If the stem cell wars are indeed nearly over, no one will savor the peace more than James A. Thomson.
Dr. Thomsons laboratory at the University of Wisconsin was one of two that in 1998 plucked stem cells from human embryos for the first time, destroying the embryos in the process and touching off a divisive national debate.

“If human embryonic stem cell research does not make you at least a little bit uncomfortable, you have not thought about it enough, he said.”
Apparently, no Democrats ever thought about it enough.

“Divisive national debate” as opposed to WHAT? A harmonic one? Well, debates CAN get pretty loud....sorry, the overuse and gammatized use of the words du jour gets on my nerves. If both sides agree and ARE in harmony, you don’t HAVE a “debate”.

Embryonic stem cells have produced nothing. Zip Zero Nada. Unless you consider monster tumors and other cancer cells a good thing. Embryonic stem cell research is something only the Dr. Frankensteins of the world find useful.

I agree for the most part. This will definitely lead to great advances in disease treatments and so on. Although the end of the tunnel for this type of research could theoretically lead to human near-immortality. Whether or not that is a boon is still undecided.

I doubt it'll end it. It's scientifically proven that adult stem cells work and there are people alove today because of their use...it's scientifically proven that fetal stem cells are downright dangerous, because they can turn into
anything, no matter what they were meant to become in the first place...and did the "debate" end? No, it didn't.
There's a cult out there justifying the murder of their own "embryos" en utero by desperately preaching the need for others to commit the same act, funded by a group of "progressive" Nazi who've been profiting from the murder of unborn children for years. They won't go away quietly.

I don’t get it —how would he end it? Shinya Yamanaka was the first guy to do it —HE ended it, not this guy...

I understand your point. Keep in mind that these scientists are still using embryonic stem cells to compare to the new versions. They have destroyed embryos in order to discover this process and they will likely continue as these new types of stem cells are studied.
I do think it is a positive thing overall, but it is always good to look at the whole picture.

I should have finished reading this when I started. Here's the printer friendly version of the text.
The thread's original link connects to the original titles from the scientists.

They have.
You must understand that the issue is not really about embryonic stem cells,
it’s about the quintessential liberal issue, ABORTION.
Moving away from embryonic stem cell research would imply that their was something ethically questionable about destroying embryos, and we can’t go down THAT path.
Abortion is the quintessential liberal issue:
Liberalism is all about making those who are responsible and make good decisions (innocent) pay for the consequences of those who are irresponsible.
Abortion makes the MOST innocent pay for the frivolous irresponsible self-indulgence of the “mother” with its very life. What could epitomize liberalism any better?

Abortion makes the MOST innocent pay for the frivolous irresponsible self-indulgence of the mother with its very life. What could epitomize liberalism any better?A denial of the right to self defense and buying anthropogenic global warming hook, line and sinker. No one can argue for the unborn if they are already dead.
