Awhile back, I saw a fellow planting a tree to offset the effects of carbon dioxide emissions. What I couldn't figure out was how moving a tree from one hole to a different hole would have any effect on global warming.
I decided to try this myself. After working all day moving a tree, I placed my thermometer next to the hole from which the tree came out, and took measurements. Next, I measured the temperature next to the hole with the tree in it. Believe it or not, the second hole showed cooler temperatures by approximately 10 degrees.
I have to admit, though, that there were a few kinks with this experiment. One, it seems to work only during the day, and the tree died before I could conduct a comprehensive study of this phenomenon.
I am not discouraged, though. For my next scientific study, I am planning on running my air conditioner and leaving the windows and doors open so I can see how long it will take to cool off the entire neighborhood. Maybe by next summer, my government grant will be approved, and I'll have enough funds to cool off the entire city.
Wish me luck. And to all those global warming skeptics out there who think it's based on junk science, I say: Ha!
Good question!
Jeeshe! Do I have to explain everything?
/bad bad bad.
Obviously Gary does not have his mind right. There is a very, very simple answer. It has an effect on global warming because AlGore says it does.
Now that’s just too funny.
That paints an interesting scene in one's mind .
I have always thought there is great 'elegance in simplicity' (a computer programmer's ideal) and this one is dead on.
It really debunks Algore's new money-making scheme, selling carbon credits and moving trees to new holes.
I hope he re-planted it correctly and it didn’t die. Then he’d be guilty of stunting the photosynthesis process.
“I am planning on running my air conditioner and leaving the windows and doors open”
I have an even better idea - and it has been proven to work by Mothers all over the world, yes even your Mother.
Everyone on the planet at the same time needs to open their refrigerator door at the same time, and leave them open until the Earths Temperature returns to normal. What has your Mom told you countless times?........................Thats right, Close the refrigerator door, your letting the cold air out.
OK, so lets all give it a try, and remember this next Mothers Day to include a thank you on her card for saving the planet.

So the larger the vehicle you drive, the more shade it creates and the cooler the planet will be. Al Gore must have already figured this out because I saw seven SUVs parked around his house in one of the pictures posted awhile back. I'm going to trade my car in for an SUV so I can help global warming.
Not only that but large vehicle cause larger breezes, which as we all know cools things off.
This was a greatest “throw their stupidity right back at ‘em” things I have seen.
Wish we had some way to thank this guy!
My Nissan Titan Crew cab makes a marvelous wind break in front of the house. Probably saves us .05% on our heating costs.
And, I feel so much better by making the contribution to The Planet.
hardihar. Open the refrigerator door. hardihar.
Can I reuse the same tree.
I have a post hole digger and plenty of space. If I plant the same tree in a hundred holes, will the effect be 100 times greater than just planting the tree once?
Even better, can I feel the moral superiority of planting 100 trees.
Unfortunately, for every guy like this, there seems to be four or five tools like the one who wrote this letter in our paper today:
A global warming riddle for you

How many irresponsible people does it take to cause a global warming? Let me count:
1. As many people that turn on all those unnecessary lights and TVs in stores instead of having sample ones on so customers can try them. The heat and energy is causing our planet to warm up.
2. Trucks that dump tons of cans in the dump yard never used from factories. One truckload is equivalent to what I recycled in 20 years.
3. All these companies building big buildings, cutting all these trees, just to knock the building down in a few years to build another one the same size.
4. All these planes burning all that jet fuel.
We're killing ourselves and the world with our ignorance and greed. We don't have to worry about another world power; we are committing suicide.
Never mind worrying about a nuclear bomb. We set our own bomb off. The cancer, lung disease, heart problems, birth defects, etc., thank the big companies for that. I say stop gouging the little guy on their smog certificates and charging for gas caps that aren't on tight enough and start fining and putting restrictions on the big companies.

Not that I doubt this statement, but could you reference a source. If true, this is a heckuva retort to the enviro-wackos who constantly scoff when an SUV drives by.

That's why Al Gore flys around in that private jet all the time. Those jets only make a small shadow when they are on the ground but get them up to 30,000 feet, and their shadow is massive .. blocking the Sun for miles and miles. The more Al flys around, the more 'negative' his carbon footprint is.
(BTW. Don't try this at home. It only works for Al and Hollywood celebs.)
I have a feeling that this could be true if the SUV were idling is some bus garage or driving by the Clairton Coke Works, but there is an real-world environmental example of this.
In modern wastewater treatment plants, the 'effluent', under normal operating conditions, is 'cleaner' than the influent of the upstream fresh water intakes where the water was first introduced into the system.
What that means is on most days, you would be safer taking a drink of water coming out of the back end of a s**t plant than you would taking it from some 'pristine' mountain stream where the bears and beaves and fish do their thing. ;~))
