Lewisville warehouse is new site for President Bush records

Millions of records, photos and artifacts tracing the presidency of George W. Bush will move from the White House to a white North Texas warehouse by early 2009 under a recently awarded government contract.

The six-year, $12.7 million contract, overseen by the National Archives and Records Administration, will turn Lewisville's 1725 Lakepointe Drive into the hub of work to organize and catalogue a massive cache of presidential materials before they move into a permanent library.

"It is expected that the collection will be greater than the Clinton holdings, which consist of over 30,000 cubic feet of textual and non-textual holdings," National Archives spokeswoman Susan Cooper said by e-mail Wednesday. "The electronic component will also be greater than the Clinton administration holdings."

The project includes office space, support space and storage. In soliciting bids earlier this year, federal officials requested a 60,000-square-foot space within 25 miles of North Central Expressway at Lovers Lane in Dallas, near Southern Methodist University.

But National Archives officials have said the location isn't confirmation that SMU will be the site of the planned Bush library and policy center. Last December, SMU was named the sole finalist for the project, and the school remains in negotiations.

It’s about 17 miles by air, but it’s more than 25 miles driving between the two locations.

Anybody know when this Presidential Library crap started? How much does it cost us? Is there a George Washington or Abraham Lincoln Library? Why can’t the National Archives store this trivia in Maryland?

I think FDR started the Presidential Library thing.

I'll admit, I've never been tempted or drawn to visit one of these ego monuments.

Even the Gipper's would probably bore and depress me.

LOL!!!

Trivia? You are giving this crap too much credit.

“Why can’t the National Archives store this trivia in Maryland?”

Better, why can’t it be dumped out at sea?
