'Sudden jihad syndrome' poses domestic risk
Washington Times ^ | Jan 2 2008 | Sara A. Carter

Sympathy for al Qaeda has produced "sudden jihad syndrome" in domestic terror cells unaffiliated with foreign terrorists and people seeking to carry out attacks in the U.S., a law-enforcement intelligence analysis says.

The Dec. 6 report by the Texas Public Safety Department's Bureau of Information Analysis warns officials not to dismiss individual or homegrown terror cells as "wannabes," saying they pose a credible threat to homeland security.

"Oftentimes, these attackers are dismissed as suffering from mental health issues, but their own words and writings reveal an affiliation with Islamic supremacy or an affinity for Islamic extremism," said the report, which was distributed to federal, state and local law enforcement in Texas. "As a result, law enforcement should not be too quick to judge their attacks as having no nexus to terrorism."

It said they might act with the intention of eventually joining al Qaeda or the jihad movement overseas.

The report, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times, cited al Qaeda theorist Abu Mu'ab al Suri's book "Call to Global Islamic Resistance," in which Mu'ab al Suri noted that the future of al Qaeda terrorist fighters will depend on individual and small-group terrorists.

I am of the opinion that most jihadists are suffering from mental health issues. They would kill anyway, but killing in the name of religion gives the psychological cover. That it is proscribed in a "holy" book gives them even more cover.

You’re right, they know right from wrong.

Their trouble is that their definition of right and wrong has been twisted by their religious leaders.

I honestly can’t believe I’m reading this phrase in the MSM. They are actually acknowledging it??? Too bad they’ll turn it into just another “mental illness” and the perpetrators will be victims no matter how long they’ve been anti-American or terrorist sympathizers... The MSM and psychologists really don’t understand sarcasm do they?

It looks like the authorities are “edging closer” to finally admitting that there is a “jihad component” to a lot of these so-called “crazies” — in which they previously said there is no connection to terrorism. I mean we all *knew* that there was a connection, even if they did not belong to an al Qaida cel. It was simple common sense. It may be that simple common sense is finally catching up to the authorities in regards to this issue...

Oftentimes, these attackers are dismissed as suffering from mental health issues

So we can conclude that the Muslim religion leads to mental health issues?

All this talk of NO Islamnofaschist attacks within the US since 9/11 is horse puckey. All sorts of independent actions have occurred (e.g. SLC mall).

'Sudden jihad syndrome' poses domestic risk

"Muzzies pose domestic risk" would be the accurate headline.

They go around trying to look like normal people, then suddenly, without warning they do what they have dreamed of doing to achieve what they call martyrdom.
Since we don’t know who is going to get “sudden jihad syndrome”, all of the members of the cult of death must be deported, and their cheering section on the left as well.

As soon as we get a Democratic wuss administration, domestic jihadist terrorism will return.

The government needs to go after the people who propagandized and inspired the sudden-jihadis. For example, mosque leaders or even parents could be prosecuted for encouraging murder. If a Christian parent or preacher pushed a young follower into bombing abortion clinics would the government NOT PROSECUTE the one who recruited the bomber? They are a party to the murders. It is reprehensible that they encourage and manipulate others into commiting suicidal attacks while they walk free and claim innocence. Freedom of speech does not include exhortations to mass murder. We need to strike at the source of jihadism.
