CAIRO, Egypt - Osama bin Laden warned Iraq's Sunni Arabs against fighting al-Qaida and promised to expand the terror group's holy war to Israel in a new audiotape Saturday, threatening "blood for blood, destruction for destruction."
Most of the 56-minute tape dealt with Iraq, apparently al-Qaida's latest attempt to keep supporters in Iraq unified at a time when the U.S. military claims to have al-Qaida's Iraq branch on the run.
The tape did not mention Pakistan or the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, though Pakistan's government has blamed al-Qaida and the Taliban for her death on Thursday.
But bin Laden's comments offered an unusually direct attack on Israel, which has warned of growing al-Qaida activity in Palestinian territory. The terror network is not believed to have taken a strong role there so far.
"We intend to liberate Palestine, the whole of Palestine from the (Jordan) river to the sea," he said, threatening "blood for blood, destruction for destruction."
"We will not recognize even one inch for Jews in the land of Palestine as other Muslim leaders have," bin Laden said.
In Iraq, a number of Sunni Arab tribes in western Anbar province have formed a coalition fighting al-Qaida-linked insurgents that U.S. officials credit for deeply reducing violence in the province. The U.S. military has been working to form similar "Awakening Councils" in other areas of Iraq.
White House spokesman Tony Fratto said bin Laden's tape shows that al-Qaida's aim is to block democracy and freedom for all Iraqis.
"It also reminds us that the mission to defeat al-Qaida in Iraq is critically important and must succeed," Fratto said. "The Iraqi people every day, and in increasing numbers are choosing freedom and standing against the murderous, hateful ideology of AQI. And we stand with them."
In the audiotape, bin Laden denounced Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha, the former leader of the Anbar Awakening Council, who was killed in a September bombing claimed by al-Qaida.
"The most evil of the traitors are those who trade away their religion for the sake of their mortal life," bin Laden said.
Bin Laden said U.S. and Iraqi officials are seeking to set up a "national unity government" joining the country's Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.
"Our duty is to foil these dangerous schemes, which try to prevent the establishment of an Islamic state in Iraq, which would be a wall of resistance against American schemes to divide Iraq," he said.
The authenticity of the tape could not be independently confirmed. But the voice resembled that of bin Laden. The tape was posted on an Islamic militant Web site where al-Qaida's media arm, Al-Sahab, issues the group's messages.
The tape was the fifth message released by bin Laden this year, a flurry of activity after he went more than a year without issuing any tapes. The messages began with a Sept. 8 video that showed bin Laden for the first time in nearly three years. The other messages this year have been audiotapes.
In an October tape, bin Laden sought to patch up splits between Iraqi insurgent factions, urging them to unite with the Islamic State of Iraq the insurgent coalition led by al-Qaida. He took a conciliatory stance, chiding even al-Qaida's followers for being too "extremist" in their positions toward other insurgents.
Bin Laden's deputy Ayman al-Zawahri took a sharper tone in a Dec. 16 video, branding as "traitors" those who work with the anti-Qaida tribal councils and calling for Sunnis to purge anyone cooperating with the Americans.
Hey, Binny boy - whyn't you lead by example instead of keeping your sorry as* safe, far away from the fray?
I'm idly toying with the idea of releasing some "General Patton" tapes as a response. This whole thing could become bigger than "East Coast rap" vs. "West Cost rap" if I play it right.
If a country recognizes or doesn't and signs trade treaties etc., it might be significant, but if someone who lacks a country altogether and does not represent a country will not recognize something it is less than irrrelevant.
More News On al-Qaedas Woes In Iraq and Elsewhere
****************************EXCERPT************************
The stories of al-Qaedas problems are starting to avalanche as Iraq turns the corner, causing a domino effect across the Muslim world in terms of al-Qaedas falling credibility and respect. The wave of good news is so strong I can only synopsize and link to the stories these days. So here we go:
Coalition forces keep rounding up al-Qaeda leaders as the leads from previous captures provide the intel to pick up other targets and gain more leads. al-Qaeda cannot hide among the populace of Iraq anymore which makes the whole process easier.
The other source of leads are the Iraqis themselves who are turning in weapons and bomb caches. Which in turn leads to the huge drop off in violence seen in Iraq. Another new statistic on the changing tide in Iraq is this tidbit: And on Nov. 16, Iraq experienced just 33 terrorist incidents, he pointed out. This is the lowest number of any attacks in a single day in Iraq in nearly three and a half years, Smith said.. Recall that there were long periods in October without combat deaths:

But al-Qaeda is not just losing in Iraq. They are being routed elsewhere. We know they have been challenged successfully in Lebanon. But few know they also have apparently been routed in Algiers as well. They are losing leadership faster there than in Iraq. Seems the Muslims in Algiers are also turning al-Qaedas butchers into authorities.
And it seem they have also been running into trouble in Libya of all places:
This tells me most of what I need to know about this tape. Anybody here know if this Abu Risha was a prominent enough figure to have been an irritant to OBL a few years ago (when we probably killed him)?
Osama bin Laden... promised to expand the terror group's holy war to IsraelGosh, that's bad news, considering the koranimals have been really peaceloving until now. /sarc
september, and yea he was a biggie
I like that idea, please run with it!
Get 'em all together, put 'em in a pot. Put the lid on it and turn up the heat. Things will happen inside, and it won't be the happiest place to be.
Big talk for a man hiding in the armpit of the world.
Proving, once again, that, when confronted, Islamic Fundamentalists are nothing more than scared schoolgirls.
The pathetic creature bin laden is from another era! His days of embracing Satan are numbered. We fast lose our assumed significant self in life. The Trinity is a wonderful gift. Man can call out to the Holy Ghost for help and the beautiful gift arrives but, a man like bin laden must endure the torment of turning his back on God.
Bin Laden just keeps reaffirming why Iraq was the right place to fight the war on terror.
bin Laden has been dead ever since the assault on Tora Bora. The muzzies just keep creating bin Laden new tapes through clever editing. It’s probably like tying a dead guy yo the saddle of a horse to lead a cavalry charge. They know that is they keep doing it some fool will believe them.
Yawn. All this guy can do these days is make these stupid tapes. I hope he enjoys his toys before he dies a gorrible death.
Somebody needs to pick him up a cheap video camera, so that we can really believe that these are real.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I’d like to see the US start deonouncing these tapes as frauds (even if they are real) just see the kind of reaction we would get out of Al Q. Maybe this would encourage bin Laden or his Egyptian side-kick to expose themselves just prove us wrong.
Al Qaeda has been utterly defeated in Iraq and there will be no dawn for them anywhere else.
I feel the same way. Until I see a video of BL holding the most recent Islamaba Times, I think we got him at Tora Bora. Give me a vintage fireside chat tape by FDR, and a decent editing machine, and I could make a tape recording by Roosevelt you’d swear was made yesterday.
you're just sayin that to p*ss them off!

So yes, this tape certainly does not document that Bin Laden is still alive. He should have died of natural causes years ago, presuming that his remote location did not permit him to get the kidney dialysis he reportedly needed to stay alive.
I suspect that Bin Laden is in Iran. He’s perpetuating the Iranian ruse about Israel. Iran is trying to build enough nukes to launch on western Europe. And when it comes to us, contrary to wishful thinking, Shiites and Sunnis sometimes get pretty thick with each other.
You watch too many movies.
How anybody can take spiritual guidance from this neurotic, whining, rich mama’s boy is beyond me.
