One would have to be blind not to see that California isnt the Golden State anymore. Every institution ranging from public education (of which I am a product) to health care is substandard. And why is that? The reasons are many and varied. But one of the reasons life has so dramatically changed in the United States is this countrys huge border problem. Our southern border with Mexico is wide open.
Take your pick of presidential administrations, from Nixon to Bush II, no president (excepting possibly second-term Reagan) has made the slightest sincere effort to secure and enforce our border with Mexico. As a result of this under-enforced border, combined with rampant political correctness, drugs and poverty have freely entered the United States. We are about to lose the United States of America to the Third World.
Do I believe this with all my heart and soul? Yes, I do believe this. Make no mistake, President George Bush, whom I voted for twice, is majorly responsible for not protecting our borders. President Bush, may I please have my two votes back?
Every day, as I drive to work up Lyons Avenue and north on San Fernando Road, I see the effects of this illegal invasion in our city. Men standing on corners, starting from 15th Street and San Fernando Road, for upwards of 1/2 mile. Standing in groups of two to six, these men are clustered together awaiting private or commercial vehicles to pick them up, hire them for the day. No taxes paid, no government withholding, no benefit whatsoever to the community other than to feed the avarice of unscrupulous employers, who suffer zero consequences from local, county, state, or federal law enforcement.
Do we have laws on the books to prevent this? Yes! Are those laws enforced? No! Some say, Whats the big deal? These men are just doing the jobs Americans wont do. Well, it is a big deal because many of these blue collar jobs were done by Americas middle class. And those laborers of yesteryear proportionately made more money relative to the economy.
Blue collar workers of the 50s and 60s bought houses and spent money, a lot of it, bolstering the economy. People who labored in construction, retail and related services were the backbone of the middle class. That group of men and women have all but disappeared, to be replaced by individuals who have entered the United States illegally, who speak little or no English. Many of these newly arrived illegal aliens disrespect America by using its social services without the thought of paying for anything, and shame on us for offering it. This behavior has caused great stress on our local economy and throughout California.
The problem is we have laws that are supposed to prevent this from happening, and those laws are simply not being enforced.
I became so fed up seeing this every day that I went to the Santa Clarita City Council in late August and, at open forum, addressed each and every council member and asked them to go on record opposing this illegal practice of hiring day laborers off the street, asking the council to direct the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department to enforce vehicle law and to contact Homeland Security to enforce federal immigration law.
These men are clearly standing under No Stopping Any Time signs. Employers in vehicles would pull up and pick up the necessary labor force to accomplish what they needed to do for the day. With the exception of Councilman Bob Kellar, each of the council members avoided answering this hot issue. Mayor Marsha McLean reminded me in a follow-up e-mail that immigration issues are a federal matter and suggested I contact Congressman Buck McKeon or my two U.S. senators.
I pondered her ridiculous, condescending response and those of the other council members that this issue was not in their purview. Hmmm ... vehicle law ... No Stopping Any Time. Is that a federal matter? I thought vehicle law was handed by the Sheriffs Department.
So I wrote and then called Capt. Anthony LeBarge of the Santa Clarita Sheriffs station and asked him to please instruct his traffic officers to look into this problem of vehicles stopping along San Fernando Road and Sierra Highway. He assured me he would do so. Now we are almost in December and nothing has changed. Men still stand along San Fernando Road and Sierra Highway in Newhall, and vehicles still stop under No Stopping Any Time signs and transact business.
I have witnessed public urination, trash and debris accumulation where these men congregate, and lots and lots of noise, none of it in English. All of this I am delivering to you with the hope you will become equally fed up and demand our city go on record as:
1) Opposing the practice of allowing employers to pick up day laborers in Santa Clarita.
2) Asking the Sheriffs Department to enforce vehicle law (or take down the No Stopping Any Time signs).
3) Ask the city to contact the federal agency ICE (Homeland Security) and ask them to do their job, verify the immigration status of these individuals and, when appropriate, deport them.
4) Assess big fines and penalties on those employers who hire illegals.
So I am asking you, Santa Clarita, to make some noise on this one. If you agree with anything I have said, write, e-mail, or call the council members who serve at your pleasure. There is an upcoming election; you can make some positive changes.
I look forward to your comments.

George Bush gets an F on handling our borders while he pretends to “fight a war on terrorism” in our own country.
Aside from everything else, these are the jobs our teenagers used to do—mowing lawns, cleaning up yards, maybe a little construction work, odd jobs.
This is one reason why so many teenagers have lost the work ethic. Work in some parts of the country is almost impossible for them to find.
Huckabee would tell him America is a better country than that!
Me? I agree with the writer...

On a weekend Santa Clarita is about 10 minutes North of the San Fernando Valley. During rush hour it is stop and go and takes much longer. These people left the San Fernando Valley so their kids could go to a decent school when the Spanish speaking people started moving in.
Santa Clarita is a beautiful city, well laid-out, clean and friendly. A nice place to live, if you dont have far to drive to work.
You cant keep moving to get away from Illegal Aliens. Sooner or later you have to stand up and fight. This goes for the whole country. Los Angeles is lost, we will never have a mayor again that does not speak Spanish and offer a refuge to illegal aliens.
I would vote for a Hispanic that promised to enforce our immigration laws, but judging by the many Hispanics I know, very few would ever vote for someone that was not Hispanic. This is an invasion and they are headed your way.
Duncan, Tancredo or Fred, certainly no Hucks or Rudys.
Most are caught and released!
Santa Clarita will too be lost, if nothing is done
In fact, all of California will be lost!

Ditto. Coming soon to your neighborhood if the 3rd World has not already arrived, and by design, not accident IMO.

He does mine also and I’ve felt this way for some time. Even my liberal pals have expressed concern about the Third Worlders who seem to be everywhere in North Texas (DFW). Yet they fail to see the connect between this and their voting habits.
Oh, they’ll wake up one day. But by then I fear it will be too late if it isn’t already.
"Many of these newly arrived illegal aliens disrespect America by using its social services without the thought of paying for anything, and shame on us for offering it."
I have often wondered why we keep giving out 'freebies' to these invaders. Sure - I can understand helping out those who come here legally.
Why don't we implore our lawmakers to change the law requiring us to feed, educate, medicate everybody in this country - no matter how they came in?
Let's make it our final demand of those whose salaries we currently pay - before we vote them out of office.
El Presidente Bush:
Why do you insist on letting Mexico bring their corrupt, socialist, crime-ridden and disgusting culture across the border to poison our country?
I realize that your biggest donors are corporations that benefit from cheap labor. But could you consider how the Mexican culture is destroying the USA? Even Mexican immigrants hate Mexico, but they want to steal our wealth and give it to those who didn’t build it.
They have lotteries.
They have a small or declining middle class.
The value of their money is declining.
Government is the largest employer.
Bribery of government employees is widespread.
Boy does this writer ever nail it!
Gee, imagine that. They have ethnic bonds....kinda like being part of...a nation!
Whoda thunk.
But never call it racism.
Only one group of people can ever be that, you know.
Chinese historians in the next century will declare the 1960s to be the decade where America began its slide into Third World status and decay.
I’m in Cahleeforneeya and I see the same thing. Heres my standard post. We can do something about Illegal immigration.
RICO Citizen Recourse
Private persons and entities may initiate civil suits to obtain injunctions and treble damages against enterprises that conspire to or actually violate federal alien smuggling, harboring, or document fraud statutes, under the Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO). The pattern of racketeering activity is defined as commission of two or more of the listed crimes. A RICO enterprise can be any individual legal entity, or a group of individuals who are not a legal entity but are associated in fact, and can include nonprofit associations.
Heres what Ive been pushing: its time to file Racketeering, Influencing, and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) lawsuits.
RICO lawyers could turn it around in a few years and MAKE MONEY at the same time. Im surprised they havent done it already.
In the absence of enforcement, we can get the word out in the meantime that there is money to be made in filing RICO lawsuits against employers who hire illegal aliens.
Employers would have no trouble shutting down the border if they could get sued by someone under the RICO statutes for hiring these people in the first place. The next time an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or somesuch thing, Im going to point out that the victims family might be able to seek compensation from the employer under these statutes in the hopes that it would catch on. If this did catch on, would see such a swift backlash against illegal immigration that no employer would go near these people and theyll all simply want to go back home.
IRS Reporting
REWARD FOR REPORTING EMPLOYERS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS
CALL THE IRS HOTLINE 1-800-829-0433 YOU MAY BE ENTITLED TO A REWARD
Call the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) hotline 1-800-829-0433 to report all
suspected employers of illegal aliens-you are not required to identify
yourself and may be entitled to a reward. The Application for Reward ( Form 211 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f211.pdf)
can be downloaded from http://www.irs. gov or call 1-800-829-3676. The IRS does
not take kindly to employers that seek to evade taxes by paying cash for day
labor-this is a common practice at construction sites. Report the employer`s
license plate number and any other information you may have. Employers usually
cant run and take the hit in their wallets. Follow up with the IRS and ask
what action is being taken; if they refuse to cooperate, notify the press and
your elected officials. Do your part-spread the word-help make this
nationwide campaign a success!!!

Hunters criticism of Thompson over this issue is well aimed. We need someone in the white house who isnt a johnny-come-lately on this issue.
