Back to the Brink In the Balkans
Washington Post ^ | November 25,2007 | Richard Holbrooke

At a most inopportune time, the Balkans are back. On Dec. 10, the U.S.-E.U.-Russian negotiating team tasked with getting the Serbs and Albanians to agree on Kosovo's future status will report to the United Nations that it has failed. A few weeks later Kosovo's government will proclaim that Kosovo is an independent nation -- a long overdue event.

The United States and most of the European Union (led by Britain, France and Germany) will recognize Kosovo quickly. Russia and its allies will not. Kosovo's eight-year run as the biggest-ever U.N. project will end with great tension and a threat of violence that could spread to Bosnia. Because security in Kosovo is NATO's responsibility, there is an urgent need to beef up the NATO presence before this diplomatic train wreck. Just the thought of sending additional American troops into the region must horrify the Bush administration. Yet its hesitations and neglect helped create this dilemma -- which Russia has exploited.

Come on Dodik. Do it. If the shiptars can why cant you?

Cant believe that idiot is trying to make a foreign policy success out of Kosovo. He should be hanging his head in shame. Hubris was always something Holbrooke had lots of.

Send in the Serbian Army.

Kill the muslim terrorists.

Let Serbia run Serbia (and Kosovo is part of Serbia)

Remove American troops - they are needed elsewhere...

The really bad decision was going into this mess in the first place. Holbrooke wants us to involve ourselves more deeply, I want us out.

He is trying to trumpet one of the biggest US foreign policy disasters as a success to the sheeple. God help us when he is Secretary of State for Hillary Clinton.

I would prefer to see the Russians in control of the Balkans than the EU or the US.

The mooselimbs should be driven from Kosovo. The Clinton policy there was wrong and was a disaster...

You’ve been here long enough to know better than to get around auto-exerpting by posting the rest of the column as a response. Don’t do that again.

Check me if I am wrong, but didn’t Kosovo recently hold elections that will install a Mafia Styled Thug who’s into prostitution and drugs as it’s leader?

"the road seemed open...But the new Bush team hated anything it had inherited from Bill Clinton -- perhaps especially his greatest successes...
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld even sought to pull American troops out of the NATO command in Kosovo, which Secretary of State Colin Powell prevented...
(But Rumsfeld turned)NATO command in Bosnia over to a weak E.U. Force, a terrible mistake."

Summed up:
Clinton, brilliant statesman.
Powell, brilliant statesman.
Rumsfeld, evil conspirator against a (muslim) peaceful balkans (and Bill Clinton)
Bush, his fault.

Holbrooke, simpering piece of clinton trash. Did I mention he must be on drugs?

"But the new Bush team hated anything it had inherited from Bill Clinton -- even (perhaps especially) his greatest successes -- and made no effort to advance policy in Kosovo until 2005 and ignored Bosnia."

Bush didn't "hate it" enough to change course as he should have!

The problem here is not in a lack of follow thorough by Bush, but in the biggest Balkan policy blunder in the last 100 years by Clinton. Problem is that Bush didn't scrap it and start over when he could and should have.

Now NATO has disgraced itself, the EU is only caving to US pressure and will ultimately turn around and blame us when the Balkans goes wrong again (and make no mistake, it WILL go wrong), Russia is using this as reason to face us down --and for once, Russia is standing on solid ground on this because they are right about this and we are dead wrong.

Why in the hell is the US fighting so hard to steal a piece of land that we intend on giving away to people who are not even our friends?

The New World Order operative and slimy rat Holbrooke cares about the fate of muslims in Republika Srpska, but not Serbian Christians in Kosovo. How typical!!!!

And—according to Newsweek, Holbrooke is the “enforcer” on the Hillary clinton campaign!!

I was unfortunate enough to see my first TV add for Hillary Rodham Izetbegovic Khomeini this past weekend, with my Thanksgiving feast not fully digested. I can’t stand the sight of that horrific witch!! I was yelling all sorts of names—all diserved—at the TV screen, including “evil monster” and “witch”.

Fortunately, I was in the right crowd, and my companions were cheering me on. But I—and many others—are going to have a tough time as the campaign season grinds on and on. And we’re ALL going to have a tough time if that evil NWO harpy becomes President!

As for what I think should happen with Kosovo and Srpska, see my tagline. Pray hard for the Serbian Orthodox Christians in the homeland!!!!

What an innovative solution! I'm sure the Bulgarians and the Greeks can't wait to give up their EU and NATO membership and submit under the Russian boot. The Turks, the Croats, and the Albanians should be wild about the idea too.

Stop writing and just act by getting involved. Just spewing here is a waste of time with all due respect to the freepers, but it is.

It would serve you better if you call and write your congressional leaders. I also urge Free Republic folks to help in this matter.

I have said what I have had to say in this matter here in FR. James Jatras is a good friend who will be able to help greatly in this matter.

Kurti: Bush lies to Kosovo Albanians

27 November 2007 | 14:54 | Source: B92, Tanjug

VIENNA -- The leader of a radical Albanian movement in Kosovo says Hashim Thaci "will not declare independence after Dec. 10".

Albin Kurti, who is heading the Self-Determination Movement also said that U.S. President George Bush "was telling Kosovo Albanians lies."

“Thaci will not hurry that much. Our leadership will not declare independence as long as the international powers do not accept that. And George Bush has lied to the U.S. public so why wouldn't he lie to us,” Kurti said in an interview with the Vienna Die Presse daily.

Kurti is currently under house arrest in Priština after organizing a demostration there in February which left two people dead.

He said that, in his view, the real situation regarding Kosovo was deadlocked, and that there was "a long way to go towards independence."

“Even if the European Union replaces the United Nations, Kosovo would still be controlled by international powers. However, what we need is a true state, with a seat at the United Nations. We want Kosovo to join the EU, and not EU rule over Kosovo,” Kurti said.

I’ll ping our resident supply of Jihadist supporters to see if any of them would be willing to state their true opinions about our Clinton folly in the Balkans.
