This letter to the editor appeared in the Savannah (Ga.) Morning News. The letter is self-explanatory. After you finish reading this there will be no need for any further commentary:
Modified community needs civil rights protections Because of my body modifications, including tattoos and piercings, I consider myself to be a member of the modified community. Due to my modifications, I not only have to deal with the daily routine of turned up noses and annoying questions from those without any body modifications, but I have to fight even harder to get a job than someone without any visible modifications.
So this brings up the question of whether laws should exist to protect modified people against job discrimination.
I believe we as a modified culture should be protected against discrimination just as African Americans, Jews and homosexuals are. During job interviews, we are looked down upon and assumed to be unintelligent. Employers view us as less of an asset to their company than those without body modifications.
If we are lucky enough to be offered the job due to our outstanding qualifications, we are required to remove our piercings and cover our tattoos. I ask, is this fair? Employers cannot ask a Jewish man to remove his Star of David pendant or tell a black woman to make sure her skin is covered because her pigment if offensive to some people.
Why do we as a modified culture have to suffer because of the changes we have committed to; as well as the way we choose to represent and express ourselves?
Being modified should not hinder our ability to get a job, as long as those modifications do not affect our ability to perform the necessary tasks required of that job. I will have the same education, the same skills, and the same passion regardless of modifications.
With any luck, in time, society as a whole will be able to view those of us with modifications the same way as they do anyone else.
So next time you are walking down the street and see someone with tattoos and piercings, think twice before making assumptions and realize that they are just the same as you, just with more decorations.
Or not.
This guy probably relates to Wolverine in the X- men movies. Mutants of the world unite!
Only this: "So next time you are walking down the street and see someone with tattoos and piercings, think twice before making assumptions laugh out loud and realize that they are just the same as you, just with more decorations hilariously stupid."
What a bunch of tattoos and piercings say to a perspective employer is seriously impaired judgment.
Yeah........RIIIIIIIGHT
Perhaps they are being sarcastic. It does show the ridiculousness of protection laws. They do not work, if one doesn’t desire to hire a black, homosexual and women, guess what they won’t.
And, they are in love with themselves.
Modified community. Just wait, there will be a whole movement to “equalize” the modified community. Never mind that their modifications are self inflicted, that they choose to have metal shoved through various parts of their body and have indelible tracings implanted into their skin pores, they are not total idiots, just modified people. How stupid can people be? Pretty damn stupid, I’m thinking.
Please use it frequently but in a totally out of context manner in a series of MODIFIED sentences.
“PROOF OF IDIOTS AMONG US”
Until Liberals and Democraps are wiped out (or, at least, confined to zoos), idiots will wander the earth doing their best to p!ss me off.
How about the uninhibited flatulence community?
What we “unmodified people” see are exhibitionists who have more ego than sense. As a group, these freaks will be chronically unemployed, unless they can charge each other for tattoos and piercings. What employer wants a weirdo representing his company?
Parents could stop this nonsense by refusing to fund these societal dropouts.
To coin a phrase:
“As ye sow, so shall ye reap”
Internal support mechanism. They have to be since no sane individual could.
“So next time you are walking down the street and see someone with tattoos and piercings, think twice before making assumptions and realize that they are just the same as you, just with more decorations.”
They are not like me. They are sheep.
“Look at me with all my tattoos and piercings!!!! I’m an individual!!!! Just like all my friends!!!!”
Just wait till a man looking like a Hells Angel comes to date your 15 y/o daughter. You’ll get on the profiling bandwagon real quick.
There are new scientific studies showing that there is a gene which causes people to get tattoos and non traditional piercings. Getting tattoos and piercings is really not a choice. Scientists say it’s also been linked to the gene for stupidity.
Whenever I see one of these metallicized people, I just assume they’re moonbats, members of the Bush-blew-up-the Twin-Towers crowd.
Seems many iof the euro-types win the prize for these mutilations...
Used to see them getting off the jet at JFK...
Looks like they stumbled into Jimmy Houston's tournament-winning tackle box!
No sh*t, really?
You chose to “modify” your body... you get to deal with the consequences of your actions. I know you’re going to have to go look up the word “consequence” and struggle hard to comprehend this foreign concept, but your actions actually do have consequences.
Your “decorations” make you unique and special, an individual (just like all your little “modified” buddies), so you get to be treated like the retread moon-unit that you are.
And yes, I have official license to make fun of your dumb@$$ because I have a tattoo. Of course, its military and can be hidden by any short-sleeve shirt, so it probably doesn’t count as “decoration” to you.
In fact, you and your “modified” hippie buddies would probably discriminate against *me* and not let me join your jolly little “modified” pirate club. Oh, waaaah... I’m going to go write a letter to the editor of the local bird-cage liner!
My term for this bizarre behavior is “New Primitivism.”
what an idiot.
ok, so i’m quite tattooed and pierced, but its a CHOICE. you CHOSE to get a tattoo/ piercing/ brand/ scarification/ implant you have no right to have you CHOICE protected. if you want the job, like everyone else who has to conform to a dress code, you must as well.
for example, one of my friends would like to get pierced, but does not based on his customers. he deals alot with farmers who spend alot of money in his store, who might choose not to patronise his store if he were to get facial jewelery. smart business choice. he understands that CHOOSING to modify his body may directly effect his business.
you want to do that to yourself, be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions.
I wouldn’t laugh too much folks. Some democrat somewhere will see another voting bloc and propose “modification” to existing victim laws. Nothing’s too absurd anymore in this world gone mad.

"Yes, I'm here to apply for the nanny position."
Were they the same as me, they wouldn’t damage themselves in that particular manner.
I sure wouldn’t hire someone who has chosen to mutilate themselves!!
Since my oldest is one of these ‘modified’ people, she has run into the same kind of prejiduces, however, I tell her it’s a professional world, requiring professional appearance to gain employment. If you believe your piercings/tatoos are inhibiting getting a better job, maybe you should remove the piercings for interviews(the tats are not visible).
“Excuse me, sir, do you have Prince Albert in your pants?”
LOL. I think you must be looking for one of the global warming threads!
The best ‘growth’ field to get into right now is a medical laser technologist. Why? Because a portion of the millions of tattoo out there will be removed someday...either due to fashion, or regret (or aging). Can’t imagine what the tummy tatts look like apres childbirth...but laser technology is definitely a growing field.
From the headline I thought this was going to be about Government!
I don’t understand how any human with that many puncture wounds is still alive and hasn’t succumbed to some major infection.
More decorations? So does that mean I can call them a modified Christmas tree? Or would that be offensive?
I see stupid people. Walking around like regular people. They don’t see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don’t know they’re stupid.
This guy's exchange with his DI went something this:
"What the **** is that on your arm?"
"A tattoo."
"That is one ugly piece of **** tattoo! What the **** kind of tattoo is that?"
"A tribal tattoo."
"TRIBAL? WHAT THE **** TRIBE ARE YOU FROM?!?"
All I’ve had done to myself is had my left earlobe pierced once, when I was 15. I don’t put anything in it now because of work.
I don’t have any tattoos yet, but I most certainly will have at least two. What they will be, I don’t know yet, but they definitely won’t be a ‘tribal’ or some meaningless crap.
They deliberately disfigure themselves for attention so they can whine like 2 yr. olds because people aren’t nice to them.
If they don't interface with the general pubic I agree with the young one that what they look like shouldn't affect their potential as long as they can do the job.
It's sad, but true, that many peope judge a book by it's cover.
Oh great! I’ll have to go to more sensitivity training classes so I can work with these “modified people”.
I HOPE this is meant to be satire ....

...idiots with piercings don't realize that Wyle E uses super magnets to snag victims...they had better stay out of the southwest

oddly enough, there are fewer moonbats in that crowd than you’d think.
heck, some of the biggest “freak” groups i’ve seen are quite conservative. there’s an underground goth club in detroit, that if you talk to almost any of them, they mostly associate themselves as what would be considered “south park republicans.” yet a look at them would send the majority of freepers walk in the other direction.
“With any luck, in time, society as a whole will be able to view those of us with modifications the same way as they do anyone else.”
Well, you see, then you would have to go out and do something even more outrageous because we all know you and your “modified” friends have a pathological need to be seen as rebels or at least different from “normal society”. It’s just that you don’t want to be seen as weird except in a good way for you, not in a way that affects your ability to earn a living.
Tough, life doesn’t work that way. Once you demand people judge you on your appearance, they will do so 24-7.
