his wacko views it might be hard to tell. Note the good people of his home state of South Dakota voted against him in the 1972 election two to one.

Even funnier, McGovern got thumped soundly "by 58% to 39%" and lost his seat in 1980 when Reagan won his first term. Here's an excerpt from Time Magazine.

Reagan Gets a G.O.P Senate

Monday, Nov. 17, 1980

...............

South Dakota. In his past campaigns in his home state, George McGovern, 58, always started out behind but managed to win on Election Day. That did not happen this time. His personal popularity and adroit political balancing act—liberal on national issues but attentive to his conservative constituents' needs back home finally failed him, and he lost to Republican four-term Congressman James Abdnor, 57, by 58% to 39%. Said McGovern Aide Lynn Stoterau: "We were relying on the old McGovern magic and charisma, but we couldn't pull it out."

McGovern was also up against several national right-wing groups. At first, a sympathetic backlash for him seemed to be developing among voters who resented the involvement of out-of-staters in the Senate race. But the movement faded when Abdnor emphatically distanced himself from the conservatives' attacks.

Abdnor, a backslapping, elbow-grabbing wheat farmer, staked out more conservative positions than McGovern on almost every issue: abortion, federal spending, defense and Government regulation. Charging that McGovern had lost touch with the state, Abdnor observed, "Clearly, one of us has got to be wrong." The voters decided that it was McGovern, who, for all his talents, was too liberal for them.

That was interesting - I’d forgotten.

I noticed this: “...voters who resented the involvement of out-of-staters in the Senate race...”

Oh, for the good old days when states didn’t have outsiders and their money for TV ads.
