[history]
Fort Bragg — Southwest Airlines picked up the tab to fly 180 soldiers temporarily stationed at Fort Bragg home to Texas for the holidays.
The members of the Texas National Guard were stationed at Fort Bragg and expected to be deployed to Afghanistan before the holidays, said John Lucy, assistant director of the United Service Organization's center at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

well they have just cemented their position as my preferred airline (as if US Airways service had not already helped do that)

This is wonderful, but I can’t believe our government isn’t doing this already. We can pay for illegal alien health care, education and deportation to Mexico (for the one or two aliens actually deported each year), but it has always amazed me how our soliders are on their own re: travel costs back and forth from their bases to their homes.
But yes, thank you Southwest Airlines!

That won’t happen. I just spent a thousand dollars for myself, my husband and our son to fly to my daughter’s base to see her before she deploys to Iraq. Not only can she not fly home for free but she cannot come home at all before she leaves. We are still waiting to find out if she can take leave from her duties on base to spend time with us while we are there.

I just called Southwest Air to say thank you and God bless you for Operation Miracle and had no trouble getting through. The young lady who took my call seemed confused, but when I mentioned the 180 Texas soldiers who were being flown home for Christmas she said “Oooh, Thank You Ma’am.
We always call to complain when something is wrong, so let’s show Southwest our appreciation for making Christmas happen for some of our valiant troops !!!

Kudos to SWA!
And all the other airlines, their personnel and those occassional
folks that trade their first-class seats so that military can
have at least one really nice leg of their trip to/from their assignments.

This reminds me that my nephew who is a Marine, just home this year from Iraq and recently re-upped, was advised by his commanding officer last Christmas not to wear his uniform at the airport for his own protection.

Misted up alittle when I called.. Told Jonie to let the top dogs know people appreciate what they’re doing.

I, too, just called Southwest and talked to Michelle. No problem getting through quickly. I told her to MAKE SURE she passed on to the mucky-mucks that, as a Vietnam veteran, I especially was appreciative as to their treatment of current servicemen and women and would fly Southwest as my preferred airlines in the future. (so long as the fares aren't
TOO much higher than others)
