OMAHA, Neb., Dec 5 (Reuters) - A 19-year-old man killed eight people and then himself with an assault rifle at a busy mall in Omaha on Wednesday, sending terrified workers and Christmas shoppers scrambling for cover.
"Now I will be famous," the gunman wrote in a suicide note, his landlady told CNN after finding a three-part document that she said included his will.
Police declined to discuss the contents of the note.
Five people were wounded, two of them critically, in the early afternoon rampage in the Midwestern U.S. city. Most of the victims at the upscale Westroads Mall were shot inside the Von Maur department store near the children's clothing area.
"It was horrible, just horrible," one woman told local television station KETV, saying she hid under a rack of clothes when the gunfire started.
The Nebraska shooting was the latest in a series of mass killings that have shocked the United States, where gun ownership is widespread and the right to bear arms is a fiercely contested constitutional issue.
The White House said it was a "terrible tragedy."

Good grief. The story makes it sound like all gun owners re just waiting for a chance to go mall shooting.
There is no joy in travisville tonight, a guy named Jose did not commit the atrocity that happened in Omaha today.

Our country has a definite cultural issue with this. You almost never hear about this sort of thing in Europe. Yes, there was a shooting in Finland recently, but you have to go back years before you can find anything else.
A very tragic day. And a knot in the stomach and a lifetime of visions for all who survived, as well...
On another note in the TX shooting where the neighbor shot dead 2 illegals , they were from Columbia & had criminal backgrounds. One had even been deported & again illegally entered this country. I hope they give that man a medal.

It was an SKS, only an assault rifle to the morons pushing an anti-gun program like Reuters and their fellow travelers. I don’t expect another “assault” gun ban push this close to elections, but I’ll bet ammo supplies tighten further than they already have.
Two down - what a hero! I hope he doesn’t face any repercussions for protecting his own life (and that of his family from the illegal aliens.)
This past weekend in another mall in Omaha my club held a gun show...hundreds of guns and ya know what not one shooting...ya gun culture-BAD.../s
How did you figure out his political ideology was a race war (Whatever that means)? I didn’t see any indication of that. Do you have some information we don’t because I surely saw nothing that would indicate that?
