As American Christians find themselves threatened by such attacks today and in the future, it's time for them to begin thinking and praying about how they should prepare.
Should the defense of the innocent be left to others?
Is the defense of the faithful the sole responsibility of government?
What does the Bible say about the right and duty of armed self-defense?
Thank God for that young heroine in Colorado Springs.
Thank God Charl Van Wyk was armed that day in South Africa.
Thank God there are responsible Christians in the world who won't permit the slaughter of believers at the hands of a few haters.

"Next time you go to church, pack your Bible
and your gun."
For the love of God and for the sake of every God-fearing person in the world, follow it!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
This is why I avoid them.
Avoid what?
Church’s are gun free zones in some states.
This is what saved lives during the St James Church Massacre near Cape Town in 1993 when a member of the congregation shot back at the attackers who were shooting & killing members of the congregation.
Who is they?
There's a full moon out tonight
And it's shining down on me
And in that purest light
Any fool could see
That this highway is paved with sorrow
And every mile is lined with pain
And when the sun comes up tomorrow
You'll be just as far away
Now I hear her whisper soft and low
Through every mile I run
As I travel through this world of woe
With a Bible and a gun
If a man was made to suffer
I'm a mighty man I know
From one heartache to another
I've been burnin' down this road
I've got one eye on the mirror
And one eye on the line
The end keeps growin' nearer
The past slips behind
I don't mean to hurt nobody
I don't mean to do no wrong
But somethin' out there's got me
And it's pulling me along
Darkness is my shelter
Emptiness my light
And stranger, heaven help you
If our paths cross tonight
My entire state is a gun free zone.
Illinois - No concealed carry.
My church is protected.
On a side-note, I also personally know of two public school classrooms in my area that are protected - the teachers are licensed for concealed carry, and they conceal very well. They flout the potentially life-ending rules about gun-free zones to protect the children that are in their care. God bless them!
I feel your pain in Wisconsin.
I was trying to remember the other state that was as bad as Illinois. Thanks for the reminder neighbor.
Very nice thread/article..thank you.
That's a tough pill to gag down.

You know, I think we’ll see at least a temporary reduction in the number of copycat instances following the Colorado Springs outcome. We saw something similar after the Texas tower incident and after the SLA shootout. These things don’t like quite as attractive to the fame-seeking whacko once one of them has had an outcome like this one had.
It’s still a dangerous world out there, though, and the non-whacko mass murdering population will still be active.
Yeah, and you keep exporting all your violent gang members to MN. Quit it! It’s ridiculous the number of Illinois thugs that are sitting in our jails right now.
Revenge! I was in Minnesota once in the summer time with my sons camping. You have mosquitos there as big as horses.
There's a solution. Feed the prisoners to the mosquitos.
You are a far better man than I am, as I seriously doubt that I could live in a no carry state.
I don’t carry all the time and not nearly as often I perhaps should, but when I want to, I am going to.
I’m not much interested in taking a gun to church.
If “they” shot up my church, I’d probably die while charging the shooter in an attempt to protect others.
I prefer to look at it as our own brand of "Don't ask, don't tell"... $;-)
That makes 2 of us.
It makes me wonder what OTHER RIGHTS they're denying their citizens.
1 Timothy 5:8 - But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Luke 22:36
Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
As long as no one here at work takes too close a look at my laptop bag, I’m good...
Was once a member of a very hard core Presbyterian church. Our positions on abortion and homosexuality were such that we routinely got hate male.
At every service, a good friend packed a Colt Model 1911 in his waistband and was a crack shot.
I ALWAYS made sure he was between my family and the front door.
Shoot back, in spite of the law.
Knock yourself out, then. Your fake heroism will ultimately be futile.
I still have the day planner that I converted several years ago to look like a Bible cover that holds my M1911A1 or Taurus PT99 comfortably. I do not like carrying off my body, but at times like summer when a light shirt and khaki pants are the norm it works fine. Right now with cool weather I use my normal carry method, and have started carrying a BU, something I did not do for many years.
They better not come in my church. We have a few surprises for them.
Me neither. OTOH, every time I go to my synogogue I carry concealed. So do lots of other congregants, including one who is ex-Israeli special forces (this guy is a human bear and knows martial arts - I wouldn't want to mess with him if I had a loaded and cocked 12 gauge and he was unarmed). I go shooting regularly with our rabbi, and he has a carry license (IOW, there's more than a sermon on the shelf in the pulpit).
Gun free zones - be they houses of worship, shopping malls, schools, government offices, post offices, etc. simply tell the nuts and criminals where they'll have the greatest opportunity for success along with the least risk of being hurt and/or caught. I try to avoid those places at all costs - they don't deserve my business. But at least in my synogogue I can feel at ease doing what I'm supposed to do there - concentrate on my prayers.
I live in South Texas, where it gets *just a bit* warm in the summer (summer being defined as any time between March 15 and October 15). I like to carry a .45 IWB, but as you say it isn't always very comfortable. That's why I got a S&W 642 (a 5-shot revolver) and a pocket holster. No, .38 +P doesn't have the stopping power of .45 Hydrashok, but between it and nothing, I'll take it in a heartbeat. Further, I've Crimson Trace laser grips for this gun, so a perp/nut/terrorist will get very noticeable red dot on their chest in the second or two prior to receiving a donation of 135 grains of copper-jacketed lead (or 5 such donations - like Santa, I always try to tailor my gifts to the particular recipient depending on how deserving they are).
Drawing from a day planner seems a bit cumbersome, whereas from the pocket holster it is very quick. The holsters almost all come with velcro or something rough on the outside, so that they stay in the pocket when you draw the gun.
I always carry my Sig P226 9mm and a spare mag and sit in the rear of the sanctuary on an aisle. I read the book that resulted from the terror attack on the church in South Africa. Prior to that, I had been carrying my S&W M642 in a pocket holster. After reading the book and reflecting on the likelihood of an AQ style attack on the houses of worship of their enemies (a tactic employed by the enemy throughout history) I decided that serious times call for serious guns.
My wife knows exactly what to do in such a situation. She knows how to take cover and she knows the difference between cover and concealment. She also knows that I will respond according to my own training and experience.
I live in South Florida, which in itself is a high value terrorist target for the two numerically large populations we have that the muslims hate more than any other type of infidel: Jews and Gays. When ground operations begin as the next step of the AQ attack on American soil, I fully expect a frontline to be activated here in Miami. The Pastor is the shepherd of his flock of Christian sheep. I'm one of the SHEEP DOGS.
What do you think?

I was impressed to learn that New Life Church has an evac plan that had been activated during the event.
I had a conversation last night with one of our elders about that very thing. We have a real small church but should have such a plan. In addition, several of us have CCW’s and we also have a SF guy and a federal agent among our members.
I don’t carry often but will be starting to.
By the way...what does your screen-name mean? I’ve always took it to be a foreshortened form a “Ancestral Hunter”. Is that correct?
Ancestor Hunter. I do a lot of genealogical research on my family...i.e. hunting for my ancestors.
Oh, and I don’t wish to join my ancestors too quickly, so I carry a gun (just to keep it related to this story).
Officially, yes.
Practically, no.
If they shot up my church, Id probably die while charging the shooter in an attempt to protect others.
I vaguely remember a discussion with a fellow that would not buy a gun for home defense, but if he was ever in the position to use force to defend his home he would use a golf club.
The real issue for him is not that force is bad (he'll use a gun), but that guns are icky and evil and should be avoided at all costs.
Similarly you are willing to use force to defend others, but you won't take a gun to church. I don't get it.
I’m not sure about that. Those incidents occurred in 1966 and 1974. The culture of hate has changed significantly since then. Not to mention the threat of international terrorism.
we have security at my church...
I have very much confidence in them.
Our church has a unifomred, armed, county deputy posted near the door of our church. I used to wonder why.
