I'm sure that will change should a dimocrap attain the presidency in '09.

Doubt a demorat would do more for them than the huckster. But wait the demorats would give some lip service about them having unions and being paid above the chamber of commerce slave labor wage.

“”I always thought Numbers USA was just against illegal aliens!”

Well I know the Numbers USA website pretty well. They aren’t thrilled about expanding and often support limiting work visas. Since they are opposed to illegal immigration and aren’t for expanding legal immigration, that pretty much qualifies them as immigration restrictionists. At best they should be called immigration statists.

“At best they should be called immigration statists”

At best they should be called status quo immigration proponents. I gave statist a meaning it does not have.

1. Lots of South Americans (Ecuadorians and Peruvians especially) in Spain, Italy, and, to a lesser extent, France, due to the strong Euro and construction industry in said countries.

2. When I was in Madrid last week, I actually ran into an Evangelical Christian group comprised almost entirely of Mexicans. Mexicans are not as prevelent in Spain, or the rest of Europe, as other Latin American groups, so I thought this was an interesting development.

So might the price of tea in china. The point is that enforcement works as part of our immigration policy. Driving down the price of the dollar isn’t part of our immigration policy, so why would you mention it other than to just piss onto a thread.

Construction has all but died in Florida, AZ, and much of California. Would say the same about here in the NE, but we don't exactly have alot of land to build on in the first place.

On the other hand, the cheap dollar has done wonders for the likes of John Deere, Caterpillar, and Boeing, so if you are in heavy equipment manufacturing (much of which is located in the midwest), these are good times.

...showed a 30 percent drop from the third quarter of 2005 in the number of people planning to work abroad or to cross the border.

That's probably because there's not that many people left. Most of them are already here.

Um - did you read the article?

I was at WalMart tonight and saw a wealthy-looking hispanic couple getting out of an expensive SUV with huge graphics on the side in Spanish, offering “Immigration ID”, “Welfare Assistance”, “Money Transfers” to a number of Latin American nations (with flags), etc. Really made me burn to see these two making a mint off of illegal immigration and milking the system of we, the American Chumps.

Hahahahahahahaha!!! Let’s have this survey again in about 4 months. BTW, I thought all illegals were so terrified of ICE that they were all hiding underground, so how is it they poked their heads out to be surveyed...

“Would-be immigrants may be staying home in significant numbers, a Mexican government survey says, “

Well they stole 250,000 construction jobs from Americans(many of them veterans) and construction is dead.....that would account for alot of the hesitant.

The article was about Mexicans not coming here because they don’t feel welcome or they have less of a chance of getting a job. Yeah I read the story. You read it and decided to toss in the falling dollar. Thats called muddying the waters. Its a tactic used by those who oppose a position(or those who just like to piss on a thread). Go ahead. Are you pro illegal immigration or do you just like to piss on a thread?

the dollar is worth 50% less - might have something to do with it,

Against the Euro yes-in the last 5 years-but not against the Peso. In fact the $ is up vs the Peso in the rolling 52 (albeit barely). 5 years ago the $ was worth 10.5 pesos. Today it's worth 10.9 pesos. Too many on FR think the Euro is all currencies. The $ is only down about 5% vs the Yen since 5 years ago for example and around 6.2% vs the Yuan. To me this is signs that the Euro is far too overvalued more than the $ is falling.

Congress' failure to enact comprehensive immigration legislation this summer prompted many U.S. cities and a handful of states to take matters into their own hands. Some have passed ordinances stiffening requirements on housing, employment and state contracting.

This snippet really frosted me. So it was all the fault of us gringos refusing to enact comprehensive immigration reform and has nothing to do with THE ABJECT FAILURE OF OUR OPEN BORDERS OVERLORDS TO ENFORCE THE DAMNED LAWS ALREADY ON OUR BOOKS?

I don’t put a whole lot of stock in these numbers but I do hope that they are partially correct or at least in the ballpark and also hope the trend catches on. But if they catch on too well I also suspect that Bush will again throw up roadblocks to enforcement.
