West Bend - As readers of a conservative blog debated the subject of teacher salaries, a writer using the pseudonym "Observer" weighed in.The West Bend teachers' salaries made him sick, the person wrote, adding that the 1999 Columbine High School killers had the right idea. "They knew how to deal with the overpaid teacher union thugs. One shot at a time! Too bad the liberls (sic) rip them; they were heros (sic) and should be remembered that way," the writer said. But police say the writer was a teacher himself - and the past president of a teachers union - apparently posing as a teacher-hater. James Buss was arrested Thursday by West Bend police, and the 46-year-old Cudahy man could face criminal charges. He has been suspended from his job as a teacher at Oak Creek High School.
Buss, a former president of the Oak Creek School District's teachers union, is on an indefinite leave of absence from the school pending further investigation, district Superintendent Sara Larsen said. He teaches chemistry and has been employed at the school since 1994....
But Owen Robinson, a West Bend resident and administrator of bootsandsabers.com - a collection of news and conservative commentary where the message was posted at 6:50 p.m. Nov. 16 - said Friday that it seemed that "Observer" was "posing as a conservative, right-wing whack job to discredit" the Web site's discussion of teachers' salaries....The blog discussion began when Robinson noted that the Journal Sentinel had an online database on teacher salaries at JSOnline.com....
A teacher employed by the West Bend School District read the message later that evening and immediately contacted School District administrators, West Bend police Capt. Toby Netko said....Buss was arrested Thursday and released from the Washington County Jail after posting $300 bail....

This is like the swastikas on black students’ doors. It always seems to turn out to be self-inflicted.
BTW, is one of the prerequisites to starting a conservative forum or blog include being named “Robinson”?
These nut will do anything. Having a lot of free time helps.
That stuff seems to happen here on FR, too.
how did they know it was him?
ping
Usually they get caught and called out. Zot.
Computers have addresses......Big Bro is watching, TASER at the ready...........
Not unlike the “questions” and questioners on the GOP-CNN Youtube debates.......
(The above quote has been approved by Dan 'fake but accurate' Rather.)
It looks to me like the idiot teacher can’t even spell! If a teacher actually posted that, he should be fired for being ignorant.
Most likely still being paid his "overpaid teacher union thugs" wage while on LOA.
Read the article. Moron posted from his home computer.
and they stand out like sore thumbs, too. DU types and other liberal whackjobs seem to think(?) that if you are going to pose as a conservative you must act like the parody of conservatives that Hollyweird has put in their empty little heads.......
Probably all part of the ruse, trying to show that conservatives are ignorant and stupid..........
It is all about group-ism and making yourself a victim.
i figured that, but you can’t just get someone’s IP. i guess the cops thought it was a direct threat and got a warrant. serves the guy right.
He was a teacher. That says it all...........
The guy should be fired but I’m a bit concerned that he was arrested.
I’m not sure where the line is between unpopular speech and a threat, but I would not call this a crime.
The article doesn’t say how they identified “Observer”, the teacher named James Buss.
“Netko said Buss posted the message from his home computer.”
How did they come to know that unless Owen Robinson, the site owner, gave the police an IP log of “Observer”? Owen Robinson states that the arrest was an over-reaction but there was no court order forcing him to turn over the IP record. And then of course, the teacher’s ISP would have to identify where that IP address led to.
All said, it’s obvious the teacher was a Class A troll trying to discredit a conservative website.
The following is the complete unedited message posted on bootsandsabers.com:
"Looking at those teacher salary numbers in West Bend made me sick. $60,000 for a part time job were (sic) you 'work' maybe 5 hours per day and sit in the teachers lunge (sic) and smoke the rest of the time. Thanks God we won on the referendum. But whining here doesn't stop the problem. Weve (sic) got to get in back of the kids who have had enough of lazy, no good teachers and are fighting back. Kids like Eric Harris and Dylen Klebold members of the Young Republicans club at Columbine. They knew how to deal with the overpaid teacher union thugs. One shot at a time! Too bad the liberls (sic) rip them; they were heros (sic) and should be remembered that way."
It looks like Owen used his ultimate ZOT on a troll!

Robinson also criticized Buss’ arrest as an overreaction.

Larsen, the Oak Creek superintendent, said she talked with Buss before his arrest Thursday. She declined to say whether Buss disclosed his motivation for the posting.

The referendum to which Buss is accused of referring to was Nov. 6. Voters in the West Bend School District defeated a $119.3 million school building referendum by a 62% to 37% margin.
Robinson, of bootsandsabers.com, opposed the referendum.

You gotta read between the lines.
Now that we know the deal, I wonder if the investigators would do us a favor and check his computer to see what his DailyKOS and DUmmie sign-on is.
Instead of putting this guy in jail, they should just turn him over to the conservative bloggers. It would save a lot of time and money, and real justice would be served.
The problem is, the press, including Fox News, is NOT highlighting the fact that this “teacher” was trying to undermine a conservative web site with his outlandish post. The teacher is a liberal engaging in dirty tricks, but that little factoid is studiously being covered up. (no pun intended).
Moderators and board owners can see the IP addy.
Many years later, it turns out that the two black firefights sent the stuff to themselves. There was no punishment for their action. Many years later in is exposed that this was known by the judge to be self inflicted hate crime prior to finding the department guilty of discimination and imposing the consent decree. It was also known by the Mayor and the congressman from that district. Since they were all good liberal democrats, they all felt that it was better to go ahead with the consent decree and keep the other information quiet.
Thank God we live in a democracy and our rights are protected by liberal democrats. (sarcasm off: Return to normal discussion)
I read the troll-post and cannot find a threat anywhere.
What law was broken? Doing a bad impression of a conservative?
That said, he was arrested for — being stupid? I hope this is not a progressing trend, the jails are already overcrowded.
See post 21. It is not unreasonable to construe from what he wrote that he is advocating a repeat of Columbine.
Thus dumbf**k gets arrested (for what?) but the despicable woman who drive a vulnerable teenager to suicide in Dardenne Prairie goes scotfree. Whatta country!
I most strongly disagree. First and foremost: Of the 34 only 1 teacher was killed and one was injured. Second, it's obvious to even the most unreasonable person the post was by a complete and utter troll, why else would there be a reference to the "young republicans" on a conservative board? I mention this because the troll seems to be implying the Columbine shooting was about the teacher's union...
The board this was posted on is a syndicated board, so it is fairly wide spread and read. How anyone could have seen this as anything but satire or more accurately parody is beyond me.
Do I believe this person should be locked up? No, not for being stupid. By your reasoning, every time someone invokes the name Columbine, it's the same thing as yelling "FIRE!!" in a crowded theater. I'm just not certain any reasonable person could have possibly believed the content was inciting violence against teachers - given the context.
Whatever.
