Ed Rollins Offers Apology To Black Ministers, in Person (History on Huck's
The New York Times ^ | 6/15/1994 | KIMBERLY J. MCLARIN,

Like a sinner to the altar, Ed Rollins returned to New Jersey today, seeking forgiveness from the same black ministers he once boasted that he had bought. The Republican campaign consultant stood before the Black Ministers Council in a church basement here and apologized for claiming last November that he had helped Gov. Christine Todd Whitman win election by suppressing black voter turnout. At the time, Mr. Rollins told reporters that the Whitman campaign had paid black ministers not to encourage their congregations to vote for then Gov. Jim Florio. He quickly recanted, and a Federal inquiry found no evidence of such payments. "My behavior was inexcusable, and I do come here with deep remorse," Mr. Rollins said, his voice steady, his hands slightly trembling. "I regret what I said. It wasn't true." Mr. Rollins said his apology had nothing to do with resurrecting his career, or with clearing the way for him to represent Republicans in contests this year. Rather he sought to repair the damage his words had caused, he said. And several ministers said they believed it was a good start. "As ministers we preach and teach repentance and forgiveness," the Rev. Reginald Jackson of St. Matthew A.M.E. Church in Orange said. "For us not to be forgiving of genuine repentance would be a contradiction and un-Christian." "But," he said, "let it be understood by all that forgiveness is not forgetting." "Amen," said several ministers in the group. "I have been in politics for a very, very long time," Mr. Rollins said. "I have made statements before that have been stupid. I have made statements that I'm sure are inaccurate. I have never made a statement ever in my life that has been as hurtful

I wasn't sure what topic to post this article under considering its age. Living in New Jersey as a Republican is like living in the land of your own dying species. If people out there are all fired up over Huck then maybe they should to a look at this schmuck. Nice choice choice Mike. Who do you plan on tapping for Secretary of State? Ramsey Clark?

Are you comparing Ed Rollins to Ramsey Clark? I’d like to see a little meat on that bone, please.

You must not be aware of Rollins’ record. Or Schrum’s, for that matter.

Washed up has been. Brings nothing to the Huckster’s campaign. Already proving to be a liability. Huckabee is showing why he is not ready for prime time. All this stuff on Rollins is readily available on Google.

Thanks for posting this. Just more ammo to be used against Huckabee/the Huckabee campaign, apology or no apology. I can’t believe Rollins would say something like that. I can’t believe that anyone would believe his apology is genuine.

Yeah, but when Rollins was engineering Reagan's 49 State Landslide in '84, he had a candidate that wasn't an ignoramus.

Maybe Rollins just wants the exercise, like Jack Nicklaus whacking the golf ball around for the fun of it now.

That’s the point I’m making (I’m certainly not defending Huckabee). Rollins is a gun-slinger. Heck, he worked for Perot. Maybe he simply decided the pay is good, and he wants a Donzi ZR.

No comprende. Because you are questioning A's judgment and choice, B is compared to C?

Oh I think we're on the same page, even the likes of Bob Beckel probably made a nice chunk o' change back in '84 when he engineered Walter Mondale's 1 state victory, LOL!

As for the Donzi ZR? I'll take one in blue, thank you!
