Chill out. Posters are making intelligent observations and asking questions. I don’t see any “jackals.”
The narrative she offers on her super-spiffy little website is full of strangeness. We are pointing out her own words, such as her claim that she was placed in an all-male barracks and her casual reference to “socializing” with at least 4 male firefighters at one time. Then there is the story about Army doctors handing their findings over to KBR, and that disappears. The Army must have kept their own record of the evidence, if there was any. Right?
I noticed she wrote a lot about her anguish over her damaged breast implants. I find that interesting for several reasons. Why did she set up a “foundation” that solicits donations? What is that about?
As for Rep. Ted Poe’s involvement, it is not an “intervention” on his part. The alleged victim’s family lives in his district in Texas and asked for his help. That is what congressmen do; they help their constituents when asked. I don’t see where Poe himself is claiming that she actually was raped. He is not a “witness” as another FReeper is claiming.
We are asking legitimate questions and sticking to facts as far as known. I am not purporting to know what did or did not happen, and see very few others who are. Those who want to believe her allegations are welcome to. I happen to think there is missing information, and some of what is presented is misinformation.
$100K payoff would be an admission of guilt, then the real money comes in from books, movies and speakers’ fees on celebrity tours circuit... And then, of course all that money that “non-profit foundation” will bring for lifetime.
$100K would be to make it easy to “just pay off”, “why fight”. It’s the bait. Once it’s bitten, expect also Congressional investigation into horrible conditions of women defending our country working for Halliburton and KBR in danger zones around the world. Just in time for an election, and “women’s vote”, with Jamie front and center...
Sorry to be cynical here, but her story makes little sense and that website couldn’t be written by an adult, even an IT professional one with breast implants.
Not that rapes don’t happen in those situations, but this one just screams “screenplay” and “fishy”. And we still only heard her side of the story.

You three should to compare notes, and let FR know what the underlying issues are with this case. If it’s indeed a shakedown, you may find yourselves in the position of the Swiftboat guys. My wife knows two people who were on base when this incident occurred. Apparently, it led to a alcohol ban that pissed everybody off and led to some hostile feelings towards Miss Leigh, who was under 21 and should not have been drinking in any case. She does believe she was raped though and keeps a close eye on any beverage because of it. The fact that KBR responded by banning alcohol indicates they that they thought there was something to the girl’s story. Whatever happened it needs to be worked out in criminal court, not some arbitration hearing where the main concern is CYA.
Well, the problem is there was really no civilian criminal jurisdiction over there at the time. In the summer of '05 everything was still under the military which left contractors out of their jurisdiction. The rules for contractors were mostly their obligations to their employers, their contract and the military.
General Order One was geared more towards not offending the Iraqis than anything else. Of course she violated that by drinking and would be grounds for dismissal. Her confinement could be viewed in that light although probably not the cause of it.
Essentially, the civil courts is the only recourse for her and it's quite difficult to move a civil case without a criminal case supporting it.
I can see why she went political and MSM as she needs some push to move her civil case(s) forward. It'll be messy and doesn't make KBR look good so I'd guess they'll settle out of court. Sounds like she never made it to the KBR housing office as they would have billeted her in a female area.
I think there's enough there and she's pretty enough for the media to make a feast of it (Abu-Gharib meets Natalie Holloway). I know some people in the IZ referred to KBR employees as "Carnies" as in carnival employees; an apparent allusion to their character. My impression is they were generally sub-standard and were prone to take advantage of a lack of management. Imo it was always a management issue, as in none present.
Even though KBR employees are at fault I believe KBR would be wise to settle post haste.

It was just an observation gunny. She doesn't sound desperate or angry, but I'm just a man so I can't really know how a rape victim should sound. She wants to be a "voice,...pushing for change" and it just sounds fake to me. But like I said, I'm just a man, so what do I know?
