a very smart older woman that i know was visiting salt lake city recently and made this comment:

“I don’t think we should be worried about muslims, we should worry about the mormons! you think you can just get into their church to hear the choir? don’t you believe it! they have guards there and not just anyone can get in. very scary and worrisome to say the least.

LOL a Jazz game has more guards and is harder to get into. You can watch both on TV, a lot more comfortably I might add. : )

I’ve got some mormon buddies that are pretty solid citizens. Mormonism sure ain’t my cup of tea, but I certainly defend their right to believe it.

Of course, I might join up if they go back to the days when you could have a harem. ;o)

I'd probably join up for that too. Assuming that they let them wear makeup and something other than homemade dresses. I don't think that's the Mormons though.

I've been to the Temple Complex in SLC. Only a part of it is restricted access.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, oddly enough, sings in the Mormon Tabernacle, which is open to the public.

They also have a very expensive visitor center. It's loaded with presentations about Mormon history that are more than a little slanted, but that's another issue. It's open to the public. Only the Temple is restricted, and that's restricted for Mormons who haven't met the requirements, for that matter.

Question: Why is it "scary and worrisome" that a religion may want to keep some of its rituals private? Are you aware that much of the ritual of the Jewish Temple was also kept private? One part of the Temple was considered so holy only one man could enter it, the High Priest, and then only on one day of the year.

I don’t have any problem with them being closed to non mormons.

Dude, you better brush up on your knowledge of mormons. The makeup industry thrives in Utah.

Fortunately for you and I our forebears bothered to come up with the Treaty of Westphalia, which is why we keep those thoughts to ourselves.

Might take a look at it sometime ~ the treaty reflected a vast seachange in European thought in the aftermath of the disaster called the Thirty Years War.

Yeah, I guess. My cousin is dating a Mormon guy and I've checked out their beliefs. I think it's a crock. And man, they put the pressure on. He has to go to a two year brainwashing fest this next year. Whatever.

The harem thingy in their theology was the most attractive, traditional and historically justified part. For the life of me, I don’t know why they ever changed it - many of us believers in the historical dogmas would have converted to Mormonism.

Bet that ol'gal actually thought she could get in on the ground floor of a mosque and pray with the guys.

Here head'd be rolling down the street in a New York minute.

It was outlawed by Abe Lincoln, I believe.

Strange that Albert Moehler and Hugh Hewitt have opposing views. Aren’t they on the same radio network (Salem Communications) or Townhall.com? What I am surprised is Hugh is such a defender of Mormonism and a paid shill of Romney, has he forgone his own Christian beliefs?

O’Donnell missed the whole purpose of the speech. Proves you don’t need a brain to be on one of these shows.

I don’t watch them anymore because of all the yelling back and forth and 3 or 4 people all doing it at the same time.

We drove right THROUGH the MIDDLE of Salt Lake City on our way to Colorado. We didn’t get stopped or anything! I really like living on the edge.

Could you put me on your conservative babe of the week ping list? : )

I think I am changing my mind about giving our political nominees a religious anal exam. I tend to support Hunter but since he is a Baptist I think he believes that if he sticks his hands up and prays he can stop the moon and the rotation of the earth. Does he believe the earth is only 10,000 years old? If he believes either of those two questions is he rational enough to lead this country?

That long ago? I didn’t realize. So these polygamists have been on the run since then?
