Ice Storm '07
All American Blogger ^ | 12/11/07 | Duane Lester

Posted on 12/11/2007 7:35:08 AM PST by Bodhi1

Here are a few photos from around my place.

This is the top of a chain link fence gate. It shows how much ice has accumulated on the trees around here.

This is a fence post on my property. I thought it was an interesting photo.

An early morning shot of my east pasture. Kinda creepy, but beautiful.

My wife took this photo and I thought it was pretty cool looking.

Ice has pretty much coated everything here.

Here's another shot of the barbed wire. I like this one, especially because of the mist coming off the ice.

This tree has weathered the weather very well and makes a nice photo.

This one...not so much. You can see the damage to the tree scattered around its base.

Here in the KCMO area, schools are closed but I haven’t heard of any power outages. It came down mostly as rain thanks to George Bush and global warming.

Damn Global Warming....

Without Global Warming, this ice storm (frozen rain) would have generated 10 feet of beautiful snow!

Awesome photos! Though I have lived in South Florida for 30 years, I spent my youth in the midwest, and I do miss the cold weather. I make it a point to vacation somewhere in the snow, every 2 years or so.

Today, we have temperatures in the low 80's... sigh..

Here in the KCMO area, schools are closed but I haven’t heard of any power outages.

To your west, Kansas State University is closed today during finals week. It is closed due to a mixture of icy roads and power outages. Thankfully, I gave my only final exam yesterday so I don't have to deal with make-up days.

The pictures are beautiful. You have to marvel at the beauty, even though we know how destructive the storms can be. I hope all is well with you and yours and that you have heat and power until the temps warm a bit and provide some relief.

The last time we had storms like that here (in SE Pa.), was back in 1994. We didn’t lose power but the roads were impassable..one storm after another for a few weeks.

We're getting our butts handed to us here in Leavenworth. It's supposed to hit again this evening. A falling branch took out my A/C. Just took the day off to wait for the rest of the tree to come down on my kitchen. What fun. Here in North Central Illinois, schools are also closed. It was slushy this a.m. when the wife left for work 24 miles away. But it’s supposed to get worse as the day goes on. She packed for overnight in case she has to stay at an old neighbor’s house near work. On top of 6” of snow, it could become real interesting real fast.

What’s also interesting is that most stores are out of salt, even rock salt for softeners. I picked some up on Saturday, fortunately, but even then the skid was almost empty. People have been using it to counter the repeated storms we’ve had even before this one.

Global warming? Yeah, sure!

We here in Kentucky can sure relate to what you in the ice-ravaged areas are going thru. We had a devastating icestorm about 4 years ago, miles and miles of trees down, wires, etc. Folks were in their homes trying to keep warm with what they could find, others went to hotels and family out of town, it was a horrible mess. Our prayers are with those without power. It will take awhile but things will go back to normal.

FoxNews was reporting this morning that Oklahoma had 600,000 homes without electricity.

That would mean most of Oklahoma.

Overnight, temps rose some, so the streets/roadways began to clear.

Northern Missouri is reporting up to 1” of ice.

Tell the New York Times, it's time to switch back to GLOBAL COOLING again.

They will soon. The scientists who study the sun have issued an "All Quiet Alert", and solar cycle 25 is late starting. If this continues, we could have some very cold weather ahead of us.

Don't tell the bozos down in Bali, but humans don't control the climate on earth. The sun does. Duh.

Nice. I miss ice storms; instead of your house shaken apart or blown away, just stay home and enjoy the scenery. Recall one storm a few years ago: middle of the night, totally quiet ... except for the constant sound of branches cracking in the woods. And another: the valley flooded, froze, then receeded ... horizontal sheets of ice hanging off trees at the same 3 foot height (rather surreal).

Don’t get that here in GA (mid-70s today).

Wow. Great photos. We can't use our front door because the steps and walk are a sheet of ice. I had to pour bucket after bucket of hot water on the deck and steps (it's a full flight), then dry it all with towels so that the dogs can get down to the yard.

We're expecting more freezing rain tonight.

My parents (age 89 and 84) are in a retirement home in Owasso.

Baptist Village.

They are also without power. The staff moved all the residents to the nursing home where there are backup generators.

We have heard from then (Thank God for cell phones) but I’m still worried.

Prayers, please?

LOL

Huckabee, Romeny and Edwards are all stranded — outside of Iowa. They were on their way to Iowa to campaign, but they all got diverted.

Huckabee is in Nebraska.
