CODE PINK'S MANIPULATION OF THE MEDIA

CODE PINK'S MANIPULATION OF THE MEDIA.

Code Pink's leader, Medea Benjamin, was arrested in Pakistan and deported. She claims that she was abused by the Pakistani police, but her claims are just more staged media manipulation from a master manipulator.

Arrest Not Spontaneous

The arrest of Medea Benjamin in Pakistan was not a spontaneous event even though, at first glance, it may appear that way. It was timed to coincide with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearings on U.S. funding for Pakistan. The hearing, which was scheduled for Dec. 6, was advertised well in advance of that date (See Schedule of Hearings for 110th Congress).

Medea Benjamin, along with Tighe Barry, went to Pakistan ten days in advance of the Dec. 6 hearing. They kept a low profile, meeting right up until the even of the hearing and then they pressed some really hot buttons in Pakistan to catch the attention of the authorities there and to get arrested.

They made sure that Code Pink had a Pakistan blog on it detailing this trip (See Code Pink's Pakistan Blog [Scroll down a few days to see it]). It is the only blog on their site that was closed to public comments. The reason why the blog was closed for public comment is that it was designed to be a press release, not a blog. Notice how each blog details the organization and refers to Benjamin as a "human rights activist."

They knew in order to get media attention they had to get arrested and detained in Pakistan. On the day the Senate hearings started here in the U.S. they did just that (See Article on Arrest). Did you notice how the article refers to Benjamin, coincidentally as a "human rights activist?" Even before she got on the plane back to the U.S. Benjamin was on the telephone with the Washington Times telling them, she was "mistreated" and "terrorized" by the Pakistanis. She made it really dramatic by adding "I thought she was going to die (See Article)." Apparently, she felt that at a time when Pakistan was seeking money from the U.S. that they were going to kill one of its citizens.

Code Pink's media spokesperson, Dana Balacki, was ready to give a salivating press all the lurid details of Medea Benjamin's claims that she was abused by the Pakistani authorities. She claimed they pointed a gun at her in a car that was transporting her and described her experience as "terrifying." All of these details were fed to the press. The media in San Francisco really ate it up and even did a photo montage of the many faces of Medea Benjamin (See Article).

Within two hours of landing back in the U.S., Tighe Barry, one of the few Code Pink members allowed in Senate hearings because of his lack of a significant arrest record, rushed to the Senate and disrupted the hearing on, you guessed it, funding for Pakistan (See Washington Times Article). He was arrested a will appear in court later this month.

Staged and Planned Events Designed to Look Spontaneous

The actions of Code Pink are staged and planned. Nothing is spontaneous when it comes to Code Pink. It is all designed to manipulate a naive media who reports it to an even more naive public that thinks all of these events just happened out of the blue. If you buy that, I will sell you a bridge in Brooklyn! This was nothing more than a staged event to get some ink the only way Code Pink knows how and to undermine U.S. relations with Pakistan at a crucial time by staging an event to insure bad press.

The press is so naive to believe that this was all spontaneous. The communists in Cuba taught Medea well! To link to the articles go to the original URL.

Yes, it would be a real shame if she'd been roughed up by the Pakistani police. Just a real shame.

Interesting, very interesting, and certainly persuasive.

I wonder if Medea knows who she was named after? Maybe her real name is Media. And her middle initial is M, for Media Manipulation.

Medea and Tighe? Why do liberals always have such weird names?

They were not abused by the Paki police. They were taken into an office, sat down, and asked questions which they refused to answer. The pinkos are just trying to create a sob story to gain sympathy.

From John Murtha, Hero of the war protestors-Washington Post March 22, 2007

Gruff, jowly John Murtha wouldn't seem to be a Code Pink kinda guy...

But there the congressman was, in a Rayburn House Office Building hallway, gallantly protecting some war protesters from the group who had been tossed out of a hearing room and threatened with arrest.

"He said 'I know these people,' he gave me his hand and said we wouldn't be arrested," said Medea Benjamin, a San Francisco human rights activist who was doing her earnest best Tuesday to end the war when her lobbying methods provoked the displeasure of the U.S. Capitol Police. Code Pink ladies on one side; uniforms on the other. In the middle, the impressive bulk of 74-year-old Murtha. He called the sergeant at arms and didn't leave until he was assured the women would be released, Benjamin said.

"He's one of the most principled people I have ever met," said Benjamin of the Pennsylvania Democrat. "I don't know about the past. I'm sure there's plenty I wouldn't like. I'm sure there's plenty about his present record I wouldn't like. But I really respect his position on this issue. And today, he stood up for us."

"It is all designed to manipulate a naive media who reports it to an even more naive public..."

The media isn't naive. You can't manipulate a media that is dominated by lefties to give the lefties a pass. That's not manipulation, that collaboration. And the public isn't so naive, they don't believe the media stunt with the NIE and they could care less about Code Pink.

It's not as bleak as you think.

It seems she's never seen the FBI-ABSCAM sting video starring Fat Jack Murtha, of course in Medea's eyes that video probably makes him a hero. Partners in crime and their victim is our country.

Your consistent declaration of CODE PINK'S MANIPULATION OF THE MEDIA is already old.

The abuse started when their parents gave them those names!

I don't know about Tighe, but Medea Benjamin gave herself that name when she was 18 or so. Her parents had named her Susan.

During the first few weeks of the over 2 and 1/2 year long FReepers' counter to Code Pink at Walter Reed (latest report is here), Medea told us how she came to adopt the name of a character from a Greek play.

The character in the play is a mother known for killing her own children, but Medea claimed to have read an alternate version of the play where the woman did not kill her children.

(Ironically, a young woman, whom Medea had mentored into the hate-America far left, was killed by allies of Medea in Iraq shortly before our encounter with Medea. Medea referred to the woman as being "like a daughter to me," whereas we wondered whether Medea's money, as donated to the enemy, bought the IED that killed her "daughter?" Did Medea, like her Greek inspiration, kill her "daughter," albeit indirectly?)

You can read about the encounter with Medea and listen to a sound file of her name explanation on this thread, as kristinn and I talk with her:

For the forth time in just over 4 weeks, DC Chapter FReepers conducted a FReep of Code Pink's anti-war protest at the gate of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where many of the most severely wounded troops from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are taken for continued treatment and rehabilitation. The FReep of the leftists' obscene blood dance was on the Friday night, April 29.

Shades of those “useful idiot” Lefties back in the 80’s that would go down into places like Honduras and El Salvador, stir up a bunch of sh*t to get themselves arrested, have the State Department go bail their a**es out and return to the US to “heroes” welcomes, interviews on GMA and Today and speaking tours of various college campuses.

Remember murtha and all the retired generals?

I'm talking to a retired three-star general, and … he said to me that he was in a room full of Navy officers, all different specialties. One of them was a ship driver; in other words, he was captain of a ship. They had mobilized him to go to Iraq to do civil affairs, in two weeks. He said the whole room was not trained to do the job.

Now, what does it mean when they're not trained. This war is coming at a huge consequence, the unspoken consequence of an overstretched and overstressed force. And when you send in untrained people, you get Abu Ghraib.

I've told the story about the young person from my district who was untrained in that prison, who had a court order against him that he was not able to (see) his family because he abused them. He told the Army that, and the Army still put him in a position to oversee Abu Ghraib. And you know the tremendous impact this had on our troops.

And anybody that's been in combat knows it sears your soul, it's something that you never forget, and you live with it for the rest of your life…

Now, two days after I made my statement, on November 19th, we had an incident in Haditha in Anbar province, where a Marine was killed with an IED. Time magazine reported it, and it's kind of a puzzling report, because they're investigating it right now. Let me tell you what the consequences of this have been.

It's much worse than reported in Time magazine. There was no fire fight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood. And that's what the report is going to tell.

Now, you can imagine the impact this is going to have on those troops for the rest of their lives and for the United States in our war and our effort in trying to win the hearts and minds.

While most Generals and Admirals do not get involved in the political fray ...

I was honored to be invited to a luncheon at the Home of the Commandant of the Marine Corps in the spring of 2006 ( I typed a "tear and a half ago" instead of a "year and a half", and that's about right). Silke Hagee sat in the Commandant's seat, and I in her chair. During the course of the visit, it became evident that the political pressure in the position of Commandant was somewhat oppressive, shall we say? Or perhaps even offensive to Gen. Hagee?.

I am not astute enough to say who gets involved, how it works out and who has what to gain. I know it's a mess and I don't like it. All these bastards are supposed to work for you and me.

Yeah...riiiiight! Someone needs to advise them of that one day.

The fact is, MOST Generals don't get involved in the mess once they retire. Which tells me there is more to this than meets the eye. This is unprecedented as far as I know. I think they are being used to capitalize on the publics overwhelming support of the Military. JMHO.

Thanks for sharing that with us. I’m sure there’s much political pressure on high ranking Generals and Admirals and I believe the best of them don’t let it influence decisions that affect the men and women. From what little I know of General Hagee he’s a good man.

I also believe that statement was true in saying “most” don’t get involved in the political frays, even after retirement. The ones that do are to be scrutinized closely, IMO.
