NBC has rejected a TV ad by Freedom's Watch, a conservative group that supports administration policy in Iraq, that asks viewers to remember and thank U.S. troops during the holiday season.
NBC said it declined to air the ad because it refers to the group's Web site, which the network said was too political, not because of the ad's message.
"Anybody in the world who would look at this ad would come away with nothing other than we should thankful for their service," Freedom's Watch president Brad Blakeman said.
The spot was to be part of a seven-figure campaign that includes newspaper ads and television commercials. The ads are to run on CNN and Fox News Channel and are running in various newspapers. The New York Times ran a full-page Freedom's Watch ad Friday that said "Thank You!" and depicted a soldier reading a letter. The newspaper ad also contained the Web site address.
Alan Wurtzel, NBC's head of standards and practices, said the network decided not to run the Freedom's Watch ad because the group insisted that the spot contain the URL address of its Web site.
The Freedom's Watch Web home page contains links for visitors to demonstrate their support for the troops. It also contains a welcoming message that states: "For too long, conservatives have lacked a permanent political presence to do battle with the radical special interests groups and their left-wing allies in government."
"We have a policy that prohibits acceptance of advertising that deals with issues of public controversy," Wurtzel said.

"It's a long-term policy, it goes back decades," Wurtzel said of NBC's stance of declining controversial issue advertising.

Of all the MSM, I think NBC and PMSNBC have been the worst.
I reject NBC for being too political, with my remote control
The Left supports the troops, they just think it’s going to far, getting too political, to actually thank the troops for their service.
The Moveon/ Media Matters Network reject a Pro America/ Pro Troops ad?
I’m shocked, I tell ya!
The same network on which Mutt Lauer suggests cop-killer Mumia may be innocent.
NBC is the enemy.
Supporting our troops is controversial according to this guy??! What a whacko.
I guess they'll be turning away all campaign ads this election cycle.
And by "too political" they mean "too conservative". Thanks, peacocks!
NBC = Nothing But Commies
Put the ad on Fox or other cable news... no one with a brain watches NBC, ABC, or C—>BS anyway.
So airing an add that thanks our Troops fighting the WOT and US interests IS controversial. Making a public statement that they will not air the ad that thanks the Troops IS NOT controversial to them. Am I reading that right?
"NBC said it declined to air the ad because it refers to the group's Web site, which the network said was too political, not because of the ad's message."
But Moveon.org adds are OK for NBC.
Obscene, but after reviewing their schedule, all Ill miss is Jay Leno.
The same network that brings us the Uber-politically correct anti-family pro homosexual “ER.”
You can see an NBC station directory here.
I wish they would apply this mentality to all those lame-arsed public services ads. I am so sure seeing some hollyweird bum telling parents not to abuse their kids or d o not drink and drive makes a difference.
This is your brain, this is your brain on NBC...
What’s this ‘NBC’ thing, anyway?
It only makes sense - it gives them more time to air those tired, repetitive, unfunny ‘coach’s interview’ spots for horse **** posing as beer.
Yes, and that's precisely why they don't want this. Freedom's Watch, which ran the defending General Petraeus, was organized as a 501(c)(4) to provide moveon with competition from the right. Took too long, but they're well funded and run.
We need to say it. The left wants more and more troops to die so they can blame Bush and advance their agenda.
They Suck!
Worth repeating!!!
‘You may want to make your opinions known to your local NBC affiliate. They have much more influence with the network than any individual, and they tend to care about their viewers’ opinions — especially when there is the threat of boycotts by organizations such as veterans groups.’
Way to go, prove Bill O’Reilly right - NBC News has really go so far left that it’s now in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
I’m ssssoooo ticked. Our office watches NBC’s daily market & business reporting. It seems like every other day the hildebeast’s mug is shown and have this morally-corrupt, ethically-challenged POS giving her views on various issues, especially permitting to say how good her administration was before Prez started his tenure. Some months ago I called and spoke with an NBC rep in CA complaining that out of all the senators on Capitol Hill NBC couldn’t find a non-presidential candidate to get his/her views. Why give this woman (I use the term loosely) free air time for furtherance of her campaign? Naturally, I didn’t receive any response. The NBC rep just listened to my complaint. NBC is doing it’s level best to get a RAT as prez. Dangnabit!
I'm sure it is NBC's long term policy. They probably rejected similar ads thanking troops for their service in Viet Nam.
It’s time to threaten licenses.
What do we have to lose?
There a friggin’ arm of the Democrat party; they need to be broken up. imo
Yet they refuse ads glorifying our Heroes fighting the war on evil.
Color me outraged!
The NBC rep just listened to my complaint. NBC is doing its level best to get a RAT as prez. Dangnabit!
Why I don’t do business with GE. Rockwell Automation (a.k.a. Allen Bradley) has a lot of good conservative ties. Much better products as well.
I couldn’t find contact info for GE’s president but here is their eMail feedback form:

And here is our eMail to GE:
Re:
“NBC Refuses to Air Ads Thanking Troops Over Holidays”.
We and our family have had enough of NBC and by extension, GE.
NBC’s smug unpatriotic posture has become unbearable and this last snub of American patriots pushes us over the line.
We have had enough.
As long as NBC persists in its blatant anti-Americanism no television in our homes will ever be again be tuned to NBC, MSNBC or any station or program connected with NBC or GE.
And no one in our family will ever again purchase any product manufactured by GE or connected within GE.
We will also pressure representatives in our state and in the US congress and senate to eliminate GE from consideration of any government contracts or business relationships from now on.
We will also actively recruit relatives, neighbors and friends to do the same.
Perhaps someday GE and NBC will come to their senses and stop abusing and looking down on the very Americans who are the source of their success.
Until that happens we remain too disgusted to support either company in any fashion.
Get them to heck out of my ocean....out of my country...off of my planet!
Mhking, legendary FReeper’s uncle works for our NBC station here in Detroit.
I think my station already knows.
IM, I liked your email so much, I used it to email under my name to GE also.
Thanks.
With a lead in that says, The Commercial banned by NBC
bump
MSDNC Anti American all the time.
General Electric which owns 82% of this scuzzy network needs to be given a message.
Maybe these guys can generate some free publicity from this.

Nope, nothing political on NBC.
Let them die their ignominious death.
I’m not surprised that Nightly Broadcasting Communism did that.
I think sending mail to Jay Leno is an effective avenue.
MSLSD has other programming to run, 35 hours of Global Warming propoganda and the General Betray Us ads don’t leave the time to run your ads.
