SUV driver rams into gate outside Davis-Monthan (D-M AFB)
Arizona Daily Star ^
Posted on 01/16/2008 5:07:50 PM PST by SandRat
The driver of a dark sport utility vehicle smashed into a gate outside Davis Monthan Air Force Base near South Swan Road Monday night, an official said.
The SUV sustained front-end damage and the driver fled after ramming into the fence about 8:30 p.m. outside the entrance to the base at South Swan Road, said Tech Sgt. James Fisher, a base spokesman.
The gate was damaged and will have to be replaced, but the SUV wasn’t able to smash through it, he said. “I don’t think it was their intention to enter” the base, Fisher said.
The Swan gate is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. After that another fence is closed to create a buffer zone that keeps intruders from getting into the base, Fisher said. The motorist crashed into a gate in the outer fence, he said.
The Tucson Police Department is assisting base officials with the investigation.

FBI Agents Raid Georgetown DMV Center (DC)

Posted on 01/16/2008 5:28:01 PM PST by RDTF
The Georgetown Park Mall’s Department of Motor Vehicles service center was closed Wednesday after FBI agents conducted a raid there.
D.C. Police officers along with FBI and ICE agents arrested a female employee for selling driver’s licenses.
The DMV’s own integrity officer said eight months ago, he was investigating for a law enforcement agency when he learned about the incident and alerted the authorities.
The D.C. inspector general’s office took over from there, alerting the FBI and other law enforcement authorities.
Agents also arrested four addition suspects. All five suspects will appear in U.S. District Court Thursday.
Three years ago, a similar incident took place at the same service center.

BERLIN - A man with dual German-Iranian citizenship has been arrested in Berlin on suspicion of smuggling nuclear material to Iran, Germany's federal prosecutor said on Wednesday.
The 52-year-old businessman is believed to have tried to send a consignment to a company linked to Iran's disputed nuclear programme, the office of prosecutor Monika Harms said. The man's home and office in Berlin were raided by customs officials on Tuesday. According to the prosecuting authorities, he could face charges of smuggling prohibited material to a blacklisted company.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Canada’s human rights commissions are a threat to freedom of speech in America, says Ezra Levant, the latest in a long string of conservative writers to be brought before Canada’s quasi-judicial panels for speech about Islam.”
#
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Mrs. Fournier was subject to a similar complaint this past summer when the Canadian Human Rights Commission opened an investigation into FreeDominion.com, a conservative Web forum that Mrs. Fournier moderates as the official Canadian sister-site to U.S.-based FreeRepublic. The complaint was withdrawn after gaining the attention of U.S. media outlets, including The Washington Times.
“Americans need to pay attention before implementing similar hate-speech laws,” Mrs. Fournier states. “It’s very dangerous what’s going on here. Nobody is going to want to say anything on a Web site because the chances of someone coming along and being offended is just too great. Nobody is going to want to bear the risk because the chances of being financially ruined are just too great.””
