“I don’t reply when there is no doubt I’m right.”
It sounds as if you are advising the libs on their approach to global warming.

It is an approved copy of a speech by Mormon President Brigham Young in the new tabernacle at Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 30, 1870. It was taken down in shorthand by one George Watt, his clerk, and published. I would not presume to argue with such an august fellow in the LDS church about what their beliefs are.

FR courtesy and custom is to include a Freeper in the "to" box when you call his name.

To the point, if he is that baitable by a reporter, he will be way out of his league dealing with both our friends and enemies.

He's toast - if not off this, it's just a matter of time until the shark will be well and truly jumped.

I really enjoy Beck.
Bought 3 autographed books of his for gifts.

But IMO he is a Catholic who fell head over heals for a woman who is a Mormon.

He has said the last drink he put down and quit drinking was because he spotted her across the room met her then married her.

He fell in love quit drinking (good for him) and adopted his wifes Morman faith.

There’s a distinct difference between angry and informed. You should try living that distinction.

You need to stop clarifying the muddy water, OK?

I wonder how many TBMs have their punch cards ready for Joseph Smith when they stand at the gates to the Celestial Kingdom.

[New York Times writer Zev Chafets: I asked Huckabee, who describes himself as the only Republican candidate with a degree in theology, if he considered Mormonism a cult or a religion. “I think it’s a religion,” he said. “I really don’t know much about it.” . . . I was about to jot down this piece of boilerplate when Huckabee surprised me with a question of his own: "Don’t Mormons,” he asked in an innocent voice, "believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?”]

One of the painful lessons I’ve learned over the years is that many politicians and many preachers will lie to you and take your money.

Proved to me Hucka is just too dumb to be President. Maybe it’s not dumbness, but a sure lack of political instinct to say such a stupid thing as that.

Anyone who thinks you can say anything around a reporter the he won't use it in his story is really naive. I don't want a politically naive person representing my party or my country.

They officially don’t consider it canon.

Though Brigham Young said, “I have never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men, that they may not call scripture” (Journal of Discourses 13:95), the next line is, “Let me have the privilege of correcting a sermon, and it is as good Scripture as they deserve.”

So they say that since he never had the chance to correct these sermons (even though there were thousands of them over several years), they can’t be considered scripture.

And heck, if things get too sticky, there’s always the retroactive revelation trick. :-)

I dunno, I thought I read something like that long ago in one of the books the Mormons gave or loaned me, D&C was one, think P of GP the other, but I don't remember much that was in it/them now. I was kind of intrigued with the idea at the time of the pre-existence of souls, won't say I believe it now, but I don't know. A couple Mormon missionaries upbraided me for leaning toward reincarnation which I was at the time, have since jettisoned that one, no problem about that; evidently Mormons don't believe it either.

From a non-Mormon POV, they both were created by God the Father and pre-existed for some time, Jesus certainly/probably from the beginning. Now I read in my bible that Lucifer had some sort of special status before he rebelled and took 1/3 of the angels with him. So what is wrong with thinking of them of at least spiritual brothers? Cain and Abel were brothers. One ended up murdered by the other. Jesus, I guess I'm supposed to believe he was the only begotten son, I don't really know what that means theologically (please don't try to explain it). I believe Jesus had a creator role. He was foreordained to be the savior. Lucifer was the Morning Star whatever that is.

I'm going way out on a limb here :-) and state emphatically that I do not believe any Mormon thinks Jesus and Lucifer were on good terms after the fall. They became enemies after that. Before that? I doubt it if they were both doing the will of the Father.

Now this is just my personal opinion, but I believe that Lucifer can muck up creation but I can't cite a bible passage. I just believe he can manipulate life to a certain extent, who, what, and how, don't ask, I don't know. He just can't create it.

So what is the big deal about it really? Probably that the remark was intended to be derogatory and inflammatory. For that reason he should apologize. If the apology was heartfelt and sincere. How do we know? We don't. At least it was a reaching of sorts across the great divide.

The message wasn’t intended for you, but I can see why you’d want to know you were being quoted and contradicted.

My bad.

Part of the problem is that there really is alot of confusion about Mormonism. When JFK made the religion speech in 1960, 25% of America was Catholic. Today, Catholics are 22-23% of the population. That's not the case with Mormonism. Two percent of American Christians are Mormons. Either Romney or another candidate bringing it up stirs more questions without providing any answers. Most people's experience with the faith comes from hearing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, door-knockers (which are not always welcome), or tv shows and news reports about polygamy.

Is it such a big surprise that there might be little difference between what might be considered a gratuitous comment versus a question about the faith?

hehehe

Kurt Evans to All>He didn’t say it. He asked a question.

I think Mike Huckabee ought to ask for a refund from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary...they seem to have stolen his tuition, too.
