Members of a small Kansas congregation known for its anti-gay message say they plan to demonstrate during a memorial service Friday for a Bremerton soldier killed in Afghanistan.
That comes following passage of a state law in January, which requires protestors to remain 500 feet or more from funeral processions, the grave site and the funeral home or building where a funeral service is taking place. The law was passed in response to protests at soldiers' funerals.
The funeral is for Sgt. 1st Class Johnny C. Walls, a 1985 Bremerton High graduate who died Nov. 2 of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small-arms fire. His mother, stepfather, sister and a pair of grandparents live in Port Orchard.
Church officials contacted the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office to tell it that five to 10 members would be picketing at the busy intersection of Bethel Road and Lund Avenue, Wilson said. The group also lists the demonstration on its Web site.
The intersection the group indicated is a couple of miles away from Christian Life Center, where the 2 p.m. service will take place. The church's address is 1780 SE Lincoln Ave.

These eejits just took an $11M beat-down for one of their other previous protests.....

If they arrive in a car, it should be confiscated and auctioned off to the people in the crowd.
I’ll be there with you in spirit.
“Members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka have gained notoriety by demonstrating at military funerals across the country, claiming God is killing troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to punish the United States for tolerating homosexuality.”.....Too much lead in the Topeka water supply perhaps?
If these people want to protest, they should protest the government officials based on the policies they support. To denegrate the funeral services of service members is an unChristian thing to do.
I don’t believe our God would approve of people denegrating the funeral services of men who sacrificed their life to rescue others. As I recall, there was a very well known person who left His home to give up His life to rescue others.
These troops are in the theater of war. They are trying to establish peace. And if the adversaries would lay down their guns and live in peace, the war would be over and our troops could come home.
It is not our troops fault that people keep lining up to confront them and die.
Give ‘em Hell, all who attend.
I keep waiting for some enterprising Marine who lost his buddy in Iraq to go off and give that jerk Phelps what he deserves.
Nice. You think they’d learn.
Yeah, and it may as well have been a billion. They'll never pay out one thin dime.
PGR Ping.

Say WA? Evergreen State ping
FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this ping list.
Ping sionnsar if you see a Washington state related thread.
I will be there for this one!!
See you around 12:30.
How low can this church sink?
“The crowd should just go over and beat the hell out of them.”
I think that’s what they want you to do. Most of the adults in the “congregation” are lawyers.
To hell eventually.
Unfortunately, I can’t make this one, but I’d rather bring my .308 than a camera.
True enough : )
They cannot go on provoking people forever. Someday, someplace, someone that cannot quite so ably restrain their anger will respond.
‘Bout the whole “congregation” are blood relatives of Fred Phelps. Could be genetic.
Hon, this is not a real church. This is Fred Phelps. He and his trog followers are apparently unmodifiable by faith, reason, or decency.
Prayers for the soldier’s family and God Bless the PGR. Rest In Peace, Sgt. Walls. Bravo FReepers who will stand in opposition to those eediots.
Roger THAT. As a benefit, the .308 would let you get out beyond where you'd have to listen to 'em. But, then, using a camera you don't have to account for drop and windage.
Yeah, that's quite a quandry, there.
Maybe a .308 with a sight-mounted camera?
Maybe a camera-directed .308?
Maybe a Supermarine Spitfire with wing-mounted .308's?? Or were those .303 Brownings; I don't recall, at the moment. Anyway, you've got to know that the howl of that Rolls-Royce Merlin would add a nice touch to the proceedings. On the downside, though... Have you ever had to patch a few acres of manicured lawn after a strafing run?? Egad!
So, maybe the best thing, at this point, would be having 308 hard-bitten, no-nonsense (pronounced "bee ess") bikers answer the call to action, here.
I wish I were close enought to attend the counter-protest. Please know that my family will be there in spirit.
Why do these people have to stand on my last nerve?
Thanks Star.....(not to worry)
:)
roger that cus i think that they have not a brain in their ignorant head? sorry to blunt?
perfectly blunt to me.
I had pretty much written them off as a bonified religion. They don’t seem to have the smarts to have actually joined a real religion. It’s probably a tax dodge more than anything else.
Nah, give it to the fire department to practice extrication
I am not sure if I can get there...I am covering for a couple of folks on vacation at work.
But I passed this message onto my lists.
When they came to Radcliff, Kentucky a few months ago, the windows on their cars were mysteriously spraypainted a lovely shade of black. ;-)
“When they came to Radcliff, Kentucky a few months ago, the windows on their cars were mysteriously spraypainted a lovely shade of black. ;-)”
Haha!
I bet the police got a good laugh out of that
By the time my dad and I got there, the only folks left were the Patriot Guard Riders and other supporters of the family.
I’m in Tacoma. I’d go, maybe I should.
But honestly, would find it so darn aggravating, that I’d most likely want to punch them in the face. I’d probably make a big ugly scene out of it.
Nice to see the paper announce this, I’d assume that the support would be quite a bit. Bremerton is a huge navy town, and I think they have Marines there too?
At least ping me afterwards, with pics, and the story.
I believe it.
They tried to do a funeral protest down here and they were told by the local PD, Sheriff’s Department, and State Police that IF they protested, their safety could not be guaranteed.
Catching the hint the kooks never showed up.
And another thing about these kooks is they don’t just protest military funerals. They protest funerals for police officers and fire fighters too.
That is what most of us would like to do but doing so is playing right into their hands.
The best thing to do is give the idiots as little attention as possible.
I wish the darn news would quit publicizing their protests.
There was a really bad house fire in Bardstown about a year ago that almost wiped out a family (I think it was 9-11 people, mostly kids, who were asleep at the time). The wackos announced that they were going to protest and a local radio station got in touch with them and arranged to let them rank on the air for an hour if they promised not to protest, thereby sparing the surviving family members from seeing them.
“The Westboro Church, led by the Rev. Fred Phelps, is not affiliated with the mainstream Baptist church. It consists almost entirely of 70 of Phelps’ relatives.”
Kudos and thank you to reporter Ed Friedrich for the first reporting of this fact that I’ve ever noted in an objective MSM article. He did the research and reported pertinent deta. Freakin amazin!
Of course this probably sinks his career in media ...
Here’s my blog post, pics and videos are linked at the bottom - http://www.libertynews.org/2007/11/30/harass-a-soldiers-grieving-families/
Turnout was excellent, at least 300 by my account.
Good for you. I read your post, can’t believe the police would surround, protect, support the bad guys. You know they’d never do that for us, anywhere. Imagine FR with police escort/protection, where has that happened?
Thank you, and to all others. Me, especailly after the flag in the dirt, would have been in a butt kicking mode.
Sure hope the family of the fallen, felt supported by the community, and the country. How heartbreaking to lose your son, then to know that some sick bunch of monsters are going to protest his funeral? What hot spot in hell is reserved for people like that?
Please, you did great, start a new thread, post some of the pictures.
Check out the update. In our f’d up state, they were protected and surrounded by the cops. If it was the other way around, you think the police would protect us?
The police were right next to them, like personal body guards.
They should have just let them take the verbal, physical assualt, thrown tomoatoes etc...
Disgusting filth.
Righteous. But I sure as Hell hope the Engineer remembered to back the transmitter down to 5 Watts when the reprobates got into the studio. Just because the station let ‘em in, doesn’t mean they needed to let ‘em run it at full throttle.
Thank you so much for being there!
BTTT AWESOME After Report, Liberty News! What a great job these WA FReepers did, along with the Patriot Guard and other citizens. Thank you for posting this!
They're not a church, they're more like a racketeering organization.
