US diplomat killed in Sudan shooting

KHARTOUM, Sudan - An American diplomat and his driver were shot to death Tuesday in the Sudanese capital, the U.S. Embassy said, a day after a joint African Union-United Nations force took over peacekeeping in Sudan's Darfur region.

It was not immediately known if the motive for the attack was political or a random crime.

"This afternoon, the American officer succumbed to his injuries and passed away," said Walter Braunohler, the spokesman at the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum.

Braunohler said the diplomat, whose name was not released, worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry identified the wounded American as a humanitarian aid official and said he was shot five times in the hand, shoulder and belly. The diplomat underwent surgery following the attack, according to the ministry's statement.

Don't say that! We should instead focus our efforts on having liberals have some sort of peace concert to "save Darfur"... in Darfur!

I've always believed that liberals only pretend to care about the Darfur Genocide because they hate Bush and the Iraq War. Furthermore, I assert that if Bush had not taken us into Iraq, but instead, invaded Darfur, the liberals would be accusing him personally of perpetuating the genocide by starting an "illegal war."

No they’re not. The men in the villages would rather fight their neighbor for a camel turd than the government over a bushel of corn. Darfur will never become humanized because it’s the way it is and for those who stay it’s the way it will always be. I know a person who was raised in Darfur till he was 13 and he will be the first to tell anyone that he didn’t become human till he left.

Exactly! Where’s Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt? They should be there opening up their own grocery store instead of expecting our taxpaying dollars to cure them. The only thing our taxpaying dollars have paid for is more bullets and a dead diplomat.

Keep in mind that the diplomat was not killed in Darfur, but in the capital of Sudan. It's the northern (Arab/Muslim) Sudanese who are terrorizing Darfur and other southern areas

That said, Darfur does not need "humanitarian aid". They need a bunch of SF guys training them on how to shoot back, then sending them back with lots of ammo
