A brand new Whit Ayers poll of 600 South Carolina voters — 300 likely Republican presidential primary voters and 300 likely Democratic primary voters — was released Monday. Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain are in a statistical dead heat among Republicans with Fred Thompson in a close fourth. And for Democrats, Hillary Clinton is dusting the field with a 19 point lead over second place Barack Obama.

- Fred Thompson - 13%
- Mike Huckabee - 8%
- Ron Paul - 3%
- Duncan Hunter - 1%
- Tom Tancredo - 0%
- Undecided - 18%
DEMOCRATS:
- Hillary Clinton - 40%
- Barack Obama - 21%
- John Edwards - 13%
- Joe Biden - 3%
- Bill Richardson - 2%
- Dennis Kucinich - 1%
- Chris Dodd - 0%
- Mike Gravel - 0%
- Undecided - 20%

McCain’s polling ahead of Fred eh? Wow the top three candidates are rino’s. I can’t believe that this will stand in SC. Although President Bush is a rino and he turned his first presidential campaign around there so who knows.
To: Reaganesque
20%? Not exactly an overwhelming endorement. Undecided is only two points behind and closing.

Another Romney push-poll, eh?
I'm amazed that ANYONE puts the least bit of credence in these phony exercises in mass brain-washing.
Ignore the polls! Support the candidate who best mirrors your own values.
For me, that's Duncan Hunter.

I’m glad to see Mitt pull ahead. I don’t dislike anyone else running in as much as they underwhelm me. Whoever the nominee is in November will get my support simply because any of these guys is better than any of the potential Democrat nominees, in my opinion. Right now, however, I’m behind Mitt 100%!
I just wish everyone would quit tearing down Mitt and others just to build their guy up...No one is going to agree with any candidate 100% of the time.
Anyway, my two cents, adjusted for inflation -.50 cents worth. :)

5.66% margin of error, eh? With the margin that large, it is actually a four way tie for first place, though it is at the edge of the range of error. I have to hope people are smarter than this.

I can’t think of anyone who works harder than Romney. Maybe some who work equally as hard but NONE harder. In this race, however, NO ONE works harder, or is as well organized. And there is much to be said for both! : )

Excellent! If you add the 18% undecided to Fred Thompson, he is a winner! It is still early in this process and I believe Fred has not kicked in his overdrive as yet. Peak at the precise moment of time and it will carry him to the winner’s circle.

Although President Bush is a rino and he turned his first presidential campaign around there so who knows. Strictly speaking, Bush is not a rino... and the weaknesses that he does have were not well known during the 2000 campaign.
Rudy McRomney, however, certainly all 3 are RINO, and it should be well known to everyone whose head is not buried in the sand.

I thought he was touting that prescription drug program for seniors in 2000? Anyway there are so many polls to look at. I think Romney wins SC if he wins Iowa and NH. But Huckabee is coming on strong in Iowa so who knows. I’d hate to be an odds maker at this point.
To: Reaganesque
He might be leading in this poll...but the morning after the primary, ol’ Willard’s gonna wake up with a headache caused by a hammer named Fred Thompson.

Hi Red.
I will vote for Mitt if he gets the nomination and I’d probably place him a distant second behind Fred in order of preference.
But the guy’s conservative credentials are middling at best...c’mon, Romneycare? What’s that all about?

I see Fred has settled into easy, comfortable fourth place.
Word is, Fred's finally decided to put some effort into Iowa.
Maybe Fred's wife--the leader of his campaign--needs to hire a competent manager to get Fred's campaign out of the ditch and onto its feet.
Fred could still pull it out, but it will take a herculean effort.

The Romney graph is rising and the Fred graph is falling. That’s a surprise. You would think a southerner would do a better job.
Fred HAS to win in SC, because FL will probably be taken by Rudy. If Fred loses SC, he is out of the race.

Why is it wrong when so many people believe it....ie why are so many people in dislike of Romney, when he’s really ‘a good thing’?
I just don’t believe his morph to conservatism. It just seems too many Romney supporters have faith in political figures (e.g Romney), rather than historical reference to their leader. His modern epiphany is just too convient.
