Phyllis Schlafly's Sunday Commentary column, "Questions for GOP candidates," provided some interesting insight about American relations with mainland China. She wrote, "It's important for Americans to realize that China is still a very communist and anti-American country."
Well, Mrs. Schlafly, one Republican presidential candidate has addressed the growing threat to America from China, and he is being written off by many media outlets, including The Washington Times, as having no chance of ever becoming president of the United States even though we have not had a caucus or primary election yet.
That man is Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, and when he has been given time to talk in the presidential debates, he has addressed the China threat.....
Mr. Hunter called on Mr. Romney to have Bain Capital drop its partnership with Huawei Technologies. During a debate in Iowa, Mr. Romney did not respond.
Earlier this month, Mr. Hunter introduced legislation calling on Americans to buy more American-made goods during the Christmas shopping season.
Mr. Hunter has consistently called for tougher trade sanctions against China. He believes China and the United States should be competing on a level playing field, but the "free traders" who dominate the Republican Party continue to ignore him.

Duncan Hunter is correct.
What he really needs, though, instead of being right, is about 10 million bucks.
Hunter has the ideas but not the support.
He’s running for Sec Def.
BUMP!!
LOL.
No, he is running for President.
He would be a really good VP though
If he could get 11%, he’d be considered top tier. Just look at Fred.
It all comes down to one question. Which candidate is best qualified to lead the U.S. as President? It’s Duncan Hunter and most conservatives know that, but they just don’t know how to get away from the “brand names”. I think when the Huckster goes down in flames, people will start to take this race much more seriously. After all, how many times can this one or that “surge” before people start to think that there has to be a better choice. There is!
That's because it was a silly demand. Romney doesn't control Bain Capital and hasn't since 1998.
Thanks for posting this. B4DH.
Note that the poll you mentioned is now part of my pre-tagline signature.

In this poll Hunter is up 3% and even with Paul and Thompson.

He and Tancredo were the only two candidates with the “galls” to even address the China issue.
“That’s because it was a silly demand. Romney doesn’t control Bain Capital and hasn’t since 1998.”
His family is still profiting from Bain. He has influence.
According to the NY times, the Romney family is still raking in $ from Bain.
“Neither Mr. Giuliani, a Republican, nor Mr. Edwards, a Democrat, is the richest of the White House hopefuls. That title belongs to Mitt Romney, a founder of the private equity firm Bain Capital, who has said he expects to report as much as $350 million in assets, including a trust for his heirs. Mr. Romney and Senator John McCain of Arizona, both Republicans, and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Democrat of New York, have all received extensions of the filing deadline for their forms.

How come I never heard of this? What does this proposed legislation look like? Any of you Hunter supporters want to give me some details before I draw my own conclusions on just what in the heck this was about?
Hunter has no chance. If he had some momentum then he’d be the perfect anti-huck but outside of the Kool-Aid drinkers no one believes he can do much.

| HUNTER ENCOURAGES AMERICANS TO BUY AMERICAN-MADE PRODUCTS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON | |
|
Washington, D.C. Today, Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, announced the introduction of the All-American Holiday Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The measure, H.Res. 831, encourages Americans to purchase American-made products this holiday season. As Americans head to the stores to purchase gifts for family and friends this holiday season, they will have the choice of buying either foreign, imported products, or those which are made here in America, said Congressman Hunter. By choosing to purchase American-made products, consumers will be helping to strengthen our nations economy, protect American workers and stimulate our deteriorating manufacturing base. Additionally, the overall quality of imported products, particularly those originating from China, continues to raise considerable safety and health concerns. When purchasing American-made products, consumers can also take comfort in knowing that the health and safety of their loved ones will not be threatened. This is because America maintains the most stringent manufacturing standards and safest regulatory system in the world. While we must correct the unfair trade policies that continue to disadvantage our manufactures, we can begin taking steps towards revitalizing American industry this holiday season by simply buying products that are made in America. H.Res. 831 has been referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee for further consideration. |
H. RES. 831
Encouraging Americans to purchase American-made products during the holiday season, and for other purposes.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
November 15, 2007
Mr. HUNTER submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce
RESOLUTION
Encouraging Americans to purchase American-made products during the holiday season, and for other purposes.
Whereas the holidays are a time to focus and reflect on family and think of those less fortunate;
Whereas Americans must unite and consider the economic future and ways to make America stronger and more prosperous for future generations;
Whereas Americans should make every effort to support the troops serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, especially during the holiday season, and thank them for protecting freedom;
Whereas all Americans should honor the sacrifice, contributions, and dedication of members of the Armed Forces, both on and off the battlefield, in defending the ideals of this great country;
Whereas American-made products stimulate the United States economy and fund the Armed Forces;
Whereas the United States global trade deficit reached $105,000,000,000 in 2006 and over 3,100,000 American manufacturing jobs have been lost between 2001 and 2006;
Whereas domestic manufacturing represents the backbone of both the United States economy and its working-class citizens;
Whereas the loss of American manufacturing jobs in pursuit of less expensive labor and less stringent regulatory systems in other countries causes harm to children’s health and economic futures;
Whereas pet food, toothpaste, toys, lunchboxes, pharmaceuticals, clothes, tires, and food exported from China have exposed American children, families, and pets to dangerous chemicals, lead, and other hazards;
Whereas the entry of China into the World Trade Organization has failed to reduce China’s trade surplus with the United States, causing the loss of more than 1,800,000 jobs in the United States and a trade deficit explosion from $50,000,000,000 in 1997 to $235,000,000,000 in 2006;
Whereas China is manipulating its currency to gain added competitive advantage over manufactured products from the United States;
Whereas Chinese state-owned firms funded with trade dollars from the United States are acquiring domestic companies and technologies, as well as buying weapon systems that members of the Armed Forces may have to face on future battlefields; and
Whereas buying products made in the United States strengthens the economy, supports the military, and benefits all Americans: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) recognizes that the United States has the safest regulatory regime in the world that better protects families and children;
(2) encourages Americans to support American workers and protect American children by buying American products this holiday season;
(3) supports and encourages a holiday season celebrated with American-made products; and
(4) encourages Americans to purchase American-made products during this holiday season.
They are only "top tier" because the MSM say they are.
Enough of the MSM telling "us" whom we need.
China is a threat, but calling it “communist” at this point is ridiculous. Private ownership of corporations, a stock market, and home ownership were not exactly hallmarks of the old Soviet Union, which truly was a Communist economy (and suffered economic retardation as a result). The Chinese are smarter than the Russians in the gradual transformation from communism to “state capitalism.”
Gee, I wonder why he has no chance.....and no momentum...it's probably because of people who post here and run around saying "He has no chance, he has no momentum".
Ya think?
FMCDH(BITS)
I am pretty sure it was a resolution and not actual legislation. It is a “sense of Congress” as opposed to a law.
I am pretty sure it was a resolution and not actual legislation. It is a “sense of Congress” as opposed to a law.
Huck has no chance. Rudy hasn’t a chance. Mitt hasn’t a chance.
That leaves Fred and Hunter... /shrug.
Yet one more reason I support Hunter.
It would be impossible to enforce a law requiring people to buy "more" American goods.
I just can’t get ‘into’ this campaign with the candidates that are running.
I have some kind of affliction since all I hear when most of them talk is blah blah blah.......
for instance:
Hillary - I was married to a President and my last name is Clinton, so I deserve to be President blah blah blah......
Obama - I am black and Oprah loves me because I am black, vote for me blah blah blah.......
Giuliani - I was Mayor of NYC during 911, vote for me, blah blah blah............
McCain - It is my turn $%^&!**%$! I deserve to be President, blah blah blah........
Huckabee - I am a Christian, blah blah blah......
The candidates not mentioned sometimes have other things to say before they hit the blah blah blah meter.
Sigh, I am not enthused at all.
I have been blogging on this SECDEF ploy for over a year, if a Pub candidate wins. He will be great and tough. Now, with the Pak. horror , Rudy and John comes back into the field once again. National security to me is always our first priority.

If you not only goto his campaign web site but especially Hunter’s Congressional web site which has his legislative history, voting, etc.
Since the MSM does not like adult conservatives, they have marginalized Hunter.
This only proves he has the knowledge & background to be
president.
The MSM will push liberals and half wit others
*calling it communist at this point is ridiculous*
Don’t think so. During the cold war, communist leaders
lived like westerners but their countries were Marxists.
China may have changed in certain economic ways since decades ago but there is still oppression, slave labor and no total freedom of religion.
Then again, can a student of Chinese history please tell me any period, whether under the Empire or in the post Sun Yat Sen-era where China wasn't a repressive place?
North Korea, Cuba, and the old Soviet Union are/were far worse. We must nevertheless see China as a threat, rather than as a "cooperative" power.
Methinks we are going back to the good old days of "balance of power" politics and a multipolar world. Will it be us, the Chinese, the Indians, and the Europeans? Will the Muslims rise as power block? The latter is doubtful, as most Muslims states are too divided by ethnic and religious differences.
Since you are not interested in Hunter to begin with, why not move on to one of your flyover candidates who has no real background to be president, only the MSM keeps them going because the democrat candidate will eat them up
I like him the best but he’s not going to win......
That would be a mistake, as Donald Rumsfeld learned. He wasn't able to convince the President to take the Chinese threat ...and Putin's...more seriously...and now he's fired.
Meanwhile he was ordered by W to do a whole slew of unilateral disarmament cuts because of W's handshake deals with Pooty-Poot and his promises to China.
It is a pity that Don is too loyal to talk openly about how he was used...and misused.
