They're marketed as the all-American girls, each representing a different period in American history. But CBS 11 found the American Girl dolls that teach our heritage aren't really American.

Before my daughter died, we collected dolls. I recently found out that Marie Osmond’s dolls are make in China, too. I won’t be buying any but she sure does have some cute ones.
Mattel, doncha know. I just hope my daughters don’t eat them.
lol
Does it surprise you? Even our flag, Old Glory, is made in China. Buy American, it’s gettin’ harder to do as most everything is made somewhere else besides here.
I have two young daughters. I don’t mean to derail this thread, but my heart breaks for you and your loss. I have no words.
The parking lot at our local Toys R Us was only a third full yesterday as I drove past, unheard of at this time of year. You can’t tell me the toy sellers aren’t getting the message.
I’m really sorry about your loss too. I can’t imagine what that must be like..I’m so sorry.
You know I am getting fed up with all the internet ads being forced down our throats.
When I click on a video and get an ad instead. I click to close.
If before I close I see the product before I click, it’s now registered as a negative in my mind and that advertiser got just the opposite of what they had hoped for.
Sorry to hear about your daughter.
I have another daughter, a granddaughter and a grandson. My gd is going to have a baby in March. They say it will be a girl. This will be one spoiled baby! I can not believe I am going to be a great grandmother at my age. President Bush and I are about the same age. Someone told me that would be hard on them but I said I was young enough to really enjoy this new one unlike some people who do not even have grandchildren at my age.
My grandniece in another state has a little boy who is a little over 1, another gn is having a baby this month and with ours, there will be several little ones to grow up together.
God Bless you, your family and friends.
Oh good...I can tell Sassy to take American dolls off her list. EFG
She no love you long time. 8`(
“Turns Out American Girl Dolls are Really Made in China”
Isn’t pretty much everything these days?
On the bright side, considering recent trends in both the United States and China, the little doll can really mean it when she says, “Is that lead in your pencil, or are you just happy to see me?”
You didn’t bother anyone...thank you for sharing your faith and spirit. My sincere sympathies for your losses.
Nothing wrong with that, if fact they SHOULD be made elsewhere. They're just dolls. They were invented a thousand years ago. More really.
The bigger problem is that we aren't doing our part. We should be building things that no one else can, things that weren't invented 10 years ago. And, unfortunately still haven't been invented. THAT was OUR job. We should be supporting colonies on the moon, establishing colonies on Mars and maybe elsewhere
We're not doing our part.
Did you get your tree up and decorated???? :)
She already has 2 of them & for the price of them the hair gets nasty very quickly. She is into those webkinz now & they cost far less.
Plus American Girl Dolls support pro-choice causes.
Do a search for American Girl on FR. You’ll be surprised!
There’s another AG type doll out somewhere. I remember when the whole thing came up a couple years ago about them supporting the gay and feminist agenda. I had found a source for these dolls but can’t recall now what they were called. Maybe someone esle remembers it?
At least one of the American Girls dolls used to be made in Baldwinsville, NY. There was a Goetz factory and retail outlet. They arranged field trips through the factory which we went on a couple times. They were very popular trips and a lot of fun. We were VERY disappointed when they closed but thank you NY.
IIRC, that wasn’t always the case. The woman who founded the company sold it to Mattel in 1998.

They will be happy to ship to you for a reasonable price. Just make sure you tell them you want US made.
What I found was this:
http://www.liveandlearn.com/gotz/index.html
They’re called Precious Day dolls by the parent company, Gotz, that created the American Girl dolls. I don’t know a thing about the company or it’s policies. I had bought some for my nieces and they look exactly like the Am Girl dolls and were much cheaper and I though better made. This was about 5 years ago so I don’t know if anything has changed and I don’t know where they’re manufactured.
Thanks!
God bless you and your family, especially through the Christmas season.

I think the doll I was thinking of was produced by a Christian company. I don’t think that the Precious Day dolls are the ones, but I tried googling it and could not come up with anything else.
Googling *American Girl doll alternatives* produced more results.
Here is what I think is the one I remember:

It’s also endorsed by Concerned Women for America:

There’s a site called *Goodasyou* that you do NOT want to visit. It’s not porn or anything but a very anti-Christian, pro gay/bi/trans site. YUCK!
No I won't be going there..Yikes, I can't handle the gay stuff this early! Thanks for the info. ~Pandy~
It actually took me a couple minutes of reading to figure it out because the focus of the page is on the dolls. It’s more in the fine print and sidebars kind of thing.
My daughter just returned a ...child's broom!
..and they happily refunded her....(probably got it at ToysRUs.
The original store in Chicago is a real trip, but at this time of year, as I learned by going there with my wife, this store off Michagan Avenue can give a guy a heart attack. Wall to wall, girls, teens, moms and grandmothers, shoulder to shoulder, with an actual line que outside to even get in the three story store.
While we do have three grand daughters, the dolls, their clothes and furniture and other doll series are really a hobbey for my wife. She gets as much satisfaction out of crafting things for this doll collection as she gets from seeing a Democrat loose an election.
My kids liked the boxes the best. Aside from Duplos, the thing they got the most enjoyment out of was when we got a new appliance and we could make another box house.
Books are great. When you find something they’re really interested in, they’ll spend hours buried in a book. It’s great for winter or a rainy day.
I like Sassy to use her imagination & with all my children I've encouraged reading. I always pushed reading the book if there was one before going to a movie. They seemed to like the book better then the movie.
That’s cause the books are always better than the movies.
Everyone who makes a movie seems to somehow think that they can do a better job with the story by changing it they way they think it’s better. How arrogant. They ruined LOTR, IMO. Narnia was surprisingly true to the book. I hope they do as well with Prince Caspian.
That’s odd. You do know that you have to use a special brush on the AG dolls’ hair, don’t you?
My girls have had them for a couple years, and we often remark that the hair is wonderful.
No I didn’t, but I will get Sassy one asap. The problem I had was with the doll with the wavy hair. I take it you order it from American Doll? Thanks so much for the info...maybe we can fix her hair without sending her back for new hair.
