How much oil do we get from mexico?Ahhhh.
The old Saudi "You gotta be nice to us no matter what" argument?
There is a limit to that, without any doubt whatsoever.

US exported about 135 Billion of goods to Mexico in last 12 months. Imported about 155 Billion. An all-out “close the borders” trade war, which some seem to be advocating, would hurt them worse than us, but the Americans who make that 135 billion of goods sure wouldn’t be happy.
To: monkeycard
Oh no, then who will do all the crimes Americans wont do?

How about we counter that by BLOCK any money transfers to Mexico from all these illegals sending money home to relatives... Ouch. That would really hurt, considering that their economy is heavily dependent on remittances from Mexicans in the United States.

I believe the standard answer to that is 40%. However, they're only one of a half dozen countries that claim to supply 40% of our oil. According to this table, of the top 15 exporters to the US, Mexico supplies 12.3% for Sept 2007.
Canada 21.3%
Saudi Arabia 13.5%
Venezuela 11.4%
Nigeria 10.2%.
US Oil Imports
Mexico is just a tad short of 40%...

Yes, but they are used by American truckers, rail and air carriers. Until Mexican truck drivers and truck companies follow the same rules, they can stay out. You don't see Canadian truck drivers following their own rules, in fact they aren't even allowed to pick up loads and deliver them within the states at all. They are allowed one load into the USA and one load back to Canada. They have to follow all our regulations (10 hours on, 10 hours off for example) and face stiff fines for violating them.
I'm sure they would really appreciate Mexican drivers stealing their loads back into Canada, not having to follow all the rules and regulations, licencing fee's etc. while they run empty back to Canada.
To: Publius6961
I’m happy to see Canada at the top of that list.

Why does absurd propaganda like this get posted?I posted it because I think the public (and FReepers) should be aware of what our politicians are doing (and saying). Some will write letters, some will send faxes, some will call. But who knows? Maybe, just maybe - one of us could make a difference.

“SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS” This is a sound of the brake airline with a big hole in it.
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERK!” This is the sound of a truck brakes locking up after losing air pressure. (Assuming all 10 brake pads are adjusted at the same distances from the drum.)
“BOOOM! Plop plop plop plop.......KABOOM!” This sound is a steering wheel blowing up cause the Mexican company put cheap retreads on the front wheels, then the driver lost steering control.
“zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz” Heres a sleepy Mexican at the wheel.

How about we counter that by BLOCK any money transfers to Mexico from all these illegals sending money home to relatives? If we don't 'block' money transfers, why can't we MAJOR tax all monies being wired?
