WHILE most were asleep, we've walked to the brink of yet another war in the Balkans.
Kosovo is a part of Serbia. That's a legal and political fact.
It wants to break away and appears to have secured British and American agreement, but not, alas, the agreement of either Serbia, whose land it is, or Russia, which will veto any breakaway in the UN.
The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) rules the roost and has said it will make a unilateral declaration of independence soon. The Serbs cannot allow Kosovo, sacred to their orthodox Christian heritage for 1000 years, to go without a fight.
Serbia, with Russian help, outguns the KLA, who can only fight with outside help. That's where we come in.
In the Nineties, we provided the air force for the breakaway KLA, branded as late as 2000 by the US as a "terrorist organisation". But this time we would have to be their infantry as well.
Fancy another war, anyone?
And Serbia is not the only place where there is a substantial Albanian minority.
One quarter of the former Yugoslavian republic of Macedonia is Albanian. They want independence too.
And 50 per cent of Bosnia-Herzegovina is Serb. If Kosovo declares independence, so might the Bosnian-Serbs. Then we will be back in the bloody Balkan wars.
Moreover, the principle that astate can be dismembered against its will is pregnant with problems all over the world.
The Kurdish people are 20 million strong in Turkey and would like to break away. Would we fight for them? Of course not.
Which goes to show the hypocrisy which has accompanied the break-up of Yugoslavia all along.
Lord George "Bomber" Robertson was one of the chief propagandists for the last Kosovo war. You will remember his sonorous claim that the Serbs had murdered 100,000 Albanians and we must act.
In fact, 3000 people died, less than the death toll in Northern Ireland, and picture if you will the outrage in Britain if the US Air Force had started bombing us over that. No one knows how many of the 3000 were Albanians or Serbs, or who killed them and how.
Kosovo is a garrison for foreign soldiers, and at the same time Europe's major hub for gun-running, drugsmuggling, people-trafficking and prostitution.
If it becomes independent onthe point of our bayonets, don't say you weren't warned.
'In the Nineties, we provided the air force for the KLA. This time we would have to be their infantry as well'
Sadly, they are, although Bush, for whom I've lost almost all respect, is proving almost as inept as Clinton. The only silver lining to all this is that it might finally spell an end to his fantasy about Daddy's "new world order".
Yep, it's time to pull out all those "stopped clock" and "bland squirrel" axioms.
If a well-known Muslim sympathizer and all-around moonbat like George Galloway recognizes that handing Kosovo over to the Jihadist KLA is a bad idea, why the hell are we supporting the Jihadists?
Russia is in a much better position to get involved on the Side of Serbia than it was in the 90’s, I dont see us getting involved this time around.
yep...sad isn’t it?
our whole Balkans expedition has been 95% politically correct and 100% anti-Christian
which is par for the course today
Yes, he is, but, in this case he is right, because he's disecting the problems that were caused by OUR leftist maniacs, the Clintons!
I'm sure George Galloway says the sun comes up in the East. Do you disagree with his assessment in that case?
The only solution to resolve this issue is that The United States back off from providing support to Islamofascists and respect the international law.
With support to terrorism in Kosovo, American war on terror is a joke.
I don’t disagree with your analysis, I just think that the Europeans should be fighting this one without help from the US. Let the Euros at least protect their own homeland. They won’t help out in Iraq or Afghanistan.
So, let 'em fight, then.
I had to reread this article. I couldn’t beleive it myself that it was penned by THE George Galloway.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
Who knows. Tyrants need such a campaign to rally their people behind them.
Unfortunately, I think Galloway’s right (about an upcoming bloodbath).
In the past two or three centuries Europe averaged one major war every 20 or so years. There’s been 63 years since the last big one. Odds are that time is running out.
The Serbs have been neutered by their recent defeats, militarily speaking, and being surrounded by NATO States or NATO candidate States doesn't really help matters, as far as their being able to recreate the vast arsenals of military stores which fueled Serbia's recent military misadventures.
So while they or their booster club can talk a mean fight, they're pretty much all hat and no cattle at this point.
Did you have anything adverse to say about the message?
And it’s “blind”. I hear that squirrel is really pretty gamy, and not bland at all. Don’t know from personal experience.
If Nato and the US attack Serbia again, then they must also bomb France, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona and California.
Do it as a concerned individual. Do it as a caring American citizen. Supporting terrorists like the KLA is not serving America well. This policy of cleansing Serbs of their homelands is not representative of the American people.
Americans should not let they government aid in the complete extinction of Christianity in Kosovo. Do not allow Muslim tyranny to take over. Say no to greater Albania. Albania who is responsible for at least 10% of the heroin in the United States.
Thank you and mega dittos. I’m not in favor of giving back our Southwest to Mexico and I damn sure ain’t in favor of giving anything to Islam except a frigging bullet. The Treaty of Versailles continues to be a disaster almost 100 years later. No any historic short term effort comes to mind where nomadic backwardass tribes were turned into nation states. At least not until the indian casino was invented in the US. Hmmm—maybe casinos in Mecca?
