Sununu saves journalist with Heimlich maneuver
Union Leader ^ | 1/6/08 | SCOTT BROOKS

Posted on 01/06/2008 3:00:21 PM PST by LibFreeOrDie

Manchester – When a piece of chicken got stuck in journalist Al Hunt's windpipe Friday night, Sen. John Sununu came to the rescue.

"John was terrific," said Hunt, 65, executive editor for Washington at Bloomberg News. "He quickly jumped up, put his arms around me, did the (Heimlich) maneuver. Within about two seconds, it came out."

Hunt and Sununu were sitting next to each other Friday night at the Hanover Street Chop House in downtown Manchester. The table was packed with powerbrokers, politicians and prominent journalists, including columnist Bob Novak, New York Times managing editor Jill Abramson and Hunt's wife, Judy Woodruff.

Hunt said he stood up at the table, trying to purge the piece of chicken, when Sununu sprung into action.

"It was really, really quick," Hunt said. "Some people were saying they didn't even know it had happened. But, as I say, he was fabulous."

The incident happened around 9 p.m., Hunt said.

Dinner resumed, he said, and the chewing and chatting continued until well after midnight.

Well, that’s it, then. The only solution is for the government to ban chicken so this can never happen again./s/

Good thing it was young John instead of the old man. I don’t know if he would have been tall enough to do any good on Al.

Hunt, of course, would still like to see Sununu defeated. If not dead.

I liked this comment:

"This points out the difference between Republicans and Democrats.Tthe Republican Senator, John Sununu, understands the individual does make a difference, while a Democrat Senator would have waited for the government to step in and handle the problem. Great job, John Sununu!!"

The REAL story:

When a compliment to a republican got stuck in journalist Al Hunt’s windpipe Friday night, Sen. John Sununu came to the rescue.

“John was terrific,” said Hunt, 65, executive editor for Washington at Bloomberg News. “He quickly jumped up, put his arms around me, did the (Heimlich) maneuver. Within about two seconds, it came out. Of course, it was a very tiny compliment - just an admission that GWB had stopped beating Laura so hard.”

“I covered the compliment with a napkin so as not to distress the other liberal diners nearby”, said Sununu. “It was the least I could do.”

I’m acerbic? Check out this thread with all the folks wishing this guy had just died. Why haven’t you jumped on any of them?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1949315/posts

Uh, maybe because I didn't even know this thread existed? Even if I had, I wouldn't have clicked on it, because frankly, I don't care. I don't care who the guy is that you're so concerned about. I don't care who is wishing he died and who isn't. I don't care if there is an ounce of truth in your accusation, or if you're just being your usual dishonest self. I don't care enough to read the article or the replies. I am mildly curious who this guy is that you value above innocent helpless people whose deaths you were advocating on the other thread. But I'm not curious enough to bother reading this thread. I don't care to admonish the FReepers that you claim are wishing for the guy's death. Partly because I've already seen you falsely accuse other FReepers, and partly because I recognize some names on this thread as being good hearted FReepers, and because of their lofty values they are the most likely targets of your vitriol. So take your misplaced sorry excuse for morals and shove them under the rock you crawled out from under.

I have met both father and son. (Just as a point of interest.) Maybe you knew this, but neither of them is great in stature, especially the dad. I saw him in the local hardware store a while ago (he lives near me) and was surprised at just how short he is.
