‘Israel's best friend’ firmly backing Arabs at Annapolis conference
Jewish World Review ^ | November 23, 2007 | Caroline B. Glick

The mood is dark in the IDF's General Staff ahead of next week's "peace" conference in Annapolis. As one senior officer directly involved in the negotiations with the Palestinians and the Americans said, "As bad as it might look from the outside, the truth is ten times worse. This is a nightmare. The Americans have never been so hostile."

With the Executive Branch in charge of Foreign Policy and the Bush Administration's recent history of ignoring the will of the American People, I'm not sure what can be done to support the Nation of Israel.

All we can do is pray. Pray this charge will not be laid upon the supporters of Israel.

I share the pessimism on the US policy in the Israel-Palestine issue, but As one senior officer directly involved in the negotiations with the Palestinians and the Americans said is just another unnamed "source". Don't buy it yet.

I wouldn’t put too much credit on an anonymous source.

During his first term, most people thought of Bush as Israel’s best friend in the White House for a long time. The State Department has always been full of Arabists, but the administration was basically friendly.

The problems started when Sharon went bananas, and got worse when he had his stroke and left the government to Peretz.

How can the US defend Israel if the Israeli government is unwilling to defend Israel?

I’m hoping this situation will improve, but it looks as if it needs prayers and divine intervention at this point. Peretz is already threatening to throw more settlers off their land, and it’s NOT because the US is pressuring him. Quite the reverse.

Peretz WAS defense minister. He’s gone now - Barak is DM and Olmert has been PM since Sharon took ill.

This conference will only lead to conflict. All I can think is, either Bush is a dope, or he’s TRYING to trigger Syrian and/or Iranian overt intervention so we can use it as a cassus belli. I don’t think he’s that smart, but there’s a good chance of it ending up that way down the line.

As we become more successful in Iraq, Israel’s days will be numbered. Explanation is geo political. If Iraq becomes stable and becomes the US base in the Middle East, it cames with a domestic political price, the American people do not want another war unless it is absolutely necessary. Iran has become the new threat to US interests in the ME, and Saudi Arabia/Gulf State seening that the Americans cannot be driven out of Iraq by a Sunni insurgency has accepted this reality and also recognize the rising threat of Iran. Her new strategy is contain Iran since the US is in no shape to declare war against Iran and have the US presence in Iraq form the left flank of a anti Iranian crescent shaped coalition. I think war weary US will welcome this coalition to contain Iran, but it may come with a policy price - stop supporting Israel. This is not the first time the US has abandoned old allies. Remember after Vietnam War, the US was war weary while the Soviets invaded Afghanistan and used Cuban proxies in southern Africa. Nixon had to go to Communist China, and form an alliance to contain the Soviet Union, which culminated with Carter abandoning the Republic of China (Taiwan) and recognizing the Communist mainland as the real China. Land size, population size and resources became part of the decision making equation - do you contain the Soviets with a boulder or a pebble???? Same problem is looming with Iran, since the US domesticly is not willing to fight any more wars, do you contain Iran with a Sunni coalition boulder or with a pebble size Israel??? Don’t need a degree from Yale or Havard to make such a choice.

If this story is true it doesn’t surprise me in the least. Bush’s policy vis a vis the Palistinians is so schizoid, inconsistent and dissonant that this story was actually predictable.

We give money and weapons to the Pali’s. That about says it all.

I'm not sure what can be done to support the Nation of Israel.

First, save America. Bankrupt the Federal government. Start bartering. Work for unreported cash. Demand handouts. Take everything you can get. That's what the Marxists, the dedicated bureaucrats, and Bush's New World Order corporations subsisting on federal programs do. Play their game but with more vigor.

I am honestly looking for a global peacemaker to step up and offer 7 years of peace to Israel...

Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to buckle your seatbelts, read your Bible, and pray HARD!

I oppose the Annapolis conference as a replay of Munich and I am against the President and his Administration for proceeding with it. They're sadly mistaken if they can count on my support to sell out Israel.

Yes, I think of Olmert, Peretz, and Barak as the evil troika. All three only overlapped for a while, but they are birds of a feather.

But it started with Sharon. He was once a hero, but I wonder if he had some kind of minor stroke before his big one. Some legacy.

You raise some valid and good points in your comment, but, sorry, the first line: As we become more successful in Iraq, Israel’s days will be numbered, is total unadultered bull dropping.

stabilizing Iraq is in Israels best interest. With a safer Iraq, Iran gets weakened and our overall forces and ressources will be free to counter Iran more decisivly. Syria and Iran NEED chaos in Iraq to distract us from subdueing them.

Most Americans Support Right of Jews to Live and Build in Judea-Samaria
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/927783/posts
June 10, 2003
"By a margin of nearly five to one, Americans oppose the Bush administration's demand to halt all further Jewish construction in Judea-Samaria (the West Bank) and Gaza . . . The poll, carried out by John McLaughlin & Associates, surveyed a scientific sample of 1,000 American adults on May 21, 2003.

If Duncan Hunter isn't our next president, we should prepare for rule by Hillary. She's only after the "good ol' boys" in the next round anyway. In feminist-speak, "good ol' boys" are rich importers, merchants and men in positions of governmental authority.

Well maybe living in an area populated by millions who hate you and having no oil and being totally dependent on outside help for arms and financial health finally caught up with Israel

You can’t keep going to war where the enemy is not totally vanquished and is allowed to arm for another day forever

Israel used to have American popular opinion and congress and the MSM solidly in her corner

No More

Ironic thing is that it is the left wing who has turned against the Jews and is now kissing the Muslim tush

The parts about "oil" and "financial health" are an interesting slip of the keyboard on your part. We'll get back to that.

"Israel used to have American popular opinion and congress and the MSM solidly in her corner

American popular opinion is still in favor of Israel. See the evidence in the comment just before yours. Notice that you also mentioned "Congress and the MSM."

No More

"

On your mention of "Congress and the MSM," our import lobby sponsors the media content and contributes as a favorite gang of constituents to both political parties.

It's obvious as to who is really sucking up to the enemy for oil and money.

But the dirty, little secret is that worldwide oil production is near capacity. And the world's favored labor force needs to continue to be equipped and enticed in order to produce most of our goods. China, for one, is building about 1 million more kilometers of roads.

Oil will continue to go higher. The dollar will go down. I'm looking forward to that and the change toward a better American leadership for the future (presidents like Hunter and working conservative men in charge).

Once the Arabs learned to use the OIL weapon and nationalized their oil the tide turned

Remember when France used to be Israel’s big aircraft supplier
well the oil cutoff threat caused that to cease and without a Jewish political influence as they had in the USA it wasn’t going to return

Israel’s popular support in the USA was a lot different when it wasn’t perceived as having military /War consequences and affects on US troops etc

The biggest problem is the MSM . It is now Anti Israel

I am 71 and remember when it was a lot different

No worries ... it’s all window dressing. Nothing is going to come of this conference other than some photo opportunities.
